In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the dependable route through In Vino Veritas is to give Havel the answers Germany, Steinberger, and “It’s missing ginger,” then retrieve the Sulphur Wicks from the vineyard’s central building and take them back to Casper Rudolf in Kuttenberg. Adleta’s wine book and five Wine Seedlings are optional; the seedlings may affect your payment, but guides disagree on the total reward.
Start In Vino Veritas in Kuttenberg
Speak to Casper Rudolf, just north of the fountain in Kuttenberg. Agree to investigate why the wine from Sedletz Monastery is better than his competitor’s. The quest’s unlock timing is not consistent across guides: PowerPyx lists completing Main Quest 14, “Speak of the Devil,” while Gamer Guides lists “The Sword and the Quill”; KCD2.org describes it more generally as becoming available once the story reaches Kuttenberg. If Casper is not there, continue the Kuttenberg story and check again. PowerPyx, Gamer Guides, and KCD2.org differ on this prerequisite.

Optional: get Adleta’s wine book
You do not need Adleta’s book to finish the quest. Sir Bushek’s Vintner Wisdom can help prepare for the conversation with Havel. Go to the garden in Kuttenberg and speak with Adleta; one described route is to offer friendship and bring five Marigolds for her garland. PowerPyx also describes dealing with Hugo at the entrance or using an alternate way into the garden. Once you have the book, read it from your inventory before visiting Havel. PowerPyx’s walkthrough and KCD2.org’s guide treat the book as preparation, not a required quest item.
What are the correct Havel answers?
Find Havel at the Emperor Charles Tavern in northern Kuttenberg. For the straightforward answer chain, choose:

- Germany
- Steinberger
- “It’s missing ginger.”
KCD2.org also reports these valid country-and-wine pairings: France with Avignon, or Italy with Vin Santo. The final “missing ginger” answer is the key clue in the recommended route. The tasting includes drinking checks that can affect reputation, according to PowerPyx; the answers above are the guide-reported route to the secret. PowerPyx, Gamer Guides, and KCD2.org cover the conversation.
Report to Casper and reach the vineyard
Return to Casper with what you learned from Havel. The vineyard is north of Kuttenberg. Taking the vineyard job can make access to the central building less likely to count as entering a private area while you are working, but it does not make every restricted spot safe to enter. The cellar and the yard where the seedlings grow still carry theft or trespass risk.
You do not have to complete Under the Straw Hat to finish In Vino Veritas. The work task is associated with taking the job, but PowerPyx and KCD2.org describe it as unnecessary for completing this quest. PowerPyx and KCD2.org both distinguish the optional work route from the required investigation.

The wicks are the required evidence for the core quest. In the vineyard, enter the central building, pass through the kitchen, and pick the Medium locked door. The crate in the room beyond contains the Sulphur Wicks. Guides also spell the item “Sulfer wicks”; it refers to the same quest evidence. Return the wicks to Casper to complete the main objective. PowerPyx, Gamer Guides, and KCD2.org describe the location and lock.

Optional: collect five Wine Seedlings
If you want to pursue the optional payment, collect five Wine Seedlings from the closed-off yard before your final return to Casper. PowerPyx places them in the garden on the right when facing the two gardens. The yard is restricted, so avoid being seen while taking them. Bring all five to Casper as part of your turn-in; do not assume the seedlings are needed to complete the investigation. PowerPyx and KCD2.org identify this as an optional objective.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why guides list different rewards
The published totals do not line up, and the guides do not resolve whether the difference comes from quest branches, interim payments, or how each guide counts rewards. PowerPyx lists 205 Groschen plus the Life in the Tavern IV book, or 425 Groschen if five seedlings are returned. Gamer Guides lists a 55-Groschen interim payment after the Havel portion and 425 Groschen for turning in the wicks. KCD2.org warns that totals vary with dialogue, interim payments, and optional goals. Treat the exact amount as route- and accounting-dependent rather than a guaranteed universal total. See PowerPyx, Gamer Guides, and KCD2.org for their reported figures.
