The fastest way to view achievements by set
- Open the Steam client and select Library.
- Choose the game whose achievements you want to inspect.
- Open the game’s Achievements page. Steam identifies this page as the player-facing location for achievements in the client and on the Steam Community website.
- If the game supports Achievement Sets, open the set selector or set filters.
- Choose Base Game, a DLC set, or another named set such as a mode, chapter, character, or event set.
- Read that set’s progress bar, then apply the locked or unlocked filter to narrow the list.
- Use the unlock-rate information to identify rare achievements and decide what to pursue next.
The set view is more useful than treating a game’s entire achievement list as one undifferentiated total. A DLC set can be tracked separately, and a completed set remains understandable even when the developer adds later content in a new set.

What Steam means by an Achievement Set
An Achievement Set is a named group of achievements with separate completion tracking. Every game has a Base Game set. Developers can create additional custom sets and can restrict a set to owners of a particular downloadable expansion. This keeps players who do not own that add-on from being blocked by achievements they cannot access.

A set is complete when you have unlocked every achievement that is still available in that set. An achievement that has been archived and was never unlocked does not count against completion. Steam also preserves a set’s completed state when new achievements are added later. Developers are therefore encouraged to create a new set for new content when they want the progress display to remain easy to interpret.

Open the set view in the Steam client
1. Start from your Library
Launch Steam and select Library. Click the game rather than opening a general profile achievement list; the set selector belongs to the game’s own achievement page.
2. Open Achievements
Choose the game’s Achievements page. The exact placement of the link can vary with Steam’s current library layout, but the destination is the page that lists the game’s unlocked and locked achievements.
3. Select a set
When the game implements Achievement Sets, a set selector or set filter appears near the achievement list. Select Base Game for the original set or choose the named DLC, mode, chapter, character, or event set you want to inspect. If no selector is shown, the game may not expose multiple sets through Steam’s current implementation.

4. Read the progress bar
The selected set has its own progress bar and unlocked-versus-total count. Treat that number as the completion status for the selected set, not automatically as a percentage for every achievement associated with the game.
5. Filter for the next task
Use the locked filter to hide achievements you have already earned. Switch to the unlocked filter when you want to review what you have completed in that set. The remaining locked list becomes a practical short list for a play session or a separate checklist.

6. Check rarity and global unlock rates
Steam’s achievement page exposes global unlock rates and identifies rare achievements. A low global rate does not prove that an achievement is difficult, but it is a useful signal when choosing between several unfinished objectives.
View the same information in a browser
For a browser view that does not start with a player-specific progress state, use Steam Community’s achievement-page format: https://steamcommunity.com/achievements/<appid>. Replace <appid> with the game’s Steam application ID. The page is useful when you are already working in a browser or want to share a direct achievement-list address instead of navigating through the client.
Because this browser route is not a personal progress dashboard by itself, use the signed-in client page when you need your own unlocked count, set completion state, or filters based on your account.
Use set filters to separate base content from DLC
Why DLC needs its own view
Without separate sets, a player who does not own an expansion could appear to have an incomplete game because expansion achievements are mixed into the same total. Steam’s set model avoids that problem by allowing the developer to restrict the expansion’s set to DLC owners.
What changes after you buy an expansion
Once you own the relevant DLC, its set can contribute to your progress. Open the game’s Achievements page, select the DLC set, and use its own locked filter and progress bar. Do not assume that the Base Game count will change in the same way as the DLC count; each set is tracked separately.

How to handle new content
If a developer adds achievements after you finish a set, Steam preserves the completed state of that set. New achievements may appear in a separate set so that your earlier completion remains clear. Check the set selector after a major update rather than interpreting a changed overall achievement list as a loss of your previous completion.

Compare your progress with friends
Steam’s achievement comparison view lets you compare your progress with up to three friends at a time. The comparison includes completed sets and progress in DLC sets, so you can see whether another player has finished the Base Game, a particular expansion, or another named set.
- Open the game’s achievement comparison view from the Steam achievement page.
- Add up to three friends.
- Switch between the relevant sets instead of comparing only the game-wide total.
- Use the differences in locked achievements to identify objectives that one of you has earned and the other has not.
Friend comparison is most useful when everyone owns the same DLC. If one person does not own an expansion, the corresponding DLC set may not be part of that player’s available progress in the same way.
Where completed sets can appear
Eligible completed sets can surface in several Steam locations, including your Steam profile, Games List, Library, Recently Played surfaces, and the Completionist Showcase. Eligibility depends on Steam’s presentation rules and the game’s implementation, so the absence of a set from one surface does not necessarily mean the set is unfinished.
Use the game’s own Achievements page as the authoritative place to inspect the set’s count and completion state. Profile and showcase surfaces are presentation layers; they are not a replacement for the per-set filters.

