inZOI is worth buying now if you want a photorealistic, open-city life simulator and accept Early Access bugs, changing systems, and demanding PC hardware. At $39.99 USD, the Windows and Apple-silicon Mac versions include every DLC released during Early Access, including the Island Getaway resort. The stronger reasons to wait are equally clear: PlayStation 5 is not due until the first half of 2027, Xbox availability is unconfirmed, and the finished 1.0 version has no announced date. Steam users currently rate the game Mostly Positive overall (79% of 14,602 English reviews) and Very Positive in recent reviews (82% of 430, accessed October 29, 2026), but that is an Early Access signal, not a finished-game verdict.

What is inZOI?
inZOI is KRAFTON’s open-world life simulator, developed by inZOI Studio under director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim and built in Unreal Engine 5. You play an intern at the fictional AR Company, supervising virtual people called Zois. Instead of loading separate residential lots, you can move through persistent cities, drive, work, attend school, visit businesses and reshape the environment.

The playable version is still Early Access. Steam lists the Windows release as March 27, 2025 (some references show March 28 because of time zones), while the Apple-silicon Mac version arrived August 20, 2025. KRAFTON has not announced a 1.0 date. Steam’s Early Access FAQ says the game would be improved for at least a year, while warning that the roadmap could change as player feedback influences development.
Its central appeal is visual and spatial: realistic faces, layered clothing, seamless city travel and a city editor that can alter the look and behavior of a neighborhood. Its central risk is that the simulation is still being filled in. Early launch criticism described a beautiful but sterile world; later updates added families, businesses, careers, nightlife and school systems, but the product remains unfinished by design.

Is inZOI worth buying right now?
Buy it now if character creation, construction, photography, city dressing and exploring a realistic virtual city matter as much as spontaneous comedy. Wait if you need a finished 1.0, play only on consoles, have a weak graphics processor and do not want cloud streaming, or mainly want the broad humor and chaotic autonomy associated with The Sims.
Buy now when these statements describe you
- You have a Windows 10/11 PC meeting at least the published RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT 6 GB requirement, or an Apple-silicon Mac.
- You enjoy sculpting a character, designing homes and neighborhoods, and directing stories rather than relying entirely on emergent comedy.
- You prefer one $39.99 Early Access purchase and free Early Access DLC to a large catalogue of paid expansion packs.
- You are comfortable with patches, balance changes, bugs and systems that may be redesigned before 1.0.
- You want an active mod and sharing ecosystem: Canvas requires a KRAFTON ID, and the official ModKit now supports Lua script mods.
Wait when these statements describe you
- You own only a PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo console. PS5 is planned for the first half of 2027; Xbox Series X|S remains under consideration rather than confirmed.
- You want a complete product with a settled feature set and no Early Access qualification.
- Your favorite life-sim moments come from absurd humor and unpredictable autonomous behavior more than realism and visual control.
- Your PC is below the minimum GPU class and you do not want to use GeForce NOW with your Steam purchase.
Which platforms support inZOI?
The game is currently a PC-and-Mac product. Console plans are real but separated from the Early Access release.

The PS5 date supersedes older fan-wiki references that still said 2026. In July 2026, the official inZOI account said the team needed more time to reach the quality required for a console environment. The studio also said it did not want to recreate the PC version one-to-one; the PS5 edition is intended to feel natural with gamepad controls and console-specific presentation.
How much does inZOI cost, and what do you get?
The Early Access list price is $39.99 USD on Steam and the Mac App Store, checked November 2026. Steam describes that figure as a discounted Early Access price, so the price after 1.0 is not guaranteed to remain the same. KRAFTON has not published a post-launch price.
Every DLC release during Early Access has been free to owners. That includes Island Getaway, which added Cahaya, a Bali-inspired resort destination, on August 20, 2025. The free-DLC policy is a major value difference from a life-sim model built around separately priced expansion packs; it does not establish what future post-1.0 DLC will cost.
A KRAFTON ID is mandatory on PC. Canvas sharing and other online-connected features therefore require an account even though the core purchase is made through Steam or the Mac App Store.

