How to Use Voice Chat and Comms in Marvel Rivals

By VGSources Team 7 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To use voice chat in Marvel Rivals, open Settings → Audio, enable Voice Chat, choose Open Mic or Push to Talk, and select the correct microphone and headset. During matches, use the voice-chat menu to manage channels and players, or use pings, preset callouts, and text chat when you do not want to speak.

How to turn on voice chat

  1. From the main menu, select the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. Open the Audio tab.
  3. Scroll to Voice Chat.
  4. Enable Voice Chat.
  5. Choose a voice mode:
    • Open Mic: transmits whenever the microphone detects sound.
    • Push to Talk: transmits only while you hold the assigned key or button.
  6. If available on your platform, select the correct Input Device and Output Device.
  7. Adjust Voice Chat Volume and microphone volume.

The route and option names are based on the current menu layout reported for the game. Labels can vary slightly by platform or localization. The latest official patch notes for Version 20260807, released August 7, 2026, do not list a voice-chat UI redesign: Marvel Rivals Version 20260807 patch notes.

Choose Squad or Team voice chat

Marvel Rivals separates voice communication into two scopes:

  • Squad voice chat: your premade group.
  • Team voice chat: the entire team, including matchmaking teammates.

To choose the scope, open Settings → Audio → Basic → In combat voice chat (send/receive), then select Squad or the full team. The exact wording may differ slightly on your platform.

This separation was added in the Season 4 update. NetEase described it as a choice between keeping squad communications private and communicating with the entire team. See the official Season 4 patch notes.

How to use Push to Talk

On PC, configure it through Settings → Keyboard → Communication. On console, use Settings → Controller → Communication. Find the Voice Chat section and bind Push to Talk to a key or button.

The commonly documented PC default is the grave/tilde key:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
`

It is the key immediately to the left of 1 on a standard US keyboard, not the apostrophe key ('). Keyboard layouts can differ, and the binding can be changed, so verify it in the game.

A current PC control reference lists these defaults:

Action Default
Push to Talk `
Voice Chat Menu P
Push-to-Mute Open Mic Alt+`
Switch Voice Channel Alt+1

Use the current control reference as a starting point, but treat the in-game keybind screen as authoritative. An April 2025 update added an on-screen prompt when Push to Talk activates. If that prompt appears while you hold the key, the game is detecting the input: official April 2025 update notes.

Check hero-specific keybinds

Marvel Rivals supports hero-specific control profiles. If a hero has customized controls, changing the global Push to Talk binding may not change the active binding for that hero.

If Push to Talk works on some heroes but not another:

  1. Open Settings → Keyboard → Communication.
  2. Check the global or all-heroes profile.
  3. Check each customized hero profile.
  4. Assign the same Push to Talk key in the relevant profiles, or reset the hero profile to default.

This is a recurring player-reported control-profile problem rather than a documented official limitation.

Open the voice-chat menu

On PC, press P by default to open the Voice Chat Menu during a match. The panel can show participating players and voice status, and lets you manage or mute individual players.

Change the key at Settings → Keyboard → Communication → Voice Chat → Voice Chat Menu.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not confuse these three controls:

  • Voice Chat Menu: opens the participant and channel panel.
  • Push to Talk: transmits your microphone while held.
  • Switch Voice Channel: changes between available voice scopes.

Use pings and the comms wheel

Pings are separate from voice chat, so they work even when nobody is speaking. On PC, the standard Ping Button is the middle mouse button. On console, ping is assigned to a controller direction in the default layout. Both can be changed in the communication controls.

The configurable ping system can provide callouts such as:

  • Attack Here
  • Group Up
  • Ultimate Status
  • Defend Here
  • Retreat
  • Need Help
  • Need Healing
  • Caution Here
  • Greetings
  • Acknowledge
  • Status
  • Thanks

The wheel can use four or eight sections. Look for the Ping Communication options under your keyboard or controller communication settings to assign or customize individual sections.

Use the emote and spray wheel

The emote and spray control is not necessarily called “Spray Wheel” in the keybind menu. Look for Customizable Wheel under:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Settings → Keyboard or Controller → Communication → Customized Communication → Customizable Wheel

The commonly documented PC default is T. This wheel handles sprays and emotes, and can also be used for certain interactive emotes and environmental interactions. If an interaction prompt appears without a visible button, bind Customizable Wheel in the active hero’s communication settings.

As with Push to Talk, a hero-specific control profile may override the global binding. Check the active hero’s profile if the wheel does not respond.

