How to Watch Every Street Fighter Movie and TV Series in Order

Watch the Street Fighter screen catalog in release order, not as one continuous timeline. Start with Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie for the strongest standalone anime introduction, then move through the separate television, live-action, promotional and motion-comic productions. The licensed Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection storyline is the closest thing to a connected modern live-action arc.

The short answer: use release order

Street Fighter adaptations do not share one screen continuity. The anime films, the two 1995 series, the 1990s and 2000s live-action films, the game-promotion projects and the licensed live-action trilogy each make different choices about chronology, character backgrounds and tone. Trying to place every production on one in-universe timeline creates contradictions rather than a clearer story.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

For a first viewing, follow the order in which the productions were released. That sequence shows how the franchise moved from arcade-game adaptation to television anime, experimental features, promotional shorts and more grounded martial-arts drama. It also prevents a later project from spoiling the context of an earlier one.

If you only want a compact sampler, watch Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, then the 12-part Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist and its additional episode. Add the 1994 live-action Street Fighter if you enjoy flamboyant 1990s action cinema. The Chun-Li film, the two Alpha features, the motion comic and the game-promotion OVAs are optional completions rather than required chapters.

Every Street Fighter screen production in release order

The table identifies the format and the continuity you are entering at each step. “Standalone” means the production does not require another screen adaptation to make sense. “Game-promotion” identifies a project built to support a particular game release, while the licensed live-action thread refers specifically to Legacy, Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection.

# Release Production Format Continuity or purpose
1 1994 Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie Japanese animated feature Standalone interpretation of the World Warriors against M. Bison and Shadowlaw
2 1994 Street Fighter Live-action feature Separate interpretation starring Guile and M. Bison

11 2010 Street Fighter: Legacy Licensed short film Proof of concept for the later live-action projects
12 2014 Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist 12-part live-action series plus a secret 13th episode Licensed live-action account of Ryu and Ken’s training and Gōki’s history
13 2016 Street Fighter: Resurrection Live-action series Follow-up tied to Street Fighter V and the licensed trilogy
14 2026 Street Fighter Live-action feature New production jointly financed by Capcom and Legendary Entertainment; separate continuity status should be treated as unconfirmed until the film establishes it

1. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994)

This Japanese feature is the best starting point for most anime-focused viewers. It presents the World Warriors in a feature-length story built around M. Bison and Shadowlaw, with the visual language and character roster associated with Street Fighter II. The United States dub arrived in 1995, so an American release date can appear one year later on listings and physical editions.

It is a self-contained interpretation, not an opening chapter for Street Fighter II: V or the American animated series. Watch it first if you want the clearest introduction to the franchise’s animated action and to the basic conflict between the fighters and Shadowlaw.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Street Fighter (1994)

The first live-action feature is deliberately separate from the anime material. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays Colonel Guile and Raul Julia plays M. Bison, making the film a Guile-led military action story rather than a direct translation of Ryu and Ken’s training narrative.

Its broad tone, unusual character arrangements and 1990s production style are part of its identity. Place it second because that preserves release history, not because the film follows the animated feature’s events.

3. Street Fighter II: V (1995)

This 29-episode Japanese anime series follows Ryu and Ken before their conflict with M. Bison and Shadowlaw. Its longer format gives their travels, training and encounters more room than a single feature, and it is the natural choice when you want a journey centered on the two principal martial artists.

Street Fighter II: V is not a continuation of the 1994 animated film. Treat the shared names and game-derived concepts as parallel adaptation choices rather than evidence of a common screen chronology.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Street Fighter: The Animated Series (1995)

The 26-episode American series shifts the center of gravity to Guile and his military organization. It is a separate continuity from Street Fighter II: V, even though both shows use familiar fighters and Shadowlaw-related ideas.

  • 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Watch it after the Japanese series to see the contrast between two television approaches: one built around Ryu and Ken’s formative travels, the other around an organized military response led by Guile. There is no need to alternate episodes between the shows.

5. Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie (1999)

This anime feature uses an Alpha-era premise and a younger Ryu. The guide to the release order identifies it as non-canon to the game’s storyline, so it should not be used to reconcile details from the earlier anime or live-action projects.

It works best as an alternate take on Ryu’s early characterization. View it when you want an additional anime interpretation, not when you are looking for the next chronological chapter after Street Fighter II: V.

