Yes—Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is officially supported on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. You must install the current game update, and online battles also require the paid network service for your platform. PlayStation matches pair PS4 with PS5; Xbox matches pair Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S, but battles do not cross between PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC families.
The wording “new Demon Slayer update” can also mean the Infinity Castle anime film rather than a game patch. The sections below identify which release each rule concerns, so you can check compatibility without confusing a console update with a streaming release.

First, identify which Demon Slayer release you mean
Hinokami Chronicles 2 game updates
SEGA’s current platform listing is for Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2. It includes PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. The publisher’s announcement archive records several separate maintenance entries rather than one unnamed, universal “new update.”
- Version 1.61 bug fixes: March 24, 2026.
- Version 1.80 bug fixes and adjustments: June 3, 2026.
- Battle-balance adjustments: February 13 and July 10, 2026.
- Free Muzan Kibutsuji update: announced September 16, 2025.
Those dates are archive entries from SEGA. The archive does not give one rollout hour that applies to every storefront, so a version may appear at a different local time on your console or in Steam.

The original Hinokami Chronicles FAQ
The original game’s official FAQ supplies the clearest online-play rule. SEGA states, “the latest patch is required to complete the free update.” It separately states, “the latest patch is required to access online play along with a paid subscription to your platform’s network service.” These requirements concern the original title’s free post-launch updates and online functionality, but they are the practical baseline whenever the game client asks you to patch before connecting.
Infinity Castle I film release
If you mean the anime rather than a game update, this is a film-access question. The official anime site schedules Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle I for Crunchyroll outside Japan and mainland China from July 28, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PT. The listed program includes Japanese audio with English subtitles, an English dub and additional language options. Digital purchase is listed through Apple TV, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube and Fandango in selected territories. Film availability is separate from whether a console or PC can run a Hinokami Chronicles game patch.

For a store search, use the exact game name Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2. That wording helps distinguish the sequel from the original game and from the Infinity Castle film.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
- Confirm that the installed title is the Hinokami Chronicles game you intend to update, not a different Demon Slayer application.
- Connect the console to the internet and check the game’s update/download queue.
- Install the latest patch offered by the console before starting the free post-launch content or attempting an online battle.
- For online play, sign in to the PlayStation account with the platform’s paid online service active.
- After installation, relaunch the game and verify that the title reaches its main menu without a pending-update prompt.
PS4 and PS5 users can play together within the PlayStation family when the game and account meet the online requirements. A PS5 player cannot use that matchmaking pool to battle Xbox, Switch or Steam players.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
- Open the Xbox game library and check the title’s update status while the console is online.
- Allow the latest game data to download and finish installing before launching online modes.
- Sign in with an account that has the required Xbox online subscription for multiplayer.
- Restart the game if it was open during the download, then try the intended online mode again.
Cross-generation play is supported between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. That does not create cross-play with PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or Steam.
Nintendo Switch
- Connect the Switch to the internet and check for the game’s current update data.
- Let the update finish before opening online functions.
- Confirm that the Nintendo account being used has Nintendo Switch Online when the mode requires online access.
- Launch the game again after installation and test the online menu.
The Japanese official FAQ lists the Switch version as scheduled for June 9, 2022. That historical date identifies the Switch edition’s original schedule; it is not a replacement for installing the current update data.
Steam on PC
- Open Steam while connected to the internet and let the client complete any pending download for Hinokami Chronicles 2.
- Wait for the game build to finish updating before launching it.
- Read the current in-client or store notice for online requirements and matchmaking, because the console subscription rules do not automatically describe Steam.
- Restart the game after an update and confirm that the online menu is available.
SEGA identifies Steam as a supported platform, but the supplied official material does not state a single PC subscription rule or promise cross-platform matchmaking. Use the notice displayed for your region and current build rather than assuming that console rules apply.