Use text chat

On PC:

  1. Press Enter to open the chat box.
  2. Type your message.
  3. Press Enter again to send it.
  4. With the chat box open, press Tab to switch between Team Chat and Match Chat.

The current PC control reference lists Enable Chat as Enter and Hide Chat as Ctrl+Shift+C. On console, the activation control depends on the controller layout and can be changed under Communication. You will need the platform’s virtual keyboard or a connected keyboard to type.

Voice chat troubleshooting

Your microphone does not transmit on PC

  1. Set the Windows app input explicitly. With the game running, open Windows Settings → System → Sound → Volume mixer or App volume and device preferences, find Marvel Rivals, and set its input to the microphone you actually use instead of Default. This is a player-reported workaround.
  2. Allow microphone access. Go to Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. Enable Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone, and desktop-app microphone access.
  3. Check physical and platform mute controls. Inspect the headset mute switch, operating-system mute state, and any controller mute button. On PS5, check whether Mute Game Voice Chat is enabled in the system audio controls.
  4. Test Open Mic first. Temporarily select Open Mic. If it works, the microphone and permissions are probably functional and the issue is more likely the Push to Talk binding.
  5. Check every control profile. Verify the global and active-hero Push to Talk bindings, remove conflicts, and rebind the key.
  6. Check the channel. Confirm that Settings → Audio → Basic → In combat voice chat (send/receive) is set to the intended Squad or Team scope.
  7. Close competing audio applications. Temporarily exit Discord, streaming software, virtual-audio tools, and headset utilities. Then select the same microphone explicitly in Windows and in the game.

Discord and other applications are reported player-side causes, not a universal cause officially identified by NetEase.

You can hear teammates, but they cannot hear you

Receiving audio confirms only that your output path is working. Check the separate input path:

Logitech G432 Wired Gaming Headset - Black | DTS Headphone:X 2.0, 50 mm audio drivers, USB and 3.5 mm jack, Flip-to-Mute mic, PC compatible
  • Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
  • Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
  • Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
  • Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
  • Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
  • Input Device: make sure the intended microphone is selected.
  • Voice mode: confirm Open Mic or Push to Talk is enabled.
  • Push to Talk: hold the actual assigned key, not necessarily the default grave key.
  • Permissions: confirm Windows or console microphone access.
  • Channel: check whether you are connected to Squad or Team voice chat.
  • Hero profile: verify that the active hero has not overridden the binding.

If the Push to Talk prompt appears and the microphone meter reacts but teammates still hear nothing, check channel membership, player-specific mutes, platform voice restrictions, and possible session faults. The April 2025 update’s activation prompt helps distinguish an input problem from a later voice-session problem.

Voice chat disappears or fails when a match starts

First open the Voice Chat Menu. If the voice-channel entries and microphone icon have disappeared entirely, the session may have lost the voice system rather than merely failing to detect your microphone. Recheck the channel, leave and rejoin the match or party where appropriate, and restart the game if necessary.

Several older voice-related issues have already received official fixes:

  • April 11, 2025: voice chat was optimized, the Push to Talk prompt was added, and a rare settings-reset issue was fixed.
  • March 13, 2025: an issue involving player names in the Competitive voice-chat overlay and Hide Own Name was fixed.
  • May 8, 2025: anonymous mode was fixed so voice chat no longer revealed the player’s original name.
  • December 12, 2025: a console-to-PC settings overwrite issue was fixed.
  • December 18, 2025: a match-start squad voice-chat bug that could prevent microphone use was fixed.

Those fixes mean it is inaccurate to describe every voice-chat problem as an unresolved launch issue. If the problem persists on Version 20260807 after checking devices, permissions, profiles, and channels, it may be a new game or platform fault rather than one of the older documented bugs.

Voice-chat moderation and privacy

Voice chat is subject to moderation. Starting with the Season 3.5 community-management update in 2025, NetEase announced automated screening of in-game voice chat alongside player reports and manual review. Inappropriate voice content can therefore result in penalties even when nobody manually reports it.

The older claim that voice chat is moderated only after a report is no longer current. See NetEase’s Season 3.5 community-management announcement.

Common control mistakes

  • Using V as a guaranteed Push to Talk key: current PC references list the grave/tilde key, but your own binding may differ.
  • Pressing P to speak: P opens the Voice Chat Menu by default; it is not the microphone-transmit key.
  • Looking for “Spray Wheel”: search for Customizable Wheel.
  • Assuming all teammates share one channel: Squad and Team voice scopes are separate.
  • Changing only global controls: hero-specific profiles may override communication bindings.
