Hytale Update 2’s official patch notes were posted on January 24, 2026. The update’s headline addition is a skeletal-minion item—not a complete magic system—alongside revised mining progression, ore placement and a broad set of farming, customization, accessibility and server changes. Update 2 is historical: the official updates archive subsequently listed Updates 3 through 6.
When did Hytale Update 2 come out?
The Hytale Team posted “Hytale Patch Notes – Update 2” on January 24, 2026. That is the patch-notes publication date; it should not be mistaken for an upcoming release date. The official game-updates archive later listed Update 3 on February 17, Update 4 on March 26, Update 5 on May 26 and Update 6 on August 27, 2026. Update 2 is therefore not the latest numbered update as of October 8, 2026.

What does Update 2 add to magic?
The headline magic-related feature is an item that raises skeletal minions from nearby bone piles. The large Praetorian Skeleton may drop the item. The patch notes give no drop probability or minion duration, so those details are not established by the announcement.

How did Update 2 overhaul mining?
Pickaxe tiers now matter more for Adamantite
Mining Adamantite now requires a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe. Lower-tier pickaxes deal much less damage to higher-tier ore blocks, while a higher-quality pickaxe significantly reduces the number of hits needed. In practice, players should upgrade their pickaxe rather than expect a low-tier tool to mine top-tier ore efficiently.
Ore placement changed across zones
The update refactored ore placement across zones, increasing ore availability, particularly in underground areas of the Devastated Lands. If you are playing in an existing world, explore newly generated chunks to encounter the revised placement; previously explored terrain does not receive newly generated ore distribution.

What else changed in gameplay and farming?
Creatures, hides and furniture
- The Magma Toad alternates between tongue attacks and a new headbutt; its tongue attack deals less damage.
- Bison, boar, cows, horses and warthogs now drop Medium Hide instead of Light Hide.
- The furniture bench gained recipes for more decorative lights.
Petals and cloth
Petals are now craftable at the furniture bench under Textiles, and lighter Cloth Block variants can be crafted with petals. Yellow Petals can be renewed by growing Sunflower Seeds; the notes say ingredients for the different petal colors are renewable.

- Tilled soil lasts longer: the notes specify a lifetime increase to 1.2 to 1.5 days.
- Soil no longer decays beneath fully grown crops.
- You can use a torch in your offhand while using a hoe or seeds.
- Breaking mature Eternal crops returns seeds.
- You can place crops while crouching.
- Hoe costs and unlock tiers were adjusted: Copper hoes move to Tier 2, Iron to Tier 4, and Thorium hoes are added at Tier 6.
What changed in customization, the interface and accessibility?
Avatar customization and armor visibility
Customization additions include masks and mouth variants, a white fantasy-cotton cosmetic color, updated visuals for several hairstyles and improved running-cape animation. Armor slots also gained visibility toggles. Hosts can enable or disable the armor-visibility feature to suit PvP or immersion rules.

Interface and quality of life
- Editor tooltips and hotbar selection are clearer, and double-click handling is faster.
- Armor can be equipped with Shift-click when the corresponding slot is empty.
- Quick-action keybinds and an optional FPS overlay were added.
- Map and compass player markers were improved.
