httpprxm.dll errors may say “The code execution cannot proceed because httpprxm.dll was not found,” “httpprxm.dll is missing,” or “httpprxm.dll could not be loaded.” httpprxm.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system component, so do not start by downloading a replacement DLL.
The 60-second answer
httpprxm.dll is Microsoft’s Proxy Manager component for Windows networking and proxy handling. It is associated with Windows features including DirectAccess; “Proxy Manager” is the file description, not proof that a separate Proxy Manager application is installed.

The normal location is:
C:WindowsSystem32httpprxm.dll
The safest repair order is:
- Install pending Windows updates and restart.
- Run DISM from an elevated Command Prompt.
- Run System File Checker.
- Check Windows Security Protection history.
- Use update rollback, System Restore, or Windows recovery if the problem continues.
Do not copy the file from another computer, use a random DLL download site, or register it with regsvr32.

| Cause | What it means | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| Corrupted Windows component | The protected file or its component-store source is damaged | Windows Update, DISM, then SFC |
| Failed servicing or update | An update or rollback did not complete cleanly | Restart, update again, then repair Windows |
| Antivirus quarantine | A security product removed or isolated the file | Check Protection history before restoring anything |
| Disk or component-store damage | Windows cannot read or rebuild system files correctly | DISM, SFC, disk checks, then recovery |
| Malware or tampering | The file was removed or modified | Full or Defender Offline scan, followed by repair |
| One damaged legacy application | Only one program is requesting the component incorrectly | Repair or reinstall that application after Windows is healthy |
There is no verified evidence that a particular game or consumer application normally requires this file. If the message appears only when one old application starts, treat the application as a separate suspect rather than immediately installing a runtime package.
Confirm the file and your Windows details
Before changing anything, record:
- Your Windows edition and version
- Whether the message appears during startup or only when launching one application
- The complete error text
- Whether
C:WindowsSystem32httpprxm.dllexists - Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
Check the Windows version
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
winver. - Press Enter.
- Record the Windows version and build shown.
You can also open Settings > System > About and check System type.
Check whether the file exists
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter this path in the address bar:
C:WindowsSystem32
- Search for
httpprxm.dll. - Right-click it, choose Properties, and inspect the Details and Digital Signatures tabs.
A normal copy identifies Microsoft as the company and Windows as the product, with Proxy Manager as the description. A Microsoft signature is strong evidence of authenticity, but an unexpected path, missing signature, or suspicious properties require investigation rather than automatic deletion.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →On 64-bit Windows, System32 is still the normal native system directory. SysWOW64 contains 32-bit Windows components used by the Windows-on-Windows 64-bit compatibility layer. The folder names are confusing, so do not decide which copy to use based on the name alone.
Microsoft-serviced Windows 8.1 examples include version 6.3.9600.17415, with different file sizes for x86 and x64 builds. Windows 8 and Windows 10 builds have other versions. The correct version depends on your Windows build and installed updates, so a file from another machine is not a safe substitute.
Fix 1: Install Windows updates first
A pending update can contain the correct component or repair files needed by later servicing commands.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Try the application or restart sequence again.
Microsoft’s Windows Update FAQ explains the update process.

If Windows Update fails, note the displayed error and continue with DISM and SFC. Do not work around the failure by downloading httpprxm.dll.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then uses that repaired source to check and replace protected system files. Run DISM first.

Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for the operation to finish. It can remain at one percentage for a while. A successful result says the restore operation completed successfully.
Then run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent. SFC may report that it found no integrity violations, repaired corrupted files, or found corruption it could not repair. Restart Windows and test the original action again.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Microsoft’s System File Checker guidance recommends this DISM-before-SFC sequence.
If DISM says source files could not be found, use a matching Windows installation source through Microsoft’s DISM repair documentation. The source must closely match the installed Windows version. Do not point DISM at a loose DLL or an arbitrary computer.
If SFC says it could not perform the requested operation, retry from Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment and review the CBS log. Repeated repair failures can indicate disk or component-store corruption.
When repeatedly identifying the damaged component by hand becomes time-consuming, Outbyte PC Repair can show a scan of Windows issues; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and Microsoft’s DISM and SFC commands remain the supported repair path.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
A security product may have quarantined a legitimate file after a false detection, although quarantine is not established as the usual cause.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Choose Windows Security.
- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
httpprxm.dll. - Expand the entry and inspect its path, detection name, and action.
Only restore a quarantined file if it is located in the Windows system directory and its Microsoft signature can be verified. If the item is in a user-writable folder, has no trustworthy signature, or has other suspicious properties, do not restore it.
Do not disable antivirus protection merely to copy a DLL. If the file is restored and disappears again, update the security product and run a full scan. Microsoft describes these controls in its Protection History guidance.
Fix 4: Scan for malware or tampering
If the file is missing from System32, the signature is invalid, or other Windows files are changing unexpectedly:

- Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Choose Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Run a Full scan.
- If the problem remains, consider Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same screen.
After removing any threat, restart and run DISM followed by SFC again. If Windows remains compromised or repair tools cannot restore system integrity, use Windows recovery or reinstall Windows from trusted installation media. Microsoft’s Virus and threat protection guidance covers these scan options.
Fix 5: Roll back a recent update
If the error began immediately after a Windows update:
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Update history.
- Choose Uninstall updates.
- Select the recent update associated with the failure.
- Choose Uninstall, if Windows permits it.
- Restart and test again.
If the update cannot be removed, open Settings > System > Recovery and review the available recovery options. Do not remove several updates at once, because that makes the cause harder to identify.
Fix 6: Use System Restore or Windows recovery
Use System Restore when the error began after a recent software, driver, or configuration change and a restore point is available.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point dated before the problem.
- Review affected programs.
- Start the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore normally rolls back system files, drivers, and settings without removing personal files. If it is unavailable or unsuccessful, use Settings > System > Recovery and review Reset or reinstall options. Back up important files first. Microsoft lists these choices in its Windows recovery options.
Fix 7: Repair the application if only one program fails
If Windows starts normally, the file is present and signed, and only one legacy application reports the error:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset only after checking the application’s data implications.
- If neither option exists, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from the developer’s official installer.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because this filename appears. No evidence connects httpprxm.dll to a particular redistributable. If the application uses proxy or DirectAccess policies, an organization’s administrator may need to check those settings.
Drivers, Windows Features, and regsvr32
A driver update is not the primary fix for a missing Windows networking DLL. Still, if the problem began after a network adapter or security software change, check:
- Right-click Start.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the relevant adapter.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if prompted.
Do not enable or disable random Windows Features to replace this file. Features related to proxy or DirectAccess depend on the Windows edition and organizational configuration.

When several driver versions must be checked manually, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; the full version performs driver installation. It is optional, and updating a driver will not replace the supported Windows repair process for httpprxm.dll.
regsvr32 is generally irrelevant here. It is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A Windows service or networking component does not become usable merely because someone runs:
regsvr32 httpprxm.dll
Do not use that command as a routine repair step. Microsoft documents the registration model in its DllRegisterServer documentation.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Avoid downloading httpprxm.dll from generic DLL archives, forums, file mirrors, or another PC. A replacement may contain malware, target the wrong architecture, belong to a different Windows build, lack a valid Microsoft signature, or leave the damaged component store untouched.
The safe sources are Windows Update, DISM using a matching Microsoft repair source, SFC, System Restore, and Windows recovery. These methods preserve Windows servicing and architecture relationships.
FAQ
Is httpprxm.dll malware?
Not by identity. It is a genuine Microsoft Windows component. A copy found outside the normal Windows system location, with a failed signature, or with suspicious metadata should be investigated.
Is it part of a separate Proxy Manager program?
No separate application is established by the filename. “Proxy Manager” is the file description. The component belongs to Windows networking and is associated with proxy handling and DirectAccess-related functionality.
Should I copy it into SysWOW64 for a 32-bit application?
No. Let Windows repair the correct protected files. On 64-bit Windows, System32 is the native system directory and SysWOW64 serves 32-bit compatibility components.
What if SFC says it repaired files but the error remains?
Restart first, then test the same action again. If it still fails, run DISM and SFC once more, check the file’s signature and location, and determine whether only one application is affected. Capture the full error and executable name before reinstalling that application.
What information should I provide to support?
Include your Windows version and build, whether the message appears at startup or while launching an application, the complete error text, and whether C:WindowsSystem32httpprxm.dll is absent. Also report whether DISM, SFC, or Protection history found anything.
