The Management Clipboard lets you assign employees to beds, workstations and supply routes, as well as configure some station settings. Hire a worker, equip the clipboard from inventory slot nine, interact with that worker, then choose the category and target you want to set. Workers also need a bed and wages before they can work.
How to open the Management Clipboard
- Hire an employee. The guides say the Management Clipboard becomes available after your first hire. (PC Gamer; Destructoid)
- Equip the clipboard. Select it in inventory slot nine. The wiki lists 9 as the default keyboard shortcut; bindings may differ in your setup. (Schedule 1 community wiki)
- Interact with the employee. Aim at the worker and use the interaction prompt. The wiki reports E for keyboard interaction, but follow the prompt shown in your game if your controls differ. (Schedule 1 community wiki)
- Choose a category and target. Select the assignment you want to change, then pick an available bed, workstation or other target from the options shown.
Assign a bed and make wages available
Each employee needs an assigned bed, and the guides say wages must be placed in the briefcase at that bed before the worker begins working. To assign one, open the worker’s clipboard options, select the bed category and choose an available bed. (PC Gamer)
PC Gamer reports that beds can be bought from Oscar in the Warehouse for $150. Treat that as a guide-reported price, not a guaranteed current cost; check the in-game listing in your build. (PC Gamer)
Assign a job that matches the employee
Choose a workstation or task target from the employee’s available clipboard categories. Eligible jobs depend on worker type, so use the options shown for that employee rather than assuming every role can use every station. The guides describe these broad roles:

These are broad descriptions from guides and a community wiki, not a guarantee of the exact options in every game build. If a station or task is missing from the clipboard, check the worker’s role and the current in-game menu.
Configure stations, supplies and destinations
The clipboard can also expose settings for a station itself. PC Gamer describes using it on a pot to choose options such as the crop and additives. Employee assignments can specify where supplies come from and where finished items should go. (PC Gamer)
Think of an automated workflow as a chain: supplies are available at a configured shelf, a worker takes them to an assigned station, and the result is left at a configured destination for another worker or station. For example, PC Gamer describes botanists supplying a crop shelf and handlers moving goods onward. (PC Gamer)

For a route to work as intended, make sure its source contains the goods the worker needs to move and its destination is the place you want those goods delivered. The wiki describes handler routes involving docks, storage and packaging; PC Gamer’s examples also show why a destination must fit into the next step of a production chain. If an employee does not start working
- Check the bed assignment: confirm the worker has an available bed selected.
- Check wages: the guides say wages belong in the bed’s briefcase.
- Check role and target: make sure the assigned job appears among that worker’s clipboard options and that the target station is appropriate.
- Check the workflow: verify that supplies are available at the configured source and that the output destination is set correctly.
- Follow current prompts: the cited how-to guides date from 2025, and the community wiki is undated. They do not establish current gamepad controls or confirm that every key binding remains unchanged. Use the prompts in your game if a reported keyboard command does not match your setup.
