Verdict: The Iqunix EZ63 HE’s reported firmware update fixed a major usability weakness by adding onboard profiles, profile shortcuts, easier SOCD control, and an experimental 0.005 mm Rapid Trigger setting. That makes it a much more credible Wooting alternative, but it does not prove that the EZ63 is faster or better overall. Wooting still has the advantage in software maturity, documentation, support, and ecosystem depth.
Why the EZ63 needed the update
The EZ63 already offered the hardware many competitive keyboard buyers want: Hall-effect switches, adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger, SOCD-related controls, an aluminum case, and a compact layout with dedicated arrow keys. Its biggest weakness was the software experience.

Before the update, switching between an aggressive gaming setup and a sensible typing setup was inconvenient. A very short actuation point and highly sensitive Rapid Trigger can help with rapid movement in competitive games, but they can also cause accidental inputs while writing or using the desktop. Without practical onboard profiles, owners had to reconfigure those settings manually.

It added three profiles and hardware shortcuts, making the EZ63 less dependent on a single gaming-oriented configuration. However, the release was described as beta firmware rather than a confirmed final stable release.

What the firmware update added
| Feature | How it works | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Custom profile | User-defined actuation and Rapid Trigger settings | Settings depend on the owner’s configuration |
| Office profile | 1.5 mm actuation with Rapid Trigger disabled | Designed for more predictable everyday use |
| Esports profile | 0.5 mm actuation with Rapid Trigger enabled on WASD at 0.05 mm sensitivity | Primarily aimed at competitive movement |
| Profile shortcuts | Fn + O for Office, Fn + P for Esports, and Fn + I for Custom |
Onboard switching is the practical improvement |
| SOCD shortcut | Fn + Q toggles SOCD |
WASD RGB feedback temporarily indicates the state |
| Berserk Mode | Advertised 0.005 mm Rapid Trigger sensitivity after actuation | Reported as experimental and limited to Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro switches |
The update also reset the keyboard map and other custom settings, according to the original coverage. Some interface elements were not translated into English, and macro functionality remained unfinished.
Why onboard profiles matter
Profiles are more than a convenience feature on a Hall-effect keyboard. They let a player use one configuration for a fast-paced shooter, another for ordinary typing, and a third for personal preferences without repeatedly changing actuation points and Rapid Trigger behavior.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The predefined modes are also easy to understand. Office mode uses a relatively conventional 1.5 mm actuation point and disables Rapid Trigger. Esports mode lowers actuation to 0.5 mm and enables Rapid Trigger on WASD. Custom mode leaves the user in control.
That is a meaningful improvement over a keyboard that requires manual reconfiguration. It still appears less flexible than a mature profile system, however. Wooting’s documentation describes onboard profiles and up to four stored profiles on the 60HE+, while the EZ63’s reported update added three profiles with partly predefined behavior. Wooting’s profile documentation provides the relevant comparison.

What Berserk Mode really means
Berserk Mode is the most attention-grabbing part of the update. IQUNIX advertised a 0.005 mm Rapid Trigger sensitivity after the actuation point when the keyboard is fitted with Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro switches.
That number should not be read as proof of a universal 0.005 mm end-to-end input advantage. It is a configuration sensitivity value describing how far a key may move after actuation before Rapid Trigger responds. Real-world behavior also depends on switch consistency, calibration, firmware processing, USB polling, the game’s input handling, and the player’s chosen settings.
A smaller value is not automatically better. Extremely sensitive Rapid Trigger behavior can cause unintended activations, especially during typing or when a player rests lightly on the keys. It may also make movement feel inconsistent if the setting is too aggressive for the user’s technique.
The reported implementation was still being polished and was specifically tied to Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro switches. Buyers should not assume that every EZ63 switch variant supports Berserk Mode, nor should they treat the feature as evidence that the EZ63 has surpassed Wooting.
Does the EZ63 now beat Wooting?
Not on the evidence available. The update improves feature coverage; it does not establish overall performance parity or superiority.

Feature parity
The EZ63 moved closer to Wooting by adding the features that make a Hall-effect keyboard practical for multiple types of use:
- Onboard profiles
- Hardware profile-switching shortcuts
- More accessible SOCD control
- More aggressive Rapid Trigger tuning
Those changes address genuine usability gaps. They do not demonstrate lower latency, better release behavior, more consistent calibration, or superior competitive performance.
Independent testing
Tom’s Hardware found the EZ63’s construction and performance impressive, while also noting that some software functions were poorly explained and that some keys lacked useful default mappings. Its review supports the view that the EZ63 is highly competitive, not that it universally defeats Wooting.
RTINGS was more restrained, reporting that the EZ60/EZ63 did not clearly edge out the Wooting 80HE and that Wooting’s software remained more refined. That testing is a useful reminder that a firmware feature list cannot substitute for controlled performance testing.
Early manufacturer or event demonstrations involving Wooting hardware can provide context, but they are not the same as repeatable independent testing. Firmware versions, test methods, switch variants, polling settings, and calibration can all affect results.

