HP launches OMEN 25 360Hz gaming monitor as the official display for LoL Esports and VCT

HP’s OMEN 25 targets competitive PC gamers with a 360Hz 1080p IPS panel, but its esports partnership, launch price and real-world performance need careful interpretation.

HP’s OMEN 25 is a 24.5-inch-class, 1080p IPS gaming monitor built for high-frame-rate competitive play. It offers a maximum 360Hz refresh rate, HP-rated 1ms GtG response time with overdrive, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium support, and an announced starting price of $419.99.

HP introduced the monitor on October 14, 2025, alongside an OMEN 16 League of Legends Limited Edition laptop. HP says the OMEN 25 is the official monitor of League of Legends Esports and the VALORANT Champions Tour. That is a partnership and branding claim—not proof that every professional player must use this exact retail model or that it is automatically faster than competing displays.

What HP launched

The OMEN 25 uses a flat 24.48-inch IPS panel with a native resolution of 1920 × 1080. Its headline feature is a 360Hz maximum refresh rate, aimed at players who can sustain very high frame rates in games such as League of Legends, VALORANT and other competitive shooters.

HP lists a 1ms GtG response time with overdrive. That is an advertised operating figure, not a guarantee that every pixel transition will complete in 1ms at every refresh rate or overdrive setting. Independent testing would be needed to assess motion clarity, input latency, overshoot and frame-time behavior.

HP’s launch announcement is available on its official newsroom page, while the monitor’s specifications and esports designation appear on the OMEN 25 product page.

What “official display” means

HP’s product and press materials describe the OMEN 25 as the official monitor or display of League of Legends Esports and the VALORANT Champions Tour. The available announcement does not establish the full scope or duration of that arrangement, which events will deploy the monitor, whether it is mandatory for competitors, or whether the partnership is exclusive.

The safest interpretation is that HP has a tournament, promotional and branding relationship connected with Riot’s esports properties. It should not be read as a guarantee that the OMEN 25 provides a competitive advantage, is used by every professional, or is the fastest 360Hz monitor available.

Why 360Hz matters—and when it does not

A 60Hz monitor refreshes approximately every 16.67 milliseconds. At 144Hz, that interval falls to about 6.94ms; at 240Hz, it is about 4.17ms; and at 360Hz, it is about 2.78ms.

The improvement from 240Hz to 360Hz is therefore real but modest: roughly 1.39ms per refresh. It is far less dramatic than moving from 60Hz to 144Hz. The OMEN 25 makes most sense for players who can sustain frame rates close to 360fps and who care about reducing display persistence and refresh-related latency in competitive games.

ASUS TUF Gaming VG259QMRL5A 25 Inch 1080p 310Hz G-SYNC Gaming Monitor | Gaming AI, Ergonomic Stand, FreeSync Premium, Fast-IPS panel, DisplayHDR 400, 0.3ms, 99% sRGB, Height Adjustable
  • High-Performance Display: 24.5-inch Full HD (1920x1080) Fast IPS gaming monitor with overclock to 310Hz refresh rate designed for professional gamers and immersive gameplay
  • Ultra-Fast Response Time: ASUS Fast IPS technology enables a 0.3ms (GTG) response time(min.) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
  • Seamless Gaming Experience: FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatible delivers a seamless, tear-free gaming experience
  • Advanced Motion Blur Technology: ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC) technology enables ELMB together with variable refresh rate, eliminating ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
  • Easy Monitor Control: DisplayWidget Center enables easy OSD access and monitor settings adjustments with a mouse

A 360Hz panel cannot create frames that the game and PC do not render. If a system averages 160fps, the monitor will still work, but it will not deliver the full benefit of its maximum refresh rate. Stable frame times can matter more than a short-lived 360fps peak. CPU limits, GPU render time, background applications, input devices, game settings and display processing all contribute to total system latency.

Ports and console support

Launch coverage reports two HDMI 2.0 inputs, one DisplayPort 1.4 input, two USB-A 5Gbps ports, one USB-B upstream connection and a 3.5mm audio jack. HP also describes 4K downscaling for console HDR use and says the monitor was tested with more than 140 major console setups. Notebookcheck’s launch report summarises those connectivity and compatibility claims.