What can you do in inZOI?
Explore persistent cities
Dowon is a dense metropolis inspired by Seoul. Bliss Bay draws on Santa Monica’s coastal setting. Cahaya, formerly called Kucingku, is the resort island introduced with Island Getaway. Cahaya initially functioned as a destination to visit and travel to rather than a fully equivalent third residential move-in city. The studio has discussed additional worlds inspired by Asia, Europe and Oceania, but those plans do not have a guaranteed delivery schedule.
Direct control and point-and-click control are both available, including vehicles. The city editor can change weather, plants, animals and billboards without the traditional lot-by-lot approach. “Stability” sliders let you tune how frequently fights, romance and accidents occur, giving builders a way to make a neighborhood calmer or more volatile.
Create a Zoi
Steam advertises more than 250 customization options covering hair, skin, physique, outfits, accessories and nail art. The editor also supports facial sculpting, asymmetry, layered clothing, patterns and AI-assisted textures. You can choose a Desired Life and Ambitions, then shape a character’s behavior through traits, values and preferences.
The character system has changed substantially since launch. GameSpot described the March 2025 release as having 18 fixed personality types, alongside concerns about body diversity and limited representation of Black hairstyles. Later versions introduced a stack consisting of one Trait (18 choices that can shift over time), up to two Characteristics (16 choices), ten Values that drift with behavior, and Preferences. The Trait change was documented in June 2026, while Characteristics arrived in October 2025. These are versioned systems, not guarantees that the final 1.0 design will be identical.
Run lives, families and institutions
Zois have eight needs: hunger, hygiene, bathroom, fun, social, energy, sleep and recognition. The default day length was reduced from 96 minutes to 48 minutes in version 0.4.0 on October 30, 2025. Careers, school, relationships, families, businesses, crime, trials, death and ghosts are all part of the current feature set.
High school became playable in version 0.9.0 (June 19, 2026). Version 0.7.0 (March 26, 2026) added calendars, birthdays, movie theaters, flower shops, Memories and custom keybinds. Version 0.5.0 (December 23, 2025) added businesses, crime, trials and multitasking. Playable ghosts and funerals arrived with the personality rework in version 0.4.0; that update also removed Karma, so launch-era descriptions of a Karma-based afterlife are outdated.

Build, share and mod
Build mode combines modular architecture with a furniture maker. The official ModKit, distributed through the Epic Games Store since June 13, 2025, covers outfits, furniture, hair and skin, architecture, translations, animations, faces and MetaHuman assets. CurseForge supports in-game mod installation, and Lua script mods were added in version 0.11.0 on October 15, 2026. The latest listed hotfix is version 0.11.2, dated October 29, 2026, with separate Windows and Mac build numbers.
Canvas is the sharing layer for Zois, designs and other creations. It requires a KRAFTON ID. Mod support is powerful for an Early Access game, but community content can break when the underlying game changes; keep a clean save or disable a recently added script when troubleshooting.

The feature timeline explains why a launch review can sound very different from a 2026 recommendation:
- v0.2.0, June 13, 2025: adoption, ModKit, cheats and flexible gender identity.
- v0.3.0, August 20, 2025: Mac support, Cahaya, swimming, fishing, farming, mining and loans.
- v0.4.0, October 30, 2025: playable ghosts, funerals, personality rework, removal of Karma and shorter default days.
- v0.5.0, December 23, 2025: businesses, crime, trials and multitasking.
- v0.7.0, March 26, 2026: calendars, birthdays, cinemas, flower shops, Memories and custom keybinds.
- v0.8.0, April 29, 2026: career rebuild, freelance work and Unreal Engine 5.6.
- v0.9.0, June 19, 2026: playable high school and Intel Iris Xe support.
- v0.11.0, October 15, 2026: Lua script mods in ModKit.
- v0.11.2, October 29, 2026: current listed Windows and Mac hotfix builds.
This cadence is a reason to buy for players who like following development, but a reason to wait for anyone who dislikes relearning systems after major patches.
What are the inZOI PC and Mac requirements?
The published Steam requirements are demanding, particularly for a life simulator. The minimum GPU is in the RTX 2060/RX 5600 XT class, not an entry-level integrated chip.

Macworld’s October 2025 guidance was more conservative than the Steam minimum: it recommended at least an M2, macOS Sonoma, 16 GB of memory and an SSD for smooth play, with M2 Pro or M3 Pro hardware for the highest detail. Treat that as reviewer guidance rather than a replacement for the current Steam table.

Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics became supported in June 2026, and Unreal Engine 5.6 added a Performance Safeguard. Those changes broaden compatibility but do not turn a low-power laptop into a high-detail machine. AI Build has a higher target of an RTX 3000 GPU with 8 GB or an RX 6000 GPU with 12 GB.
How does inZOI compare with The Sims 4?
The choice is less about a single “Sims killer” verdict than about which design trade-offs you value.

