The HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless stands out for its unusually ambitious battery-life claim: up to 300 hours on a charge, according to HyperX, under a 50% headphone-volume test condition. That is a maximum, not a promise of everyday runtime. Its 2.4 GHz USB-A adapter, dual-chamber drivers and detachable boom mic make it a PC-centered gaming headset; the key trade-offs are NGENUITY-related latency reported by RTINGS, a chat-focused microphone, and the need to confirm support for your exact console.
What the Cloud Alpha Wireless is
The Cloud Alpha Wireless (SKU 4P5D4AA) is a wireless gaming headset that connects through an included 2.4 GHz USB adapter. HyperX’s US product page lists PC compatibility. Tom’s Hardware describes it as compatible with PC, PlayStation consoles and a docked Nintendo Switch, but the cited sources do not establish Xbox support or a complete feature-by-platform matrix. Check the headset’s current compatibility details for your exact system before buying.

HyperX lists a detachable microphone, USB charging cable, pop filter and quick-start guide in the box. It also lists a two-year warranty on its US product page; warranty terms can differ by region.
How long does the battery last?
HyperX rates the headset for up to 300 hours. Its current product page says the test used 50% headphone volume and cautions that actual life varies with use. The April 2022 launch announcement gives additional conditions: a fully charged headset, a USB-connected system, 50% system volume and continuous-repeat recording. These are manufacturer test conditions, not a guarantee of how long every player will get between charges.

- Durable aluminum frame: The tough aluminum frame helps ensure that your headset can go the distance; game after game, week after week, year after year. Frequency Response: 15 Hz – 21 kHz
RTINGS describes the battery performance as one of the strongest among the wireless gaming headphones it tested. That is an independent reviewer assessment, not a separate runtime measurement presented here. HyperX lists a 4.5-hour charge time. For comparison, its official specifications also give a wireless range of up to 20 meters, subject to environmental conditions.
How does it sound, and what about latency?
HyperX specifies 50 mm dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets and a 15 Hz–21 kHz frequency response. Its dual-chamber design separates the mid and high frequencies from bass-heavy lows. Those figures and design descriptions explain the intended hardware; they do not, by themselves, establish how the headset sounds in play.

- Frequency response 15Hz–25,000 H.Headphones fit type:Over-Ear.The versatile Cloud Alpha is designed to work on PC, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and other platforms with a 3.5mm port.
- HyperX Dual Chamber Drivers for more distinction and less distortion

- Detachable braided cable with convenient in line audio control
RTINGS characterizes the default profile as relatively neutral and says it can be customized with EQ. It also warns that using NGENUITY features can bring high latency. Treat that as a caveat from its review, not a verified result for every current app or firmware version. If synchronized audio is important to you, try the headset with the software features you intend to use and check whether any added processing affects your experience.
Is the microphone good for gaming?
The boom mic detaches and includes a pop filter. HyperX describes it as noise-cancelling and Discord- and TeamSpeak-certified, positioning it for gaming communications. Tom’s Hardware finds it less capable than a dedicated gaming microphone. It may suit voice chat, but this is not the choice to make for high-quality podcast or studio recording.

Is it comfortable and well built?
HyperX lists memory-foam ear cushions with leatherette and an aluminum frame. Independent review summaries describe the headset as comfortable and well built, which supports its appeal for longer sessions. Comfort still depends on individual fit: head shape, ear-cup space and clamp feel can change how a headset wears, so those review impressions cannot guarantee a comfortable fit for everyone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a 2.4 GHz wireless headset for PC and value long intervals between charges, while understanding that 300 hours is a conditional manufacturer maximum.
- Check carefully if you plan to use a console: confirm your model’s compatibility and which features work there, rather than assuming every platform supports the same functions.
- Look elsewhere if you need a microphone for recording-quality voice work, or if you rely on NGENUITY features and cannot accept the latency concern RTINGS reports.
HyperX’s US product page lists the current specifications and included accessories, but price and stock can change. The available evidence does not establish a stable current price comparison, so check the retailer and region you intend to use.
