Yes. Infinity Ward has begun enforcement against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ accounts that intentionally abuse item-duplication glitches and other exploits. The official Call of Duty Updates account said on October 2026 that duplication glitches violate the game’s Terms of Service and that action would begin against accounts found exploiting them. Infinity Ward’s October 25 launch patch notes also say the update “Closed various DMZ exploits.” However, neither the studio nor Activision has published a number of sanctioned accounts or the exact duplication method, so players cannot infer a specific ban wave size or determine from public information whether every past incident received the same penalty.
Is Infinity Ward banning people for DMZ duplication glitches?
Infinity Ward says it is enforcing against accounts that intentionally exploit DMZ item-duplication issues. The official Call of Duty Updates account stated: “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 | DMZ Item duplication glitches and the intentional abuse of exploits violate our Terms of Service. We’re beginning to take enforcement action against accounts found exploiting these issues.” That is an official enforcement announcement, not a community rumor.

The statement does not identify a total number of accounts, a start-and-end date for the action, or a single penalty applied to everyone. It also does not publish the duplication sequence, which means reproducing a glitch is not necessary to understand the policy risk and could expose an account to further action.
Did the MW4 patch fix the DMZ duplication exploit?
Infinity Ward’s official Modern Warfare 4 launch patch notes, dated October 25, 2026, say the update closed various DMZ exploits. The notes do not say that every possible duplication route was eliminated, nor do they identify which exploit produced each fix.

What the October 24 patch section changed
The October 24 section describes work focused on stability, bug fixes, exploit resolution and quality-of-life improvements. Listed DMZ corrections include closing an out-of-bounds Forward Operating Base issue, correcting objective-marker behavior, fixing an exfiltration-helicopter disappearance bug and closing various exploits.
“Closed various DMZ exploits” confirms technical remediation in that update, while the enforcement announcement concerns player accounts. A patch can remove a known method without automatically deciding how every account is treated; account action is handled through security and enforcement systems.
What happens if I used a DMZ item dupe?
Activision’s Security and Enforcement Policy defines glitching as abusing an exploit in game code or another established rule of play. Intentional duplication therefore falls within the policy’s stated scope even if no third-party program or modified game files were involved.
Possible sanctions
The policy allows penalties ranging from temporary bans to termination of the player’s license. Active enforcements are tied to the Activision account and applied across all devices linked to that account, so switching platforms does not necessarily avoid an account-level sanction.
- A temporary ban can prevent access for a defined period.
- More serious or repeated conduct can lead to longer restrictions.
- License termination is the most severe outcome described in the policy and can remove the right to use the game under that account.
The policy does not provide a public formula that maps a particular number of duplicated items to a particular sanction. It also does not establish that every player who encountered a bug unintentionally will be treated as an intentional exploiter; the public wording targets deliberate abuse.

How can Activision detect DMZ exploit abuse?
Activision says its RICOCHET Anti-Cheat systems use multiple signals rather than relying on one detector. The policy describes client- and server-side detection, monitoring of applications running during gameplay, behavioral-anomaly models and hardware validation. Reports from other players may also support an enforcement decision.

Players who encounter a bug should stop repeating it, avoid distributing duplicated items and use the game’s official reporting channels instead of testing whether the exploit still works.
Why does duplication matter more in DMZ?
Xbox Wire describes DMZ as Modern Warfare 4’s extraction-shooter mode with persistent inventory, an upgradable Forward Operating Base and stations that help players build loadouts and weapons. Persistent items carry value between sessions, so duplicating them can affect progression and the mode’s item economy. Public sources do not quantify the size of that effect, but the persistence mechanics explain why Infinity Ward treats intentional duplication as more than a harmless visual bug.
Modern Warfare 4 and DMZ availability
Modern Warfare 4 and DMZ became available on October 23, 2026. Xbox Wire lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and cloud, Battle.net, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 among the supported platforms. Enforcement is still account-centered under Activision’s policy, regardless of which listed device a player uses.
What is confirmed, and what remains unknown?
| Response stage | Authority | Action | Timing | Certainty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public warning | Official Call of Duty Updates account | Declared item duplication and intentional exploit abuse a Terms-of-Service violation; announced enforcement | October 2026 announcement | Confirmed |
| Technical remediation | Infinity Ward launch patch notes | Closed various DMZ exploits and listed specific bug fixes | October 25, 2026 notes, with an October 24 section | Confirmed for the listed fixes; full exploit coverage not stated |
| Account sanctions | Activision Security and Enforcement Policy | Permits temporary bans through license termination and applies active enforcement across linked devices | Policy framework; individual timing not disclosed | Confirmed policy authority; case outcomes unresolved |
No published source gives a sanctioned-account count, identifies every affected exploit or says whether an appeal will reverse a particular action. Treat social-media lists of alleged bans as unverified unless Activision confirms them.

What should DMZ players do now?
- Stop using any duplication sequence or other repeatable exploit, even if it still appears to function after the October 25 update.
- Do not transfer, sell or otherwise distribute items obtained through a suspected dupe.
- Record the circumstances of an accidental bug encounter without deliberately reproducing it.
- Use official in-game or Activision reporting options to describe the issue.
- If access is restricted, review the notice on the affected Activision account and follow the stated support or appeal process; creating another account may not restore access to the sanctioned license.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still play DMZ after an exploit enforcement action?
It depends on the sanction attached to the Activision account. A temporary restriction may end after its stated period, while license termination can permanently remove access under the policy; the public announcement does not provide a universal duration.
Does accidentally triggering a DMZ bug guarantee a ban?
No public statement says that every accidental encounter receives the same penalty. The enforcement announcement specifically addresses intentional exploit abuse, but Activision does not publish the evidence threshold used in individual cases.
Will changing platforms avoid a DMZ sanction?
Not necessarily. Activision says active enforcements are tied to the Activision account and implemented across all devices linked to it, so moving from console to PC or another supported platform may not remove the restriction.
How many players were banned for the DMZ duplication glitch?
No official number has been published. The Call of Duty Updates announcement confirms enforcement began, but it gives neither a count nor a breakdown by platform, exploit or sanction type.