6. Street Fighter Alpha: Generations (2005)

This standalone U.S.-market animated feature focuses on Ryu, Akuma (Gouki) and the Satsui no Hado. Its subject matter makes it more concentrated on the danger of destructive fighting power than on assembling the entire World Warriors cast.

Because it is standalone, you can watch it without treating the 1999 Alpha film as required background. The shared Alpha label describes the era and themes, not a dependable film-to-film continuity.

7. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)

Kristin Kreuk stars in this separate live-action origin story for Chun-Li. It is not a sequel to the 1994 film and does not lead into the licensed Assassin’s Fist storyline.

Its placement in release order matters mainly for completeness. If Chun-Li is your preferred character, you can move it earlier in a character-focused marathon, but doing so creates a personal viewing path rather than an official shared chronology.

8. Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind (2009)

This animated feature was made as a promotional companion to Street Fighter IV. Its ensemble includes Cammy’s Delta Red, Guile, Chun-Li, Crimson Viper and Ryu, so it is most useful when you want game-era context around the Street Fighter IV cast.

  • Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

  • Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

As a game-promotion feature, it is not a bridge between the earlier anime and the live-action productions. Watch it as an adaptation attached to a game campaign, with expectations set accordingly.

9. Street Fighter: Round One: FIGHT! (2009)

Round One: FIGHT! is an animated comic or motion-comic adaptation of UDON material. It is therefore different from both a conventional animated film and a television series: the comic artwork and controlled motion carry the story rather than full traditional animation.

Collectors should keep it in the release sequence because it documents another way the franchise was adapted for screen. Viewers seeking only fully animated fights can skip it without losing the plot of any other production.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

10. Super Street Fighter IV OVA (2010)

This Juri-focused OVA was released as downloadable promotional material for Super Street Fighter IV. Its short-form design and promotional purpose make it closer to an illustrated game introduction than to a feature that advances a broad film universe.

Place it after the other 2009 game-related projects if you are following release history. It is optional for narrative viewing and most valuable to viewers interested in Juri or in the marketing-era adaptations surrounding Super Street Fighter IV.

11. Street Fighter: Legacy (2010)

Joey Ansah and Capcom licensed this short film as a proof of concept for a more serious live-action approach. The live-action trilogy site recorded more than 18 million YouTube views for the project in its 2010-era listing, an indication of the audience interest that surrounded it at the time.

Legacy is brief, but it matters because it leads into the later licensed productions. Watch it immediately before Assassin’s Fist if you want to see that live-action experiment develop, while remembering that a proof of concept is not a full-length chapter with the same scope as the series that followed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

12. Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014)

This licensed live-action production contains 12 parts and a secret 13th episode. It traces Ryu and Ken’s Ansatsuken training and explores Gōki’s history, making it the most substantial screen treatment of their martial-arts upbringing in this release list.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

For many viewers, it is the main event of the live-action catalog. The training focus, longer episodic structure and attention to the Ansatsuken lineage distinguish it from the 1994 feature and the separate Chun-Li origin film. Watch all 12 announced parts, then look for the additional episode where the version you are using makes it available.

13. Street Fighter: Resurrection (2016)

Resurrection is the licensed live-action follow-up produced to support Street Fighter V and the go90 platform. Ryu, Ken and Charlie Nash investigate a Shadaloo-linked arms operation, giving the series a contemporary conspiracy structure rather than another account of the fighters’ childhood training.

Watch it after Assassin’s Fist. The two productions form the closest connected live-action thread in the catalog, although their relationship should not be extended to the 1994 feature, The Legend of Chun-Li or the 2026 film without explicit confirmation from those productions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

14. Street Fighter (2026)

Capcom announced on September 5, 2025 that filming had commenced on a new live-action adaptation in collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, with both companies jointly financing it. The announcement listed October 16, 2026 as the release date and named Noah Centineo as Ken, Andrew Koji as Ryu and Callina Liang as Chun-Li.

Because the announced project is a new production rather than a stated continuation of Assassin’s Fist or Resurrection, place it last in a release-order marathon and treat its continuity as its own until the film says otherwise. The date is the announced release date; local listings and actual access can differ by territory.

How the continuities fit together

Anime and animated features

The 1994 animated film, Street Fighter II: V, the American animated series and the two Alpha features all use animation but do not form one timeline. Shared fighters, villains and terminology come from the games; they do not guarantee that one production remembers another’s events.