“4K downscaling” does not make this a 4K monitor. The panel remains natively 1920 × 1080. Console owners should verify the exact HDMI refresh-rate, HDR and variable-refresh combinations supported by their console and the final regional specification sheet. The available material does not confirm every input’s maximum refresh rate, USB charging behavior, included cables or regional cable variations.

HDR and colour: useful extras, not the main reason to buy

DisplayHDR 400 provides an entry-level HDR certification. It does not imply OLED-like contrast, local dimming or a transformative HDR image. The listed 400-nit typical brightness and 1000:1 contrast ratio point to a display primarily designed around fast competitive gaming rather than premium HDR.

The wide-gamut coverage, factory calibration and 99.5% sRGB claim make the OMEN 25 more versatile than a narrowly tuned esports screen. However, colour accuracy, brightness uniformity, motion performance and overdrive tuning still require independent measurements.

Sustainability claims

HP identifies 80% post-consumer recycled plastic in the monitor enclosure, at least 10% recycled metal in the stand, 20% recycled glass in the panel and 100% recyclable packaging. These figures describe material composition. They do not, by themselves, establish the product’s total lifecycle emissions, energy use, repairability or end-of-life recovery rate.

Price and availability

HP announced a starting price of $419.99 and expected HP.com availability in November 2025. That is the launch MSRP, not a confirmed current street price.

HP maintains a U.S. shop listing, but an indexed result has displayed $0.00. That figure should not be treated as a genuine selling price; it may represent a placeholder, unavailable stock or an indexing error. Check the product page and checkout for live stock, price and regional shipping before buying.

Is the OMEN 25 worth buying?

It is a good fit if you:

  • Primarily play competitive esports games on PC.
  • Can sustain very high frame rates at 1080p.
  • Prefer a compact 24–25-inch display for esports play.
  • Want an adjustable IPS stand and wide viewing angles.
  • Need variable-refresh support for either NVIDIA or AMD graphics.

Look elsewhere if you:

  • Prioritise sharp text, desktop space or cinematic image quality.
  • Usually play below roughly 200fps.
  • Want native 1440p or 4K gaming.
  • Expect strong HDR, deep blacks or local-dimming performance.
  • Want OLED contrast and are prepared to manage its burn-in considerations.
  • Are paying a substantial premium over a similarly capable 240Hz display without independent test data.

The central trade-off is deliberate: 1080p reduces GPU demand and makes very high frame rates easier, but it is less sharp than 1440p. A 240Hz 1440p monitor may be a better mixed-use choice, while a 27-inch OLED may be preferable for buyers who value contrast and response characteristics more than esports-focused resolution.

Setup checklist for 360Hz gaming

  1. Connect through the appropriate DisplayPort or HDMI input and use a cable that supports the desired mode.
  2. Set the display to 360Hz in Windows’ advanced display settings.
  3. Enable G-SYNC Compatible or FreeSync Premium as appropriate for the graphics card.
  4. Check that the game is not capped at 60Hz, 144Hz or 240Hz.
  5. Use a frame-rate cap if it produces more consistent frame times on your system.
  6. Test the monitor’s overdrive settings instead of automatically choosing the strongest mode.
  7. Look for inverse ghosting, bright halos or other artifacts around moving objects.

Menu names can vary by Windows version, graphics-driver software and game. If 360Hz is unavailable, check the cable, input, resolution-refresh combination, driver settings and system configuration. Console devices will normally use much lower refresh modes than 360Hz.

What remains unverified

HP’s published claims do not replace a full independent review. Still to be established through testing are real input latency, pixel-response consistency, overshoot, motion clarity, brightness uniformity, HDR performance, colour accuracy and the practical value of ClearMR or other display certifications. The precise operational scope of HP’s League of Legends Esports and VCT partnership also requires more detailed event or Riot documentation.

Verdict: the OMEN 25 is best understood as a competitive-gaming-first 1080p 360Hz monitor. Its esports branding may be relevant to HP’s tournament relationship, but the buying case rests on the hardware: a high-frame-rate PC, preference for 24.5-inch 1080p play and a willingness to trade resolution and HDR quality for refresh headroom.
