imtccore.dll is a Windows component used by the Traditional Chinese Input Method Editor, not a general-purpose game or Visual C++ runtime. If Windows says imtccore.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, restore the Traditional Chinese language component first, then repair Windows if necessary.

Microsoft security-update file lists include Imtccore.dll in older Windows releases, including Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The file is therefore best repaired through Windows language features and system servicing rather than by downloading an isolated DLL.
On 64-bit Windows, the usual locations are:

Older Windows builds may use an IMETC10 directory. System32 normally contains 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit files on 64-bit Windows. Do not swap files between these directories.

Fix 1: Reinstall Traditional Chinese basic typing
This is the safest first repair because it restores the component through Windows rather than copying a file from an unknown source.

- Open Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, select Add a language.
- Search for Chinese (Traditional).
- Select the appropriate Traditional Chinese entry and choose Next.
- Leave Basic typing selected under language features.
- Select Install.
- Restart Windows after the installation completes.
If Chinese (Traditional) is already listed, select its three-dot menu and choose Language options. Under Language features, remove the relevant basic-typing feature if Windows allows it, restart, and add it again.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & Language.
- Select Language.
- Select Add a preferred language.
- Search for Chinese (Traditional).
- Select it and choose Next.
- Install the basic typing feature.
- Restart Windows.
Test the program that showed the error. If the dialog no longer appears, the repair worked. You can remove the Traditional Chinese language entry later if you do not need it, but removing it may remove the component again.
If Settings cannot download the feature, use the administrator command in the next section.

Use this when Settings fails to install the language feature.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Language.Basic~~~zh-TW~0.0.1.0
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program again.
A successful operation reports that the capability was added or that the operation completed successfully. If DISM reports that source files cannot be found, the command did not repair the file. The source must match your Windows image. An offline computer may need matching Features on Demand media or installation media.
Do not use an old Windows package merely because its file version resembles the missing file. Windows releases have different component versions, and current cumulative updates supersede historical packages.
Fix 3: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
If reinstalling the language component does not help, repair the Windows component store and protected system files. Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.

- Right-click Start.
- Open Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait until the command completes.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the source Windows uses for component recovery. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies.
Possible SFC results include:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: SFC found no damaged protected files.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test the program.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: run DISM again, restart, and run SFC a second time.
- Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service: restart Windows and repeat the command from an elevated terminal.
Running these commands repeatedly without checking what changed is tedious, especially when the underlying language capability is missing. It is optional, and the Microsoft DISM and SFC commands remain the supported manual route.
Fix 4: Install pending Windows updates
An incomplete language-pack or Windows servicing operation can leave the IME files out of sync.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Return to Windows Update and check again until no additional updates are offered.
- Reinstall the Traditional Chinese basic-typing feature if it is still absent.
Do not search for a historical update solely because an old file catalog lists a similar version. The correct package depends on your Windows release and build.

If Windows Update itself fails, record the error code, restart the update-related repair steps, and use the matching Windows recovery or installation source rather than installing an isolated DLL.
Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a system file after a detection or a damaged servicing event. A false positive is possible, but restoring a quarantined file without verifying it can put the computer at risk.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
imtccore.dll. - Expand the event and check the original file path.
- Restore the file only if it was located in the expected Windows IME directory and Windows identifies it as a Microsoft system file.
- Run a fresh scan afterward.
- Reinstall the language component and run SFC if the file remains unavailable.
If the quarantined file was beside a game or application executable, do not assume it was the genuine Windows component. Repair or reinstall the owning program from its official installer instead.
Fix 6: Check architecture and the path named in the error
A 32-bit and a 64-bit copy are not interchangeable. On 64-bit Windows:
System32is normally the 64-bit system directory.SysWOW64is normally the 32-bit system directory.
A 32-bit program can use the 32-bit copy under SysWOW64. A 64-bit program generally needs the 64-bit copy under System32. Never copy a 32-bit catalog version into System32, and do not replace a Windows-serviced file with a version taken from another Windows release.
To inspect the file without modifying it:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
%windir%System32IME
- Check for an
IMETCor olderIMETC10directory. - Repeat with:
%windir%SysWOW64IME
- Right-click a candidate file, select Properties, and inspect Digital Signatures.
The complete path in the error dialog matters. If the dialog names a program folder rather than a Windows IME folder, the program may be requesting its own copy or may have a missing dependency.
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that imtccore.dll itself is absent. Windows error 126 can also occur when a dependency required by the named DLL is unavailable. That is why SFC and component repair are preferable to copying the named file.

Fix 7: Repair the application that shows the error
If Windows’ own IME files are present and SFC reports no corruption, focus on the program named in the dialog.

- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair, then Reset only if Repair does not help.
- If those options are unavailable, uninstall the program.
- Download its current installer from the developer’s official source.
- Install it again and restart Windows.
For a launcher-managed game, use its built-in Verify integrity or equivalent repair command before reinstalling the entire game.
Do not start by reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Those packages are not the normal owner of imtccore.dll.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after a cleanup utility, update, language removal, antivirus action, or failed uninstall, System Restore may return the affected Windows configuration to an earlier state.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the result.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove drivers, applications, and updates installed after the selected restore point. If no suitable restore point exists, continue with Windows Recovery or an in-place repair.

Downloading imtccore.dll from a DLL collection site is risky because the file may contain malware, belong to a different Windows build, use the wrong architecture, or lack the dependencies Windows expects. Placing a downloaded DLL beside an executable can also exploit normal DLL search order and cause the program to load an unintended copy.
The safe sources are Windows Settings, Windows Update, DISM, SFC, matching Features on Demand media, System Restore, and official Microsoft installation media.

regsvr32 is also not the normal repair for this problem. That command is intended for DLLs that support COM self-registration through DllRegisterServer. Some builds may technically expose relevant exports, but Microsoft does not provide a supported instruction to manually register ImTcCore.dll. Registering it will not replace a missing language component or repair a damaged dependency.
When to use Windows Recovery or an in-place repair
Escalate when all of these have failed:
- Reinstalling Chinese (Traditional) basic typing
- Adding
Language.Basic~~~zh-TW~0.0.1.0 - DISM component repair
- SFC
- Windows Update
- Antivirus review
- System Restore
- Repairing the affected application
Back up important data first. Then use Windows Recovery or a matching Windows installation source. An in-place Windows repair can rebuild system components while preserving supported personal data and applications, provided the edition and installation media match the existing Windows installation.
If the program still fails afterward, record the exact error text, Windows version and build, full path shown in the dialog, whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, recent updates, and whether Traditional Chinese is installed. Those details distinguish a missing IME component from an application-specific dependency failure.
FAQ
Is imtccore.dll a Microsoft file?
Yes. It is a Windows Traditional Chinese IME component. Older Microsoft update file lists identify it as Imtccore.dll.
Do I need Chinese input enabled?
Not necessarily. The component may remain installed because of a language pack, regional setting, older installation, or another Windows servicing action. You can remove the language later, but that may remove the component again.
Should I copy the file from SysWOW64 to System32?
No. The directories serve different architectures. Use Windows servicing to restore the correct copy.

Why does the file exist but Windows still report it as missing?
The named file may have a missing dependency, be damaged, be the wrong architecture, or be outside the path expected by the program. Error 126 can describe a missing dependency.
Will reinstalling a game fix it?
Only if the game owns the damaged file or its installation is corrupt. If the error appears across several programs, repair Windows input components first.
Should I use Device Manager?
No. imtccore.dll is not normally a device-driver problem. Device Manager is relevant only when separate hardware or driver symptoms point to an unrelated issue.