EZ63 versus Wooting 60HE+
The 60HE+ is the closest comparison for buyers seeking a compact competitive keyboard. The EZ63’s main layout advantage is its dedicated arrow keys, which are useful for everyday work and navigation. The Wooting 60HE+ counters with lower listed pricing, mature Wootility software, extensive documentation, and an established competitive-gaming ecosystem.
EZ63 versus Wooting 60HE v2
The 60HE v2 is a newer and more relevant comparison than the original 60HE. Wooting lists an 8 kHz polling rate for the 60HE v2, with pricing of $179.99 for the plastic prebuilt model and $239.99 for the aluminum version. That makes the EZ63 particularly interesting for buyers who want aluminum construction and arrow keys without paying the 60HE v2 aluminum price.
The layouts remain fundamentally different. A high polling-rate figure should not be transferred from the 60HE v2 to every Wooting model or to the EZ63, and benchmark results from one board should not be treated as directly interchangeable with another.
EZ63 versus Wooting 80HE
The 80HE is a larger keyboard with a different layout, so it is not a direct physical substitute for the EZ63. It may still appear in performance comparisons, but buyers should compare intended use and layout before comparing latency figures.

How to approach the firmware update
IQUNIX says its EZ software is intended for the Tri-mode PCB and requires a wired connection to a Windows PC. Use the official EZ configurator, not an unofficial mirror.
- Connect the keyboard by USB to a Windows computer.
- Confirm that your board uses the supported Tri-mode PCB.
- Photograph or record key mappings, actuation points, Rapid Trigger settings, RGB settings, and profiles.
- Open the official configurator and check whether it presents a firmware update for your keyboard.
- Do not disconnect the keyboard while firmware is being written.
- After the update, recheck the key map and custom settings, since the reported beta update reset them.
- Recalibrate or test keys if the configurator requests it.
The available documentation does not provide a verified current stable-release recovery command or universal key combination. If the keyboard becomes unresponsive, stop repeating the flash and contact IQUNIX support rather than trying unverified recovery steps.
Important ownership cautions
SOCD is not automatically permitted
The Fn + Q shortcut makes SOCD easier to toggle, but it does not make the feature legal or acceptable everywhere. Individual games, tournaments, and anti-cheat policies may restrict SOCD-style input behavior. Check the rules for the specific game and competition before using it.

The EZ63 does have configuration software, but it is browser-based rather than a conventional downloadable desktop application. That can be convenient, while also creating practical questions about browser compatibility, future support, offline access, and whether settings can be exported. The safe conclusion is that configuration depends on access to the web tool; the available evidence does not establish that the keyboard becomes unusable without internet access.
Check the default mapping
Tom’s Hardware reported that some keys were not mapped by default and that parts of the software were poorly explained. Buyers should distinguish between a physical-layout issue, the factory key map, and a configurator issue. If the keyboard will also serve as a daily driver, confirm that its layers and missing defaults fit your workflow.
Who should buy the EZ63?
Choose the EZ63 if:
- You want dedicated arrow keys in a compact keyboard.
- You value an aluminum case and distinctive design.
- You like the available switch options or typing feel.
- You want adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger, SOCD controls, and onboard profiles around the $179 price point.
- You are comfortable with a browser-based configurator and less mature documentation.
Choose Wooting if:
- Software polish and clear documentation are top priorities.
- You want a well-established competitive-gaming ecosystem.
- You value Wooting’s advertised four-year warranty and lifetime support.
- You prefer the 60HE+ or 60HE v2 layout.
- You want greater confidence that firmware changes and workflows will be clearly documented.
Check before buying either one:
- Whether your game permits SOCD or similar features.
- Whether the desired switch variant is included or costs extra.
- Whether the keyboard is available in your region.
- Whether your operating system and browser support the configurator.
- Whether you need Mac or Linux configuration support.
- Whether arrow keys, function layers, default mappings, or the lack of a standard tilt-adjustment mechanism matter to you.
Final assessment
The EZ63 firmware update was a meaningful correction, not a marketing footnote. Profiles and hardware shortcuts make the keyboard substantially easier to use for both competitive gaming and everyday typing, while the new Rapid Trigger options narrow the feature gap with Wooting.
But “closer to Wooting” is the accurate conclusion. The reported beta update does not prove that the EZ63 delivers better real-world performance, and Berserk Mode’s 0.005 mm figure is a switch-dependent configuration claim rather than a guaranteed competitive advantage. With its arrow-key layout, aluminum construction, and distinctive design, the EZ63 is a credible alternative for the right buyer. Wooting remains the safer choice for software maturity, support, documentation, and ecosystem confidence.
