In the 2026 WNBA playoffs, eight teams qualify league-wide. The first round is best-of-three, the semifinals best-of-five and the Finals best-of-seven. Higher seeds host more games, and regular-season ties are settled through the league’s ordered tiebreakers.

These are the WNBA’s published 2026 formats. Each series ends as soon as one team has won the required number of games: two in the first round, three in the semifinals or four in the Finals. How does home-court advantage work?
The higher seed in a matchup hosts more games, but the schedule differs by round. In the first round, the home sequence is 1-1-1: the higher seed hosts Game 1, the lower seed hosts Game 2, and the higher seed hosts Game 3 if needed. So the higher seed does not host the first two games.
The semifinals use a 2-2-1 pattern, and the Finals use 2-2-1-1-1. The numbers describe consecutive home games for the higher seed, then the lower seed, and so on. The first-round 1-1-1 schedule was adopted for 2025 to guarantee each team a home game. The Finals also expanded from best-of-five to best-of-seven beginning in 2025. How are teams seeded and paired?
The top eight teams qualify based on regular-season records, without regard to conference. The bracket pairs No. 1 with No. 8 and No. 4 with No. 5 in one half; No. 2 plays No. 7 and No. 3 plays No. 6 in the other. - Better winning percentage against all teams that finish the season at .500 or better.
- Better point differential in head-to-head games: points scored minus points allowed.
- Better point differential against all opponents: points scored minus points allowed.
For a tie involving more than two teams, teams are eliminated as a criterion separates them. If one or more teams are eliminated, the process restarts at the first criterion for the remaining tied teams.
