1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsimtccac.dll is a Windows component associated with Microsoft IME 2012, especially East Asian input features such as Chinese handwriting and Traditional Chinese input. If imtccac.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair Windows and the affected language component rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is a 32-bit Microsoft IME DLL. Common reported messages include:

- “The program can’t start because imtccac.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “imtccac.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading imtccac.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load imtccac.dll.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in imtccac.dll.”
- “Cannot register imtccac.dll.”
The safest repair order is:
- Identify which IME or language feature is affected.
- Repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
- Reinstall the affected language or IME.
- Check Windows Security quarantine and the file’s signature.
- Use
regsvr32only if the existing file is an IME applet that needs registration. - Escalate to System Restore or a Windows repair if system damage remains.
Before repairing: identify the affected feature
The error may appear when Windows starts an input method, handwriting panel, language bar, or text service. A game or desktop application can also trigger the message while initializing Windows text services, but that does not mean the application ships with imtccac.dll.

Also note the exact wording. “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean imtccac.dll itself is absent. Windows may be reporting that a dependency required by the DLL is missing.
1. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes, sometimes longer if Windows must obtain repair files.
This is the best first repair when the file is missing from its Windows location or several system components are damaged. Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker because DISM repairs the component source that SFC uses.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after SFC completes.
- Retry the application or IME feature that produced the error.
A successful result is a message stating that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations, or that it found and repaired corrupted files. If SFC repaired files, restart before testing again.
If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace the example source with a real repair source that matches the installed Windows edition, language, and architecture. Do not use an unrelated ISO or an arbitrary folder.
If DISM or SFC reports that it could not repair everything, run the commands again after restarting. If the same error remains, continue with the language repair below rather than copying a DLL manually.

It is optional, and reinstalling the affected Windows language remains the definitive fix when the IME package itself is missing.
2. Reinstall the affected language and IME
Time needed: 5 to 20 minutes, plus any download time.
A removed or incompletely installed language package is a common reason for IME applets to stop working.
Windows 11 and Windows 10
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, check whether the affected Chinese, Japanese, or other language is listed.
- If it is missing, select Add a language.
- Search for the required language and select Next.
- Install the relevant language features, including the keyboard or handwriting feature if offered.
- Select Install.
- Restart Windows, or sign out and sign in if Windows requests it.
- Test the input method again.
If the language is already installed but the error continues, remove and reinstall it:

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
- Select the three-dot menu next to the affected language.
- Select Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Language & region.
- Select Add a language and install the language again.
Do not remove a language that is currently your only display language unless Windows provides another route for completing setup.
On Windows 8, the documented route is Control Panel > Language > Add a language, followed by Options > Download and install language pack. The exact labels differ between Windows releases, but the goal is the same: reinstall the Microsoft language and its IME features through Windows, not from a DLL download site.
After reinstalling, run DISM and SFC again if the file still appears to be missing. A language installation can restore the package while the component store remains damaged.
3. Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes.
If the error began immediately after a security scan, Windows Security may have quarantined the IME file.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for a file named
imtccac.dll. - Expand the detection to inspect its original path and action.
- Do not restore it simply because an application requests it.
A legitimate copy should be in a Windows IME directory such as:
%windir%System32IMEIMETC10appletsIMTCCAC.dll
Later Windows installations may use:
%windir%System32IMEIMETCappletsIMTCCAC.dll
On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit system files can also be accessed through SysWOW64. Windows file-system redirection determines which copy a 32-bit process sees.
Before restoring a quarantined file, verify that its original location is under the Windows directory and check its properties:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the reported original path.
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Confirm that the signer is Microsoft and that Windows reports the signature as valid.
If the file is outside the Windows IME directories, unsigned, recently created, or detected again after restoration, leave it quarantined and run a full Microsoft Defender scan. An outside copy may be malware or an altered substitute.
4. Confirm the file location and architecture
Time needed: 5 minutes.
Public records describe imtccac.dll as a 32-bit DLL. Observed records include versions 10.1.7600.16385, 15.0.9200.16384, and 15.0.9600.16384, with sizes around 217 to 225 KB. These are reported records, not a complete list of versions that every Windows installation should contain.
Do not assume that System32 means “64-bit DLL only.” On 64-bit Windows, Windows uses redirection rules so 32-bit processes can access the appropriate system files. A 32-bit DLL cannot simply be substituted for a 64-bit module required by another process.

