The MIG Switch (also called MIG Flash) is a flash cartridge that fits the Nintendo Switch game-card slot and uses a microSD card. Independent documentation says game dumps need signed ROM data and ROM certificates to boot on an unmodified console. Nintendo classifies MIG Switch/MIG Flash as a circumvention device and warns of legal, warranty, online-play, and console-operation risks. Because current manufacturer setup instructions could not be verified, this guide explains what is established without guessing at firmware, formatting, or file-by-file steps.
What the MIG Switch does
ConsoleMods describes the MIG Flash as a cartridge that goes into the Switch game-card slot and reads game data from microSD storage. It also says that game dumps used on an unmodified Switch require signed ROM data and ROM certificates. This does not explain how to obtain or prepare unauthorized game files. Nintendo says use of unauthorized copies is unlawful, and its guidance identifies MIG Switch/MIG Flash among circumvention devices.
What is—and is not—verified about setup
The manufacturer’s downloads page appeared in search results but could not be retrieved, so current step-by-step setup and firmware instructions are not established here. Exact requirements for card formatting, capacity, file names, firmware, and LED behavior may vary by device revision and should not be guessed. At the high level, the documented arrangement is a cartridge in the console’s game-card slot with a microSD card for storage. That description is not a complete setup procedure or assurance that a particular card, file, firmware, or console configuration will work.
Compatibility and microSD storage
ConsoleMods reports compatibility with the regular, Lite, and OLED Switch models, as well as microSDHC and microSDXC support. These are claims from that independent reference and may become outdated; confirm compatibility for the exact cartridge revision against current manufacturer documentation. The reference also says DLC and game updates are online only, which should not be assumed to apply to every revision without current confirmation.

A microSD card is the relevant storage category, but the available information does not establish a recommended brand, capacity, or formatting method. Verify those details in current instructions rather than relying on a generic card recommendation.

Nintendo’s UK legal-information page explicitly names MIG Switch/MIG Flash as a circumvention device. It says using unauthorized copies of Nintendo games is unlawful and warns that unauthorized products that circumvent Nintendo security measures may damage a product, with such damage not covered by Nintendo’s warranty. Nintendo also warns that online play may be unavailable and that a console may stop working after network updates if an unauthorized device has been used. These are Nintendo’s stated warnings; applicable laws and outcomes vary by jurisdiction. Nintendo UK legal information.

Nintendo of America’s June 28, 2024 complaint describes MIG Switch as a device allegedly used to play unauthorized copies and MIG Dumper as a copying device. A complaint records a litigant’s allegations; it is not, by itself, a final judicial finding about every device or user. Nintendo of America complaint.
