VIZ’s catalog describes Boruto: Naruto Next Generations as the story of “Boruto Uzumaki, son of Seventh Hokage Naruto Uzumaki.” It credits Masashi Kishimoto for creation and supervision, Mikio Ikemoto for art, and Ukyo Kodachi for script. VIZ lists the Boruto anime releases and Two Blue Vortex manga volumes in the same catalog, but they remain different products and release tracks.
How the story flows from Naruto to Two Blue Vortex
1. Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden
Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden establish the villages, ninja systems, historical conflicts and relationships that the later series assumes. Naruto’s rise from young ninja to Seventh Hokage provides the political backdrop for the next generation. Characters such as Sasuke, Sakura and Kakashi also carry their histories into the sequel era.
2. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations shifts the viewpoint to Naruto’s son and his classmates. The anime adapts the first major portion of the Boruto story and develops the events that lead to Part 2.
3. Two Blue Vortex
Two Blue Vortex begins after Part 1’s later developments and its time-skip setup. It is therefore best understood as Boruto Part 2, not as “Naruto Part 3.” The title continues unresolved character relationships, changes in the world’s status quo and the consequences of Part 1’s ending. Starting here without that context can make motivations and identities difficult to follow.

Is Two Blue Vortex a sequel to the Naruto anime?
It is a sequel to the broader Naruto story, but calling it a direct sequel to the Naruto anime is imprecise. The immediate predecessor is Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and Two Blue Vortex is currently published as manga. The original anime continuity leads into the Boruto anime; the Two Blue Vortex manga then continues the narrative beyond the material currently represented by that anime catalog.
This distinction matters because “connected” can mean two different things:
- Canon connection: yes. The title uses the same world, history and characters and follows the established Boruto chronology.
- Anime-format connection: not yet as a separately cataloged television or streaming season. The official anime listing checked on October 19, 2026 contains Naruto, Naruto: Shippuden and Boruto – Naruto Next Generations, while Two Blue Vortex appears in the comics/manga context.
Do you need to watch Boruto before reading Two Blue Vortex?
You need the Part 1 story, but you do not necessarily need to watch every anime episode. The minimum useful preparation is a reliable understanding of how Boruto: Naruto Next Generations ends, especially the events that create the time-skip situation. Readers who have completed the Boruto manga can move directly into Part 2. Anime-only viewers should use a recap or read the corresponding manga material before opening Two Blue Vortex.
Watching all of Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden first gives the richest context for Naruto, Sasuke and the village system, but the immediate plot prerequisites come from Boruto Part 1. If you skip the original series, expect references to earlier relationships and conflicts that the sequel treats as established history.

Recommended order for a new viewer
- Watch or read Naruto. This introduces Naruto, the hidden villages and the central generation.
- Continue with Naruto: Shippuden. It covers Naruto’s development, the Fourth Great Ninja War and the transition toward the era in which he becomes Hokage.
- Watch or read Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Follow Boruto’s academy years and the Part 1 conflicts through their ending.
- Begin Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Start with manga volume 1 or the opening chapter rather than assuming an anime episode exists.
A reader who wants the shortest route can read a dependable summary of Naruto and Boruto Part 1, then begin the Part 2 manga. That saves time but gives up the character development and world-building that make later callbacks meaningful.

Does Two Blue Vortex continue the Boruto anime?
It continues the same underlying story, but the currently available products should not be treated as consecutive episodes. The Boruto anime is one adaptation track, while Two Blue Vortex is the manga’s Part 2 track. An anime viewer may therefore reach the end of the listed Boruto episodes and find that the next canonical material is available in print or digital manga form rather than under a new episode title.

Current publication status
The NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE reported that Volume 9 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex went on sale on October 2, 2026. It also described the manga as being serialized in V Jump. Those details establish an active manga publication at that date, not an anime launch window.
For readers who need a Part 1 refresher, the official site described Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Story Guide: Before the Reversal as a 596-page guide focused mainly on the manga and tracing the journey to Part 2. It can help bridge the gap for someone who remembers the broad outline but not the sequence of events. Retail stock, language editions and regional release dates must be checked locally.

Naruto is essential to the setting and to Boruto’s identity, but the sequel is not structured as a new Naruto-led adventure. Boruto’s decisions, rivalries and altered circumstances drive Part 2. Naruto’s position as the Seventh Hokage and Boruto’s status as his son explain why the older generation remains important even when the narrative focus moves elsewhere.
Sasuke is another major bridge between eras. An official Ikemoto Q&A explains a continuity detail in which Boruto calls Sasuke “Master” after Sasuke goes rogue from the village with him. That relationship illustrates how Two Blue Vortex relies on developments established in Boruto, while also extending character roles inherited from Naruto. Readers who want to avoid spoilers should treat that detail as a Part 1 plot point.

Common misunderstandings and how to avoid them
“It is a new Naruto anime season.”
No. The title is a manga continuation under the Boruto name. The official anime catalog does not currently present it as a separate Naruto season.
“Naruto is the protagonist again.”
No. Naruto’s history is the foundation, but Boruto is the central character of the sequel story.
“I can start with Volume 1 without any preparation.”
You can physically start there, but comprehension is better after Part 1. The opening assumes knowledge of the time-skip setup and the relationships that produced it.

A manga publication and an anime adaptation are separate announcements. The existence of Volume 9 and ongoing V Jump serialization does not establish a premiere date.
Choosing between anime and manga
- Choose the anime route if you prefer voice acting, music, motion and a guided presentation of the earlier story. Stop at the available Boruto material and verify official announcements before expecting Part 2 episodes.
- Choose the manga route if you want the most direct path into the current continuation. Read or recap Boruto Part 1, then begin Two Blue Vortex from its first volume or chapter.
- Use both if you want the anime’s performances for Naruto-era and Part 1 material, followed by the manga’s latest continuation. Keep your place by matching chapter and episode summaries carefully, since the two formats do not advance in identical units.
Bottom line for anime-only fans
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is canonically connected to Naruto through the same shinobi universe and the continuing Boruto storyline. Its immediate position is Part 2 of the Boruto manga, after Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and its time-skip setup. Finish or recap Part 1 before reading, and regard any anime adaptation as unconfirmed until the official catalog or a new announcement lists one.