The patch is not optional for the free update
The original SEGA FAQ makes the latest patch a prerequisite for completing the free update. If the game reports that content is unavailable, an incomplete download or an outdated build is the first condition to correct. A successful purchase or ownership check alone does not satisfy the patch requirement.

Online access has two separate checks
Online play requires both a current game build and the paid network service for the relevant console platform, according to the original FAQ. On Switch, the official Switch FAQ specifically names Nintendo Switch Online for online functions. On PlayStation and Xbox, use the corresponding paid service tied to your console account. Steam’s exact online terms can differ, so read its current client or store notice.
Matchmaking stays inside platform families
The official FAQ describes two cross-generation groups: PlayStation 4 with PlayStation 5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. It does not describe a single pool spanning all supported systems. Therefore, buying the same game on two different platform families does not by itself allow those accounts to battle each other.
What the 2026 version history tells you
The archive’s dated entries are useful when a friend reports a different version number or when a store has not yet displayed a new build:

The sequence does not establish that every platform received each entry at exactly the same clock time. Storefront publishing can lag the publisher’s announcement, and the archive provides no universal rollout hour. If your version number differs, finish the platform’s pending update process and check the official archive entry for the relevant title.

Physical, digital and regional availability
Download pricing is changing on different dates
The Demon Slayer official portal published a “Download-version and download-card price revision notice” on October 8, 2026. It scheduled the Steam price change for October 13, 2026 at 02:00 and the PS5, PS4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch changes for October 29, 2026 at 00:00. The notice warns that an individual store may apply the change later than the planned time.
These are download-version and download-card timing notices. They are not a universal statement of physical-retail pricing. Check the live price in your own regional storefront before purchasing; do not rely on a price shown in an older article, screenshot or listing.
Edition bonuses can differ
The Japanese official FAQ notes that platform editions can differ in bonus avatars, themes and dynamic-theme availability. Those extras are edition-specific; they do not change the supported-platform list. Check the product description for your region if a bonus matters to your purchase decision.

Regional film access is narrower than game compatibility
The Infinity Castle I announcement specifies Crunchyroll availability worldwide except Japan and mainland China from July 28, 2026. Digital purchase is offered only in selected territories through the services named by the anime site. A game being supported on your hardware does not guarantee that the film is available through the same account, store or service in your country.

Troubleshooting when the update does not appear
- Wrong title: Check whether you launched the original Hinokami Chronicles, Hinokami Chronicles 2 or a film application. Their update notices are not interchangeable.
- Download still pending: Leave the console or Steam client online until the update completes, then relaunch the game.
- Online mode remains locked: Verify both conditions: the latest patch and the platform’s paid online service. On Switch, specifically check Nintendo Switch Online.
- Friend cannot be found: Confirm that you are in the same platform family. PS4 and PS5 can pair; Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S can pair. The official FAQ does not establish cross-family battles.
- Different version numbers: Compare the number with the dated SEGA archive entry and allow for storefront rollout timing rather than assuming the other player has an unsupported edition.
- Price differs from a listing: Open your own regional store. The October 2026 notice allows stores to apply scheduled price revisions later than the stated time.
- Film cannot be streamed: Check whether your territory is outside the stated Crunchyroll exception and whether the digital-purchase service is one of those listed for your region.
A quick decision guide
You want to play the game online
Choose the supported edition for your hardware, install its current patch, and activate the relevant paid console network service. Match with players in the same platform family: PlayStation with PlayStation, or Xbox with Xbox.
You want the free post-launch game content
Use the game’s update process first. The official FAQ requires the latest patch to complete the free update, so ownership without the current build is insufficient.
You want to watch Infinity Castle I
Use the anime release information, not the game’s patch history. From July 28, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. PT, Crunchyroll is listed outside Japan and mainland China, with digital purchase in selected territories through Apple TV, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube and Fandango.

PS4 and PS5 share an online family, as do Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The supported-platform list includes both generations, while edition bonuses, storefront pricing and rollout timing can vary by platform and region.