Choose inZOI for scale, realism, construction and current-generation presentation. Choose The Sims 4 if the priority is a settled ecosystem, its particular humor, or a lower hardware barrier. Owning both is reasonable if you want a stable sandbox and an evolving open-world alternative rather than expecting one to replace every strength of the other.

Launch-era criticism and current user sentiment describe different stages of the project. Jessica Cogswell’s GameSpot review on March 20, 2025 called inZOI “gorgeous, innovative, and brimming with potential” but “not particularly fun right now,” and described a sterility and lifelessness that was difficult to overlook. Gaming.net scored the game 6/10 in an April 2025 review that still treated it as unfinished; the page was updated in April 2026 but retains its launch-era perspective.
Macworld’s October 14, 2025 review was more favorable for Apple users, calling inZOI a technically and playfully successful alternative with strong freedom and Mac support, while noting bugs, weak performance on less capable Macs and confusing tutorials. At the one-year mark, Sims Community’s account of the anniversary build described family play, businesses, nightlife, calendars and social systems as filling in much of the “beautifully decorated, but empty, movie set” problem that Kjun himself had quoted from a user.
Steam’s October 29, 2026 figures are the freshest broad signal: 79% of 14,602 English reviews are positive overall, categorized as Mostly Positive, and 82% of 430 recent reviews are positive, categorized as Very Positive. Those percentages do not mean the game is universally acclaimed or complete. They indicate that the substantial update history has improved the reception compared with the launch snapshot.

Launch interest was substantial: KRAFTON-published reporting cited more than one million copies sold in the first Early Access week in 2025; the game reached Steam’s Global Top Sellers list within 40 minutes, peaked at 87,377 concurrent Steam players and drew 175,000 concurrent Twitch viewers. Those are launch milestones, not a current player-count guarantee. A July 17, 2026 snapshot listed a 24-hour peak of 1,772, illustrating why launch visibility should not be used as a live-population estimate.
How should you decide before paying?
- Check your platform. If you need PS5, wait for the first half of 2027. If you need Xbox, there is no confirmed release to buy toward.
- Check your hardware. Compare your Windows GPU, RAM and storage with the Steam minimum. On Mac, verify that the processor is Apple silicon and that macOS Sequoia 15.0 is available.
- Decide whether Early Access is acceptable. Expect patches, changed systems and occasional bugs; there is no announced 1.0 date.
- Choose your preferred fantasy. Pick inZOI for realistic cities, deep visual customization and building. Stay with The Sims 4 if its humor, autonomy and mature content catalogue are the main attraction.
- Price the whole ownership period. The current $39.99 purchase includes Early Access DLC, but the post-1.0 price and future DLC policy are not published.
- Use the cloud fallback only if it suits you. GeForce NOW can avoid a local GPU upgrade, but you still need to own the Steam version and need a reliable broadband connection.
Bottom line: buy, wait, or skip?
Buy inZOI now if you are a PC or Apple-silicon Mac player who values photorealistic character creation, open-city exploration and building enough to tolerate an evolving simulation. The $39.99 Early Access price and free Early Access DLC make the current package unusually straightforward to evaluate. Wait if you are console-only, want a finished 1.0, or need the specific comic unpredictability that defines The Sims. inZOI is a promising and increasingly substantial alternative, not a finished replacement for every kind of life-sim player.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do some listings give March 27 and others March 28, 2025?
Steam lists March 27, 2025 for the Windows release. References that show March 28 are reflecting the local-time conversion around launch, so “late March 2025” avoids implying two separate releases.
Will the PS5 version launch with the same features as the PC build?
Not necessarily. The studio says it does not want a one-to-one recreation of the PC version and is designing a console-suited build with gamepad and DualSense considerations. It is also skipping PlayStation Early Access rather than releasing the unfinished PC build on console.
Can I play the Mac version if I bought inZOI on Windows Steam?
Yes. Existing Windows Steam owners can access the Apple-silicon Mac version without purchasing a second copy. Intel Macs are not supported, and the published Mac requirements call for an M1 processor or newer.
Is the Karma system still in inZOI?
No. Karma appeared in launch-era descriptions, but version 0.4.0 removed it while adding playable ghosts and funerals. Older reviews and wiki pages can therefore describe a system that is no longer part of the current build.

Canvas requires a KRAFTON ID, and a KRAFTON ID is mandatory on PC. The official ModKit is a separate creator tool with support for assets and, since October 2026, Lua script mods; community content can need maintenance after major game updates.
