Yes. Arma Reforger supports cross-play between PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 when the server enables crossplay. The important limitation is hosting: in-game player-hosted (listen) servers are available only on PC. Xbox and PS5 players can join compatible official, community or dedicated servers, but they cannot start the in-game player-hosted server themselves. For a persistent mixed-platform community, use a dedicated server and set game.crossPlatform to true.
Is Arma Reforger crossplay between PC, Xbox and PS5?
Bohemia Interactive’s support documentation states that Arma Reforger supports cross-play between PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5, provided cross-play is enabled on the server. Crossplay is therefore a server-side permission rather than a guarantee that every server in the browser accepts every platform.

Which platforms can play together?
- Windows PC players can join compatible Xbox and PlayStation 5 players.
- Xbox players can join compatible PC and PlayStation 5 players.
- PlayStation 5 players can join compatible PC and Xbox players.
A server can still be restricted by its platform settings, visibility, region, ping rules, version, mods or network status. If a friend cannot see or join a server, platform support is only the first check.
What crossplay does not transfer
Crossplay connects players to the same session; it does not create shared progression. Progress, mods and saved data remain platform-specific, and progress or saves cannot currently be transferred between PC and Xbox. Treat each platform account as a separate game environment even when both accounts join the same battle.

Can Xbox or PS5 players host an Arma Reforger server?
No. Bohemia Interactive’s server-hosting documentation says, “Player-hosting is only available on PC.” The Boot Camp guidance likewise describes server hosting as exclusive to PC players. A console can join a server, but it cannot start the in-game player-hosted session.

On PC, open Multiplayer > Host > Host new server. This is the quickest choice for a short private match: the host launches the game and the hosted session at the same time. Because the host’s game and server share the same machine, the session ends when that host stops hosting or leaves.
Dedicated server
A dedicated server runs the server process without a local game instance. You can run it on a separate Windows or Linux machine, or rent a server from a third-party provider. This arrangement is better for a persistent community, scheduled events, larger groups and server-side administration. Console players can join it as long as its configuration and network access allow their platform.
Official or community server
If nobody in the group wants to manage infrastructure, use the in-game server browser to find an official or community server that permits your platform. The list shown to each player can differ because of platform filters, region, ping limits, visibility settings, version and required mods.

For a one-evening match with a few friends, PC player-hosting avoids server administration. For a regular PC–Xbox–PS5 group, a dedicated server avoids tying the session to one player’s game and gives you predictable configuration control.

How do I enable PC, Xbox and PS5 crossplay in the server configuration?
In a dedicated-server JSON configuration, set game.crossPlatform to true. The official configuration reference recommends using crossPlatform by itself and leaving supportedPlatforms undefined. That is the straightforward all-platform setting.
Recommended all-platform setting

JSON is strict: use double quotes around property names, commas between properties, and no trailing comma after the final property.
Explicit platform lists
The alternative is an explicit supported-platform list using the identifiers documented by Bohemia Interactive: PLATFORM_PC for PC, PLATFORM_XBL for Xbox and PLATFORM_PSN for PlayStation. An explicit list gives the operator granular control, but it is easier to make a mistake or omit a platform accidentally. If your goal is PC, Xbox and PS5 access, the recommended crossPlatform: true setting avoids that accidental restriction.
Apply the change safely
- Stop the dedicated-server process before editing its JSON file.
- Back up the current configuration so you can restore a known-good file.
- Set
game.crossPlatformtotrueand remove an old restrictive platform list unless you intentionally need it. - Validate the JSON syntax and save the file in the path used by your launch command.
- Restart the server and have one player from each target platform check the listing and join.
How do I set up an Arma Reforger dedicated server?
A dedicated setup has four parts: install the server files, launch the process with a configuration and profile path, expose the required network port, and define the game rules in JSON. The exact package and panel steps vary by operating system, but the official Linux example uses separate install and startup scripts, a configuration path, a profile path and a frame-rate limit.

1. Install or update the server with SteamCMD
Use SteamCMD to install the dedicated-server files on the machine that will run them. Keep the install directory separate from your profile and configuration directories so updates do not overwrite administrative data. Update the server whenever the game branch changes; clients on a different branch or version may be unable to connect.

2. Launch the server process
Start ArmaReforgerServer with the JSON configuration and profile paths used by your installation. The documented Linux example also starts the process with -maxFPS 60, which limits server simulation rate instead of allowing an unrestricted frame rate.

Keep the process running for the server to remain available, and arrange a service or restart script if you need automatic recovery after a reboot.
3. Open the documented UDP ports

These are the documented Arma Reforger server ports. Allow the game port through the host operating system’s firewall, and open the optional query or RCON ports only when you use the corresponding features. Exposing an unused administrative port increases the attack surface without helping players connect.

