How Active Reload and reload interruptions work
Active Reload returns in E-Day with an indicator positioned where the player aims in the gameplay demo. The risk-and-reward mechanic can involve a weapon jam or extra damage, according to creative director Matt Searcy on the Official Xbox Podcast. The campaign preview describes a well-timed Perfect Reload as speeding up the next round; a poorly timed attempt can jam the weapon. Those descriptions do not establish one damage bonus or timing window that applies universally.

Some weapons load ammunition one round at a time. In the demo discussed on the podcast, Searcy explained that players can interrupt the reload and fire a loaded shell immediately. The July 31, 2026 gameplay update specifies that the Gnasher and Breechshot use this round-by-round active reload system: load one or two rounds, then fire without waiting for the full cycle to finish. That gives you an option when a fight cannot wait for a complete reload, at the cost of having fewer rounds ready.
Gnasher capacity and weapon-specific details
The Coalition says the Gnasher holds six shells, down from eight in earlier games, to balance the new hot-reload option. The six-shell figure is a developer-published specification, not an independent measurement.

The same gameplay update describes several weapons by their published handling characteristics. These details can help distinguish their roles, but they are not a comprehensive ranking of damage:
- Prototype Lancer: higher rate of fire and a deeper magazine than recent Lancers.
- Hammerburst: fires an accurate six-round burst; a Perfect Active Reload increases its rate of fire.
- Breechshot: can kill with one headshot in PvP, and supports round-by-round reloading.
- Retro Lancer: dangerous at close range; usable at medium to long range if you can manage its recoil.
- Snub: a fast-drawing weapon for finishing an opponent.
Where to get ammunition in Campaign
In the campaign, supply caches around the city can refill ammunition, change your loadout, and let you equip weapon mods, according to the August 25, 2026 Xbox campaign preview. They therefore serve as both resupply points and opportunities to adjust your weapons for what comes next.

How mods and loadouts vary by mode
Weapon customization is mode-dependent, not a single ruleset shared across the game. The July 30, 2026 multiplayer deep dive describes Weapon Mods in Campaign and Horde Siege, while Horde Siege also has armor mods that can affect ammunition reserves. Players unlock mods through class progression and Weapon Parts.
Versus works differently: the developer says there are no weapon mods in that mode, and all players begin with the same loadout weapons and equipment. Do not apply Campaign or Horde Siege mod effects to Versus.

What is—and is not—known about weapon damage
The official materials describe selected weapon traits, including the Breechshot’s one-headshot kill in PvP and the Hammerburst’s faster firing after a Perfect Active Reload. They do not provide a complete numeric damage chart covering every weapon, range, enemy, and hit location. Nor do they establish universal reload timings or damage multipliers. Treat damage descriptions as specific to the weapon and mode named, rather than as a basis for exact cross-weapon damage rankings.
