What the Steam listing confirms right now
DIEATHLON is a single-player action-racing game from Long Void Games, published by Loopr Partners. Steam says, “This game is not yet available on Steam,” and currently shows a Q4 2026 release window. That means there is no retail build whose Deck behavior can be evaluated as final.

The published PC requirements are explicitly provisional. Steam currently lists 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 4 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 570, DirectX 12 and 4 GB of storage. The developer says final specifications will be confirmed closer to release. A desktop minimum specification is not a promise that the game will run well through Proton on a Steam Deck.

Valve uses four public labels: Verified, Playable, Unsupported and Unknown. Unknown means the title has not yet been checked. It is not a prediction that the game is broken, and it is not evidence that the game runs acceptably.

Valve’s review looks beyond whether a controller can move the character. Its checklist covers physical-control support, a default configuration that reaches all content, correct controller glyphs, a playable default experience at 30 fps and 800p, the absence of compatibility warnings, and Proton support where required. A title can therefore have “Full Controller Support” on its store page and still need a manual layout, show incorrect button prompts or fail another part of the Deck review.
Until DIEATHLON receives a final badge, the most defensible description is “potentially playable in some builds,” not “Steam Deck Verified.”
How fast does DIEATHLON run on Steam Deck?
There is no controlled, repeatable Deck benchmark for the final game. The available evidence comes from player reports made against different development builds and settings, and those reports conflict substantially.

The difference between approximately 5 fps and approximately 30 fps is too large to collapse into a single “average.” It may reflect engine changes, a new build, resolution settings or different scenes, but the reports do not establish which factor is responsible. The downhill sections are especially important because racing games can feel smooth on a straight run and still suffer disruptive frame-time spikes when scenery and speed increase.
No published source establishes battery life, sustained frame pacing, a repeatable graphics preset, a verified resolution scale or a final-build frame-rate target. It would be misleading to promise 30 fps, a particular runtime or a specific performance setting before launch.
Does DIEATHLON support Steam Deck controls?
The store page’s “Full Controller Support” and Xbox-controller entries are encouraging for basic gamepad input. They do not answer several Deck-specific questions:

- Whether the default Steam Input layout maps every action correctly.
- Whether menus, key rebinding and any launcher can be navigated without a keyboard or touchscreen.
- Whether on-screen prompts use the correct Deck or Xbox glyphs.
- Whether every gameplay and accessibility function is reachable with physical controls.
- Whether the game switches cleanly between handheld controls, a docked controller and a mouse or keyboard.
Valve’s checklist treats those details as part of compatibility. A game can accept controller input in gameplay while still requiring a custom layout for menus or displaying the wrong button labels. Because the title is unreleased and Unknown, there is no official confirmation that its default configuration satisfies those requirements.

If a demo is available through Steam for your account, it can be installed on a Deck like any other Steam title. The demo’s behavior should be treated as a snapshot of that build, not as a guarantee for the Q4 2026 release.
- Open the DIEATHLON store page or your Steam Library on the Deck and confirm that the demo is available to your account.
- Select Install and choose the Deck’s internal storage or an installed microSD card with at least the listed storage available.
- Launch the demo in the default compatibility mode first. Record the build number shown in the title screen or properties if one is provided.
- Test a complete session rather than only the opening area: drive through a fast downhill section, open every relevant menu and pause, resume and restart a race.
- Check whether the prompts match the buttons you press, whether a resolution or scaling option exists, and whether the frame rate remains stable after several minutes.
- If the game is unusable, exit normally and note the scene, settings and whether the problem is low average fps, hitching, missing input or a crash. That information is more useful than a single fps counter reading.
A demo may have different assets, effects, optimization and controller code from the release build. Conversely, a later build can improve performance without changing the store badge immediately. Avoid treating either outcome as a final verdict.

What to try if the demo performs badly
If the frame rate is near 5 fps
- Open the game’s video options and select a lower resolution or resolution scale if available. The early report specifically noted that resolution controls were initially missing, so confirm that the option exists in the build you are testing.
- Use the lowest available preset and disable expensive effects before changing multiple variables at once.
- Restart the game after changing graphics settings; some engines apply renderer changes only after a restart.
- Check whether the problem occurs in menus, ordinary driving and downhill scenes. A universal slowdown suggests a broad compatibility or build issue, while a scene-specific drop points to rendering or streaming load.
If the counter says 30 fps but the game still feels uneven
- Look for short freezes or large frame-time spikes rather than relying on the headline fps number.
- Repeat the same downhill route to see whether the hitch occurs consistently in the same location.
- Keep the Deck’s performance settings unchanged while testing; switching refresh rate, frame limit and power settings at the same time makes the result difficult to interpret.
- Report the build, resolution, preset and scene when describing the issue. “30 fps with downhill spikes” is more actionable than “it lags.”
If controls or menus do not work
- Open the Steam Input controller layout and select a community or official layout only if the default one cannot reach an action.
- Check for a keyboard-only launcher or first-run prompt; the touchscreen or an external keyboard may be needed temporarily.
- Verify that button prompts correspond to the physical buttons. Incorrect glyphs can make an otherwise functional layout confusing.
- Do not assume a custom layout proves official Deck support. It is a workaround until the developer ships a compatible default configuration.
How the provisional PC requirements relate to a Deck
The listed GTX 1060/RX 570 class minimum and DirectX 12 requirement describe the developer’s current Windows target. Steam Deck uses a different AMD-based system and normally runs Windows-targeted games through Proton. Consequently, matching or exceeding a desktop requirement on paper does not establish equivalent performance on Deck.
The 4 GB RAM listing is also a minimum for the PC build, not a recommended Deck allocation. The operating system, Proton and background services share the handheld’s memory with the game. Storage is less concerning for this title’s currently listed 4 GB requirement, but updates and shader data can require additional free space.

What should change before DIEATHLON becomes a reliable Deck recommendation?
A final recommendation should wait for evidence that covers the whole experience, not just a launch-screen frame rate. The most useful checks are:

Should you buy DIEATHLON for Steam Deck now?
If Deck compatibility is your deciding factor, waiting is the rational choice. The title is not released, its official badge is Unknown, controller behavior has not been independently confirmed, and performance reports range from approximately 5 fps to roughly 30 fps with reported spikes.
Trying a free demo, if one is available to you, is reasonable when you are comfortable judging an unfinished build and potentially applying manual settings. Buying or pre-ordering on the assumption that the demo’s best result represents the final handheld experience is not supported by the available evidence.
Once the release arrives, reassess the store badge and version-specific Deck reports. Give particular weight to sustained downhill performance, frame pacing and menu control rather than a single average number. Until those checks exist, DIEATHLON belongs in the “watch and test” category, not the “safe Deck purchase” category.