The Ties That Bind and the Super Street Fighter IV OVA have an additional distinction: they were made to promote specific games. Their value is tied to seeing how those games presented their casts, not to filling a missing chapter between older screen stories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Live-action interpretations

The 1994 film and The Legend of Chun-Li are separate live-action interpretations. Neither is a prequel or sequel to the other, and neither is required before the licensed trilogy.

  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

Legacy, Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection are the coherent licensed thread. Even there, the safest approach is to follow their production order rather than attempt to merge them with every other adaptation.

The 2026 film

The new film is being made through a separate Capcom–Legendary collaboration. The announcement confirms its production and principal cast, but the available release information does not establish that it continues any earlier film or series. Do not insert it between older entries as if it were a missing sequel.

Choose a watch path by your goal

  • Best anime introduction: Start with Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, then sample Street Fighter II: V. Continue with the American series only if you want its Guile-centered approach.
  • Ryu and Ken’s martial-arts story: Watch Street Fighter II: V, Street Fighter Alpha: Generations for its Ryu–Akuma focus, then Assassin’s Fist for the live-action training narrative.
  • Connected live-action material: Watch Legacy, all 12 parts of Assassin’s Fist plus its additional episode, and then Resurrection.
  • 1990s nostalgia: Pair the 1994 live-action film with the 1995 American animated series. They share an era and a Guile emphasis but not a continuity.
  • Game-history completist: Include The Ties That Bind, Round One: FIGHT! and the Super Street Fighter IV OVA after the earlier features and series.
  • Chun-Li focus: Watch The Legend of Chun-Li as a standalone origin, then compare her portrayal with The Ties That Bind and the announced 2026 film.

Where to watch or buy the productions

Availability changes by country, service and date, so there is no permanent worldwide streaming list. A JustWatch check of the United States across 374 services on October 18, 2026 showed different outcomes across the catalog: some titles had rental or purchase listings, some had no streaming listing, and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie was listed for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Search by the exact title and year, then confirm that the result is the feature, series or OVA you intended. A listing for Street Fighter can refer to the 1994 film or the 2026 production, while “Street Fighter II” can refer to the animated feature, the anime series or game-related home-video material.

Physical editions

Physical media is the most dependable option for titles that rotate out of streaming catalogs. The animated feature’s Blu-ray and DVD listings make it a practical purchase for the recommended starting point. Check the edition’s region coding, subtitle and dub options, episode count and whether bonus material contains the additional Assassin’s Fist episode before buying.

Digital rental and purchase

Digital stores may list rentals or purchases even when a subscription service does not carry a title. Confirm the runtime, release year and cast in the store description, especially for the two productions titled Street Fighter. Promotional works such as the OVA and motion comic may appear under game-related collections rather than in a general movie search.

A practical way to schedule the marathon

  1. Decide whether release history or a focused sampler matters more. Use the 14-step order above for a complete catalog watch; use the three-title sampler for a short introduction.
  2. Separate the formats on your watchlist. Mark features, television episodes, the motion comic and the OVA separately so a short promotional work is not mistaken for a missing full-length film.
  3. Keep the live-action thread together. Put Legacy, Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection in that order, with the additional Assassin’s Fist episode after the 12 main parts if your edition includes it.
  4. Check the year before pressing play. For the two productions named Street Fighter, verify whether the listing says 1994 or 2026. For Street Fighter II, verify whether it says “The Animated Movie” or “V.”
  5. Record your stopping point by title and episode. This is especially useful for the 29-episode and 26-episode series and for the 12-part Assassin’s Fist run.
  6. Reassess availability in your country. Streaming rights can change after a search, and a title available in the United States may be unavailable in another territory.

Why the franchise has so many different screen versions

Street Fighter’s screen history follows the needs of different formats. A feature film has to compress a large roster into one conflict; a television series can follow training, travel or military operations over many episodes; a game-promotion OVA can spotlight one character or release; and a motion comic can adapt existing illustrated material without being produced like a conventional animated movie.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The commercial reach of the underlying game series helps explain the continuing stream of adaptations. Capcom reported more than 49 million cumulative Street Fighter game shipments worldwide as of December 31, 2022. In its 2025 announcement for the new film, Legendary Entertainment cited more than $21 billion in associated global box-office revenue for its broader connected business context. Those figures describe the scale surrounding the property, not a claim that every screen production belongs to one story.

The useful distinction for viewers is therefore not “which film comes next in the plot?” but “which format and continuity do I want next?” Release order answers that question without pretending that separate adaptations share events they were never designed to share.