Track a whole-library achievement backlog
Steam’s native achievement pages are organized one game at a time. If you are working through dozens of games, create a personal spreadsheet or checklist that preserves the set structure instead of recording only one total per game.
Recommended columns
- Game name and App ID: identify the game and make the browser achievement URL easy to construct.
- Set name: record Base Game, the exact DLC name, or another custom set name.
- Unlocked: enter the number shown for that set.
- Total available: record the denominator shown by Steam for the current set.
- Completion status: mark the set complete only when Steam does.
- Next unfinished achievement: write one concrete target rather than copying every locked item.
- Notes: capture a rare achievement, a DLC ownership requirement, or a reason an achievement is temporarily unavailable.
- Last checked: date the row so you know which entries may need a refresh after a game update.
A practical updating routine
- Choose one game and open its Steam Achievements page.
- Review every set in the selector, not just the default Base Game view.
- Copy the unlocked and total counts for each set into the corresponding rows.
- Use the locked filter to select one next target for each active set.
- After a play session, refresh the page and update only the affected set and achievement.
- Recheck the game after a DLC purchase or substantial content update because new sets may appear.
This method gives you a cross-game queue while keeping DLC and other content from being mistaken for missing Base Game progress.
Optional: extend the workflow with SteamDB
The SteamDB browser extension is an optional supplement for people who want more history than Steam’s native pages provide. Its documented achievement features include sorting earned achievements by unlock time and optional grouping with Steam Hunters data.
Use the extension as a convenience layer, not as the source of truth for set completion. Steam’s Achievement Sets implementation can evolve, and a Steam client update can affect browser-extension compatibility. After a Steam update, verify that the extension still displays the expected set names, counts, and unlock history before relying on it for your backlog.

For privacy and access, check whether any third-party tool asks you to connect an account or make profile data public before using it. The native Steam workflow avoids adding another service, while a spreadsheet keeps your notes local but cannot update itself.

Troubleshooting common set-tracking problems
No set selector appears
Not every game presents multiple Achievement Sets. Confirm that you are on the game’s own Achievements page rather than a general profile list. If the game still shows one undivided list, Steam may not expose additional sets for that title.
A DLC set is missing
Developers can restrict a set to DLC owners. Verify that the relevant expansion is attached to the same Steam account, then reopen the game’s achievement page. A set may also be unavailable until the developer publishes it through Steam’s current Achievement Sets implementation.
The total changed after an update
Check each named set separately. New achievements can be placed in a new set, while Steam preserves a set that you had already completed. Compare the set-level counts instead of treating a changed game-wide total as a reset.
An archived achievement is still visible
Archived achievements can remain listed for historical context. If you never unlocked one before it was archived, Steam does not count it against completion of the set.
The browser page does not show your personal progress
The direct Steam Community URL is intended as a browser achievement view without a player-specific progress state. Return to the signed-in Steam client page when you need your own locked and unlocked filters or completion count.
Friend comparison is incomplete
Steam supports comparison with up to three friends. Remove one of the selected friends if you have reached that limit, then compare the relevant set rather than the game’s aggregate list. Different DLC ownership can also make the available sets differ between players.
The extension stopped sorting correctly
SteamDB’s extension is optional and depends on compatibility with Steam’s changing pages. After a Steam client update, confirm that the extension is current and that the achievement page still exposes the expected set data. Keep your spreadsheet or Steam page as the fallback record.
A repeatable routine for completionists
- Start with Steam’s set view: select the game, open Achievements, and inspect every set.
- Separate ownership: distinguish Base Game progress from DLC progress and note any set you cannot access yet.
- Prioritize: use locked filters for unfinished work and rarity information to choose a target.
- Record: update your cross-game sheet with the set name, unlocked/total count, and next achievement.
- Verify after changes: revisit the page after DLC purchases, major updates, or a new set appearing.
- Use comparison selectively: compare with no more than three friends when you want a shared goal.
- Add history only if needed: use the SteamDB extension for unlock-time sorting, while retaining Steam’s own set state as the authoritative completion record.
This division of labor keeps Steam responsible for current set completion, gives you a manageable library-wide queue, and prevents DLC or newly added achievements from obscuring what you have actually finished.
