Start with three quick checks
Before replacing anything, note:
- Which program reports the error: the Windows desktop, a game, or one older application.
- When it appears: at startup, when switching keyboard layouts, or while entering Japanese text.
- Your Windows architecture: open Settings > System > About and check System type for 64-bit or 32-bit Windows.
The file imjptip.dll is a real Windows component associated with Microsoft Japanese IME. If an error says it was not found, could not be loaded, or contains an error, Windows is usually failing to load part of its Japanese text-input system rather than missing a generic gaming runtime.
Start with the Windows repair steps below. Do not download an isolated copy from a DLL website.

What imjptip.dll does and where it belongs
Microsoft Japanese IME provides Japanese text input, conversion, prediction, and related language settings. imjptip.dll is one of the files used by that IME, particularly in Microsoft IME 2012 and related Windows servicing packages.
On many installations, the expected path is similar to:

On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit copy may also be present at:

The exact location depends on the Windows release, architecture, installed language features, and updates. A file in one of these Windows IME directories is more credible than an identically named file beside an unrelated game or application.
Microsoft has shipped multiple legitimate builds. Examples include 32-bit Windows 8 builds numbered 15.0.9200.16420, Windows 7-era builds beginning 10.1.7601, and later Windows builds with different version and size combinations. There is no single correct version for every computer. Architecture and Windows servicing level must match.

Microsoft’s file information for older Windows releases lists Imjptip.dll among Japanese IME files, including both x86 and x64 packages:
- Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 file information
- Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 update file list
Fix 1: Reinstall Japanese and Microsoft IME
This is the fastest and most likely fix when the Japanese language feature was removed, partially updated, or damaged.
Install or reinstall Japanese
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- Click Add a language.
- Search for Japanese.
- Select Japanese, then click Next.
- Leave the language features selected unless you have a specific reason not to install them.
- Click Install.
- Restart Windows.
After restarting, open Settings > Time & language > Language & region, select Japanese, and click Language options. Under Keyboards, confirm that Microsoft IME is installed.
Microsoft’s current instructions are documented in Microsoft Japanese IME and Language packs for Windows.
If Japanese is already installed, open its Language options page. Where Windows provides the option, remove the Microsoft IME keyboard, restart, then add Microsoft IME again. If the interface does not offer removal, reinstalling the Japanese language feature is usually cleaner than manually deleting files.

Check whether the repair worked
Press Windows key + Space and select Japanese. Open Notepad and switch between direct Latin input and Japanese Hiragana input. If the original program now starts without the loader message, the language-feature repair restored the missing component.
If the error appears only in one program, continue to the application-specific checks below even if Japanese input works elsewhere.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when reinstalling Japanese does not restore the file, Windows reports that the component is corrupt, or the error appeared after a failed update, cleanup operation, disk problem, or malware-removal process.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker because DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
DISM may require Windows Update to obtain repair files. If it reports that source files could not be found, install pending updates and retry. Microsoft’s procedure is covered in Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.
If SFC says it repaired corrupted files, restart and test Japanese IME again. If it says it found corrupt files but could not repair some of them, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. Repeated failures point toward a deeper servicing, storage, or Windows installation problem.
Running these commands manually is useful, but it can be tedious when you are repeatedly checking logs and trying to determine what changed. Fix 3: Complete Windows Update
An interrupted cumulative update can leave language files and their registration state out of sync.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart when asked.
- Return to Windows Update and check again.
- Reinstall Japanese from Settings > Time & language > Language & region if the error remains.
If Windows Update itself fails, use Microsoft’s Windows Update troubleshooting guidance. Do not manually substitute an older imjptip.dll for a newer protected Windows file.

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a legitimate system file after a false detection, especially if the error began immediately after a malware cleanup or security scan.
- Open your antivirus or Windows Security application.
- Open Protection history, Quarantine, or Threat history.
- Search for
imjptip.dll. - Check the recorded original path.
- Confirm that the path was a Windows IME directory such as
System32IMEIMEJPorSysWOW64IMEIMEJP. - If your security product provides signature or publisher information, confirm that Microsoft is listed.
- Restore the file only when both its original Windows path and Microsoft identity are clear.
- Run a full security scan.
- Restart Windows and test Japanese IME.
Do not restore a file with the same name from a download site or an application folder. If antivirus repeatedly quarantines the file, leave it quarantined and investigate the detection rather than adding a broad exclusion. A damaged or modified Windows copy may need to be restored through the Japanese language feature, DISM, or SFC.

