For a first viewing, watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, then the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, then Season 2, and finally Season 3: Culling Game Part 1. For a chronological rewatch, start with Season 2 episodes 1–5 (the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc), continue with Jujutsu Kaisen 0, then Season 1, Season 2 episode 6 onward, and Season 3.
The recommended first-watch order
Release order is the safest route for anyone starting the anime. It follows the way the story’s reveals, character introductions and flashbacks were designed to land.

- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 — 24 episodes.
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — the prequel feature film, released after Season 1.
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, episodes 1–5 — Hidden Inventory/Premature Death.
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, episodes 6–23 — Shibuya Incident.
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: Culling Game Part 1.
Season 2 is one continuous season but has two very different sections. Episodes 1–5 are a flashback to Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto as students. Episode 6 moves to the Shibuya Incident and returns to the main timeline. Do not treat Hidden Inventory/Premature Death as a separate season when making a watch list; it is the opening five-episode block of Season 2.

The anime was released with the flashback material deliberately held until Season 2. Watching Season 1 first establishes the present-day cast, rules of jujutsu society and the relationships that make the later flashback meaningful. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 then expands the world with a prequel story while still benefiting from the context Season 1 has already provided.

- When an accident takes the life of Yuta's childhood friend, he's left with her cursed spirit. As she harms the people near him, a depressed Yuta must choose between execution or the Jujutsu sorcerers. Can the curse of love turn into his greatest gift?
Moving directly from the film into Season 2 preserves the intended transition from the prequel’s ideas to Gojo and Geto’s history. If you begin with the chronological flashback instead, you will understand the in-universe dates sooner, but some character information and dramatic reveals arrive in a different order from the broadcast version.
| Question | Release order | Chronological order |
|---|---|---|
| Best for a first viewing? | Yes | Usually no |
| Preserves the anime’s reveal sequence? | Yes | No; the flashback comes first |
| Follows in-universe chronology? | Partly | Yes, for the animated material |
| Best use | Starting the franchise | Rewatching or studying the timeline |
Chronological order, step by step
Use this sequence when you have already seen the anime or specifically want the events arranged by when they occur in the story.
- Season 2, episodes 1–5: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death. These episodes follow Gojo and Geto during their student years and form the earliest major animated storyline.
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The film takes place after the events of that flashback and before Season 1.
- Season 1. This is the main present-day starting point for Yuji Itadori and the wider student cast.
- Season 2, episode 6 through episode 23: Shibuya Incident. Start at episode 6, not episode 1, if you have already watched the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death episodes as the opening chronological block.
- Season 3: Culling Game Part 1. This follows the Season 2 storyline and is the latest animated part covered by the current release information.
The split inside Season 2 is essential. Watching all of Season 2 after Season 1 and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is correct for release order. In a chronological rewatch, watch only episodes 1–5 first, place the film next, then return to Season 2 at episode 6.

What each entry contributes
Season 1: the present-day foundation
The 24 episodes of Season 1 introduce Yuji, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Gojo and the operating rules of the jujutsu world. It is the reference point for both later routes, which is why skipping it in a first viewing creates unnecessary confusion even if you have seen clips or summaries.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0: the prequel film
The film is a self-contained prequel released after Season 1. Its placement after Season 1 in release order is not an error: that is how audiences originally received it. Chronologically, it belongs between Hidden Inventory/Premature Death and Season 1.
Hidden Inventory/Premature Death: five episodes of backstory
Season 2 episodes 1–5 show Gojo and Geto as students. The arc supplies the personal and historical context behind their adult roles. It is both a flashback and the first chronological chapter of the animated story.
Shibuya Incident: Season 2 episode 6 onward
Episode 6 marks the change from the student-era flashback to the Shibuya Incident. Episodes 6–23 continue the main timeline and should be watched as a block after Season 1 in release order, or after Season 1 in the chronological sequence described above.
Season 3: Culling Game Part 1
Season 3 continues from the events of Season 2 and is titled Culling Game Part 1. Current release reporting states that this part consisted of 12 episodes and ran from January through March 2026. A continuation called Culling Game Part 2—also referred to as Season 4 in some coverage—is expected in 2027, but schedules can change. Check the latest official announcement before treating that continuation as available or assigning it a fixed date.

