DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands finish, then reinstall or add the printer again.

Do not assume that path exists on your computer or that manually placing a file there is a valid repair.
Public listings also report older 32-bit builds, including version 0.3.3790.1830 at approximately 1.59 MB. Other Windows driver-store evidence identifies a different AMD64 build. The filename, file size, or hash alone cannot prove that a replacement is correct.
Why the file disappears or will not load

Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the HP printer
This is the most likely fix when the message appears while adding, printing with, or scanning from an HP Officejet 6500.
Remove the printer in Windows 11
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the affected HP printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
Remove it in Windows 10
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the HP printer.
- Select Remove device and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
For a deeper cleanup:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printui /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- On the Drivers tab, select the old HP driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that choice.
- Restart the computer.
Only remove the HP package that belongs to the affected printer. Do not delete unrelated printer drivers if other printers depend on them.
Install the correct package
Use HP’s official support page for the exact Officejet 6500 model, or use Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog for an available HP printer package. Match all of the following:

After installation, print a Windows test page:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices or Devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the HP printer.
- Choose Print a test page.
If the test page prints and the error does not return, the driver chain was repaired. If setup still fails, continue with the Windows component repair below.
Manually comparing old driver packages and guessing which architecture is correct can take longer than the installation itself. Fix 2: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC

Microsoft recommends repairing the Windows component store with DISM before running System File Checker. Open an elevated terminal:

- Type Terminal or Command Prompt.
- Right-click the result.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to complete. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Do not close the window while SFC is checking files.
Interpret the result

Windows did not find general system-file corruption. Continue with the HP driver reinstall if the printer still fails. -

Restart Windows and test the printer again. -

Run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. DISM cannot find the source files
Do not downloadhp6500nt.dllseparately. Use a matching Windows installation source according to Microsoft’s repair guidance.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which component changed can make troubleshooting difficult. - Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry mentioning the HP printer installation or
hp6500nt.dll. - Note the detected file path and the package that created it.
Do not restore the file merely because its name looks familiar. Restore it only when it came from a trusted, signed HP package and the detection is clearly a mistake. Otherwise, remove the HP printer software and reinstall it from an official source.

First back up important data. Then open an administrator Command Prompt and run:
chkdsk /f C:
Windows may ask to schedule the check for the next restart. Type Y, press Enter, and restart.
Disk repair can take time and may require exclusive access to the volume. If errors continue after the check, investigate the storage device rather than repeatedly replacing printer files.

Does regsvr32 fix hp6500nt.dll?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is for a DLL that supports self-registration through an entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver component is not automatically a self-registering DLL.