If Japanese input works in Notepad and other Windows programs but one game or legacy application still reports imjptip.dll, the application may be requesting the wrong architecture, loading an unrelated copy, or using an outdated IME integration method.
Try these steps:
- Right-click the application shortcut and choose Open file location.
- Note the application’s installation directory.
- Check whether it contains its own
imjptip.dll. - Right-click the requesting executable, choose Properties, and inspect Digital Signatures.
- Use the application’s built-in Repair option, if available.
- Install the application’s latest official update.
- If repair is unavailable, uninstall it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it using the developer’s official installer.
- Test the program before restoring optional mods or plugins.
A copy in a game folder is not automatically genuine simply because the filename is genuine. The file’s path, signature, architecture, and the executable requesting it all matter.
For a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows, the program may interact with the 32-bit IME files under SysWOW64. Do not assume that copying the file from System32 will solve the problem. Windows handles these directories according to process architecture.
Fix 6: Check the file’s signature and location
If the file exists but Windows still reports an error:

- Right-click
imjptip.dlland select Properties. - Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the available Microsoft signature and click Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid.
- Return to the General tab and note the full path.
- Compare it with the executable or service that reports the error.
A missing file produces a different underlying condition from a corrupt or incompatible file, even though the visible message may be similar. A present file with an invalid signature, an unexpected path, or a mismatched architecture should be repaired through Windows rather than replaced manually.
If the file is in a temporary folder, a downloads folder, a game directory, or another unexpected application path, scan the system and inspect the parent program. Do not register or whitelist it merely because its filename matches a legitimate Windows file.
Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32 as a generic DLL repair
regsvr32 is often suggested for every DLL error, but it is not the correct first-line fix for imjptip.dll.
Microsoft documents regsvr32 as a utility for registering DLLs that expose the required registration functionality. It does not recreate a missing Windows component, repair the component store, replace a quarantined file, or correct a 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch.

Use regsvr32 only when documentation for a specific application or component explicitly requires it and identifies the correct architecture. For Windows Japanese IME, reinstall the language feature and use DISM and SFC instead.
Fix 8: Check storage and repair Windows installation
If DISM and SFC repeatedly fail, or the file disappears again after repair, the underlying Windows installation or storage may be unreliable.
First back up important files. Then:
- Open Event Viewer from Start.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Check System for disk, filesystem, or storage-controller errors around the time the problem occurred.
- Check your drive’s health using the storage manufacturer’s official diagnostic utility.
- Review whether antivirus is repeatedly removing the file.
- Consider System Restore if the failure began after a known software or update change.
- Consider an in-place Windows repair when system files cannot be restored by normal servicing.
Do not continue replacing individual DLLs on a system that is reporting recurring disk or component-store corruption.

What not to install
imjptip.dll is not normally a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET runtime dependency. Reinstalling those packages will not generally restore Microsoft Japanese IME.
Avoid DLL download sites sites and random file mirrors. An isolated download can contain malware, use the wrong Windows build, target the wrong architecture, lack a valid Microsoft signature, or leave the damaged language feature and component store untouched. Use Windows language installation, Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, or official Windows installation media.

Drivers and Device Manager
A display, chipset, audio, or input-device driver is not the normal cause of a missing Microsoft Japanese IME file. Device Manager will not reinstall imjptip.dll.
Only investigate drivers if the problem began alongside broader input-device failures:

- Right-click a problematic device and choose Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver changes.
Do not uninstall keyboard devices as a first response to an IME DLL error. Hunting through many driver versions manually can be slow when several devices are stale. FAQ
Is imjptip.dll legitimate?
Yes, it is a legitimate Microsoft Japanese IME file when it is in the expected Windows IME directory and has a valid Microsoft digital signature. The filename alone does not prove authenticity.
Does it belong to a game?
Primarily, it belongs to Windows Japanese IME. An application or game may trigger the loader error because it interacts with Japanese text input, but there is no universal evidence that a particular modern game requires this file. If the file is beside a program, inspect that program and its installer.
Should I copy it from another computer?
No. Builds vary by Windows release, architecture, language package, and servicing history. Copying a file from another computer can create version, signature, and dependency problems.
What if I use 32-bit Windows?
Use the language feature and Windows repair tools rather than choosing a file by size or filename. Microsoft supplies different x86 and x64 builds, and a 64-bit Windows installation may contain both native and 32-bit IME locations.
Could this be an Office IME file?
Some similarly named IME files appeared in older Microsoft IME-era packages, so the path and signature matter. Do not assume every copy belongs to the current Windows installation.
What if the error affects only one account?
Test the same program under another Windows user profile. If it works there, repair the affected profile’s language and keyboard settings before attempting system-wide file replacement.
What if every repair fails?
Back up your data, confirm storage health, check antivirus history, and consider System Restore or an in-place Windows repair. A persistent failure after DISM, SFC, updates, and Japanese IME reinstallation usually indicates a broader Windows servicing or storage issue.