4. Forward the game port on a home router
Bohemia Interactive’s hosting guidance states that a hosted server needs port forwarding to be visible from outside the local network, such as from the internet. Create a UDP forwarding rule for port 2001 from the router to the server machine’s local IP address. Reserve that local address with a DHCP reservation or static assignment so the rule does not point to a different device after a reboot.
Port forwarding is not needed for players who are all on the same local network, but internet players will generally fail to discover or join a home server without it. Carrier-grade NAT or an ISP firewall can prevent inbound connections even when the router rule is correct; in that case, use a reachable server machine or a provider that supplies public inbound connectivity.

5. Define the game and administration settings
Your JSON can specify the scenario, maximum players, visibility, admin credentials, BattlEye and the required mod list. The documented maxPlayers range is 1–128, with a default of 64. Choose a cap your hardware and connection can sustain rather than assuming the maximum is appropriate for every scenario.

How do console players find and join a PC server?
Console players join through the normal server browser; they do not need to run the dedicated process themselves. Discovery depends on the server being visible, allowing the player’s platform and passing the browser’s filters.
- Update the game on every platform and confirm that everyone is on the same branch or version.
- Open the multiplayer server browser.
- Clear restrictive filters temporarily, including platform, region, ping, full-server and mod filters.
- Search for the server name or sort by ping and player count.
- Confirm that the server is configured for crossplay and that any required mods are available to the joining platform.
- Join, allow required add-ons to download and activate, and then restore preferred filters after the server appears.
A server can be online yet absent from one player’s list if that player has a platform or region filter enabled, exceeds the server’s ping limit, or is on a different version. Compare the browser settings on the affected device before changing server files.

Yes, a server can declare required mods in its configuration so clients download and activate them when joining. Mods are nevertheless a practical crossplay constraint: console storage and performance limits can differ from PC, and a heavily modded collection may be unsuitable for one of the console platforms even when crossPlatform is enabled.

Use a conservative mod policy
- Declare only the mods required for the scenario or server rules.
- Remove abandoned or duplicate versions before inviting console players.
- Keep the mod list stable during an event so every client downloads the same requirements.
- When a console player cannot join, compare the required add-ons first instead of assuming the platform flag is wrong.
The server’s platform setting and its mod requirements are separate checks. A server can correctly permit PC, Xbox and PS5 while a missing, incompatible or resource-heavy add-on still blocks a particular client.
Why can’t my friend see or join the server?
Work through the checks below in order. Bohemia Interactive identifies version mismatches, mod requirements, firewalls, connection stability and server performance as common causes, and the browser adds its own visibility and filter conditions.
The server is invisible to everyone outside the host’s network
- Confirm the server process is running and listening on UDP 2001.
- Allow UDP 2001 through the host firewall.
- Forward UDP 2001 from the router to the server machine’s current local IP.
- Check whether the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound connections.
PC players can join, but Xbox or PS5 players cannot
- Verify
game.crossPlatformistrue, or that the explicit list includesPLATFORM_XBLandPLATFORM_PSNas appropriate. - Remove an old restrictive

One player cannot see a server that others can
- Clear platform, region, ping, full-server and mod filters on that player’s browser.
- Compare the player’s region and connection quality with the server’s restrictions.
- Restart the game after an update or mod change so the browser refreshes its session state.
Players connect but are disconnected during play
- Check connection stability on both the affected client and the server machine.
- Watch server performance and reduce the player cap or mod load if the machine cannot sustain the scenario.
- Confirm that the dedicated process is not being stopped by a scheduled restart, crash or resource limit.
Does Arma Reforger crossplay include cross-progression?
No. Crossplay is a multiplayer-connection feature, not an account or save-transfer system. Progress, mods and saved data remain tied to their platform, and PC and Xbox progress cannot currently be transferred between one another. Plan a platform change as a new progression path even if you continue playing with the same friends.
What is the simplest reliable setup for a mixed-platform group?
For occasional matches, have a PC player use Multiplayer > Host > Host new server. For a group that plays regularly, run a dedicated server, set game.crossPlatform to true, use UDP 2001 for game traffic, forward that port when hosting at home, and keep the initial mod list small. Can I use a third-party provider for an Arma Reforger crossplay server?
Yes. Bohemia Interactive’s hosting documentation allows dedicated servers supplied by third-party providers. Before choosing one, verify that its panel exposes the crossplay setting, supports your required mods, offers a region close to your players and provides the backup, restart and network controls your group needs.
Does the server need a copy of the game open for players to connect?
A dedicated server does not require a local game session running alongside it; it runs the server process separately. A PC player-hosted session is different because the host is running the game and hosting the session on that same machine.
What does the optional RCON port do?
UDP 19999 is the documented optional RCON port for remote-console administration. You only need to expose it when RCON is configured; ordinary players joining the game use the public game port instead.
Why might a console have trouble with a large mod pack even when crossplay is enabled?
Console mod storage and performance limits can differ from PC. A server can therefore be correctly configured for all platforms while a particular mod collection remains impractical or fails to load on a console client.