If the error comes from a particular application:
- Identify whether that application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Check the Windows IME path rather than placing a copy beside the application executable.
- Do not replace a protected Windows file with a similarly named download.
- If the message says a module is missing, investigate dependent DLLs as well.
Installing Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET is not the normal fix for this file. imtccac.dll is an IME component, not an ordinary runtime library.
5. Use regsvr32 only for an existing IME applet
Time needed: 5 minutes.
regsvr32 is not a general-purpose missing-DLL repair command. It applies only when the DLL exists and exposes the registration entry points that regsvr32 uses.
Use it only when:
imtccac.dllis already present in the expected IME directory;- the problem is that an IME applet, such as a handwriting feature, does not appear or work;
- you are using the actual path for that Windows installation.
For an older IME path, an administrator Command Prompt may use:
regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32IMEIMETC10appletsIMTCCAC.dll
Replace C:Windows if Windows is installed on another drive or under another directory.
If registration succeeds, Windows displays a success message. Restart Windows and test the affected IME. If regsvr32 reports that the module could not be loaded, the file may be missing, a dependency may be missing, or the wrong architecture-specific regsvr32 is being used.
Do not run this command against a random downloaded DLL. Do not use it when the file is genuinely absent. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit and 64-bit registration tools are different, and file-system redirection can affect the path being accessed.
6. Check Windows optional features and input devices
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes.
Windows Features is not normally where the IME DLL itself is repaired, but optional language-related components can affect the feature you are trying to use.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review enabled features related to language, handwriting, or text services.
- Do not enable unrelated features as a substitute for reinstalling the language package.
- Select OK only after identifying a relevant feature.
- Restart if Windows requests it.
If the problem concerns a physical keyboard, touchscreen, or handwriting device rather than the language package:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards, Human Interface Devices, or the relevant device category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test again.
A device driver will not normally restore imtccac.dll, so use Device Manager only when the input hardware is also malfunctioning.
When several input devices have stale drivers, manually checking each hardware category can be repetitive. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; its free scan shows what is outdated, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the Windows IME when the DLL or language package is damaged.
7. Escalate if Windows remains damaged
Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the repair method.
If DISM, SFC, and language reinstallation all fail:
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Restart and repeat the language installation.
- Check whether other Windows components are also failing.
- Use System Restore if a suitable restore point exists.
- Perform an in-place Windows repair while keeping personal files and applications, where supported.
- Back up important data before resetting or reinstalling Windows.
If only one application still reports the message after Windows repair, inspect that application’s exact executable architecture and dependency chain. The application may be triggering a Windows text service error rather than directly containing or requiring its own copy of imtccac.dll.
Why imtccac.dll errors happen
The most likely causes are:
| Cause | Appropriate response |
|---|---|
| Damaged Windows IME component | Run DISM, then SFC, and reinstall the language |
| Language or IME removed incompletely | Add the language again through Windows Settings |
| Antivirus quarantine | Inspect Protection history and verify path and signature |
| Windows Update or component-store corruption | Install updates, then repeat DISM and SFC |
| Wrong architecture or manual replacement | Restore the Windows-supplied copy and avoid substitutions |
| Malware or altered file | Scan the system and investigate files outside Windows directories |
| Wider system damage | Use System Restore, in-place repair, or reset Windows |
There is no authoritative standalone Microsoft download that should be used as a replacement for this file. Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong version, or the wrong architecture, and copying the file may leave the underlying language package or dependency problem untouched.
FAQ
Is imtccac.dll part of Windows?
Yes. It is associated with Microsoft IME 2012 and Windows input-method components, particularly East Asian language features.
Is it a Visual C++ or DirectX file?
No. Installing those runtimes is not the normal solution for an IME DLL error.
Does every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation contain it?
Not necessarily. Its presence depends on the installed Windows build and language or IME components. Do not treat one observed version or file size as a requirement for every computer.
Is imtccac.dll 32-bit?
Public file records identify it as a 32-bit DLL. On 64-bit Windows, Windows’ redirection rules determine how a 32-bit process accesses the file.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I copy it into an application folder?
No. Restore the Windows component through DISM, SFC, or language reinstallation. A copy outside the Windows IME directories deserves verification.
Does regsvr32 fix the error?
Only sometimes. It can help when the existing IME applet needs registration, but it cannot repair a missing file or a missing dependency.
What if Windows says the file is missing but it is visible?
The message may refer to a dependent DLL, an architecture mismatch, or a damaged registration rather than the file itself. Repair Windows first and inspect the application’s exact error context.