Can you watch the compilation movies instead?
Compilation films are optional recap versions of material already adapted for television. They are useful if you want a film-length refresher, but they do not add a required new chapter to the viewing order.
Hidden Inventory/Premature Death compilation
A compilation film covering Hidden Inventory/Premature Death can substitute for Season 2 episodes 1–5 when you prefer a single movie session. Do not watch both versions back-to-back unless you intentionally want to compare the edit; the film recaps the same storyline.
Shibuya compilation
A Shibuya compilation is another recap option. Some editions are packaged with early Season 3 material, so check the listed contents before assuming the film replaces every television episode or includes all of Season 3. Treat it as an alternate presentation of previously adapted material, not an extra required entry.
When a compilation is the wrong choice
- Do not use a recap film to skip Season 1 when you are a first-time viewer; the television episodes establish details that later arcs rely on.
- Do not count a compilation as a new season when making a completion list.
- If you have already watched the corresponding episodes, the compilation is redundant unless you want a condensed rewatch.
Which order should you choose?
| Your situation | Use this order | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You have never watched Jujutsu Kaisen | Season 1 → Jujutsu Kaisen 0 → Season 2 → Season 3 | Matches the anime’s release and reveal structure |
| You finished the anime and want a timeline rewatch | Season 2 episodes 1–5 → Jujutsu Kaisen 0 → Season 1 → Season 2 episode 6 onward → Season 3 | Places the major animated stories in in-universe order |
| You want a short refresher before continuing | Use the relevant compilation film, then continue with any uncovered television episodes | Saves time without presenting recap material as new content |
| You are rewatching only Gojo and Geto’s history | Season 2 episodes 1–5, optionally followed by the film | Keeps the connected prequel material together |
If you are unsure, choose release order. Chronological order is a preference for a rewatch, not a correction to the official viewing experience.

How to avoid common watch-order mistakes
Do not put the film before everything else on a first viewing
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is chronologically early, but it was released after Season 1. Starting with it can introduce characters and concepts before the television series has supplied their context. Keep it after Season 1 unless you are deliberately following the chronological rewatch.
Do not start Season 2 at episode 6 on a first viewing
Episodes 1–5 are not optional side stories. They establish the student-era history that informs the rest of the season. Starting at episode 6 makes sense only after you have already watched those five episodes or replaced them with their compilation film.
Do not confuse “chronological” with “spoiler-free”
The chronological route changes when information is revealed. It may make the timeline easier to follow while reducing the impact of reveals designed for the release sequence. Choose it for continuity, not because it is universally superior.
Do not assume every compilation has identical contents
Titles and packages can differ by release. Read the edition description and runtime, especially for a Shibuya compilation that may be bundled with early Season 3 footage.

Where to watch legally
Streaming rights vary by country, language option and subscription tier. Use the official listing for your territory and confirm that it includes the season or film you want before starting. A service may carry the television seasons but not the film, or may list subtitle and dub versions separately.
- Check that the listing identifies the correct season and episode count.
- Verify whether Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is included in your region or requires a separate rental or purchase.
- Confirm subtitle, audio and age-rating information before watching.
- If you use a Blu-ray or digital purchase, check the region, included languages and edition contents.
Because licensing pages change, availability should be checked at the time you watch rather than inferred from an older list.
A practical checklist
For a first watch, mark each item in this order:
- Season 1, episodes 1–24.
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
- Season 2, episodes 1–5: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death.
- Season 2, episodes 6–23: Shibuya Incident.
- Season 3: Culling Game Part 1.
For a chronological rewatch, use this checklist instead:

- Season 2, episodes 1–5.
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
- Season 1, episodes 1–24.
- Season 2, episodes 6–23.
- Season 3: Culling Game Part 1.
That distinction resolves the central question: watch the film after Season 1 when you are starting the franchise, and between Hidden Inventory/Premature Death and Season 1 when you are arranging the story by chronology.
