No—Enshrouded does not support cross-platform play at its 1.0 launch. Keen Games’ October 13, 2026 launch FAQ says cross-platform play is being worked on, but the studio has not provided an estimate for when it will arrive. A PC player therefore should not expect to join the same world as a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S player at launch.

You can still play cooperatively with people on the same supported platform family, or keep a persistent PC world online with Keen’s dedicated-server software. The guide below explains the launch limitation, the announced platform plan, exact Windows server setup, ports, memory requirements, joining methods, and the trade-offs between hosting at home and renting a server.

Cross-platform, or crossplay, means players on different hardware ecosystems connect to one multiplayer session. For Enshrouded, the important distinction is between the existence of console versions and the ability to mix those versions with PC players. A PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S release does not automatically make a PC-and-console world possible.
Keen’s October 13, 2026 launch FAQ is explicit: cross-platform play will not be available at the 1.0 launch. The studio says it is working on the feature, but has no current estimate for the amount of time required. That is a statement of intent, not a delivery date. Treat any later change as a live-service update and check Keen’s official news feed before arranging a cross-platform session.

Enshrouded crossplay status at the 1.0 launch
| Question | Launch answer | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Is Enshrouded cross-platform? | No at 1.0 launch, according to Keen Games’ October 13, 2026 FAQ. | Do not plan a shared world between PC and console players at launch. |
| Is crossplay planned? | Yes. Keen says it is working on cross-platform play. | The feature is future work rather than a launch capability. |
| Is there an ETA? | No current estimate has been supplied. | A release window cannot be used to plan a purchase or play session. |
| How many players can cooperate? | Up to 16 players in the cited Keen FAQ. | That is the stated group limit for supported cooperative play; it does not override the launch platform separation. |
The practical answer to “Can PC and PS5 play Enshrouded together?” is therefore no at launch. The same applies to a PC-and-Xbox Series X|S group. Until Keen announces otherwise, organize a party on the same platform environment and version.
What the game supports besides crossplay
Keen describes Enshrouded as a cooperative online multiplayer game that can also be played solo and offline. The cited FAQ describes groups of up to 16. Those are separate capabilities: you can play alone without an online group, play cooperatively within the supported platform arrangement, or use a dedicated server for a persistent world. None of those options creates cross-platform access at launch.

The FAQ’s platform wording says Enshrouded began in Steam Early Access and would later come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That wording establishes the planned platform path, not a promise that the versions share servers. When arranging a group, verify the current release and multiplayer support for each platform rather than inferring compatibility from the presence of a console edition.
Solo and offline play
Solo and offline play are useful when you do not need another player in the session. They do not provide a way for an offline character or world to be joined by a player on another platform. Cross-platform play concerns networked sessions and remains unavailable at launch.
Dedicated servers: the PC option for a persistent world
A dedicated server runs the game world as a separate process instead of tying the world’s availability to the player who started a normal hosted session. Friends can join while the operator is away, provided the machine and network remain online. Keen’s official dedicated-server installation article documents Windows as the supported operating system for this setup.
The official PC server is distributed through Steam’s Library under Tools. It creates an enshrouded_server.json file on first launch; that file is where you adjust the server settings before starting the server for regular use.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Windows installation and first configuration
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Enable the Tools filter so utility applications appear.
- Install Enshrouded Dedicated Server.
- Open the server’s Properties, choose Installed Files, and select Browse to open its installation folder.
- Run Enshrouded Dedicated Server.exe directly from that folder. Keen’s instructions call for running the executable rather than relying on Steam’s Launch button for this first run.
- Wait for the process to create
enshrouded_server.json. - Stop the server process before editing the JSON file.
- Change the settings you need in
enshrouded_server.json, save the file, and start the executable again. - Allow the configured query port through Windows Firewall and create the corresponding router-forwarding rule if players will connect from outside your home network.
- Launch Enshrouded, choose Join, and enable the dedicated-server filter to look for the server.
The first run is intentionally a two-stage process: generate the configuration file, then stop, edit, and restart. Editing a file before it exists, or changing settings while the process is still running, will not produce a reliable configuration.
What to configure and what to keep consistent
The most important networking rule is consistency. If you change the query-port value in the JSON file, use that same value in the Windows Firewall rule, the router’s forwarding rule, and any manual connection details. A mismatch can make a healthy process invisible or unreachable even when the server is running.
Port, protocol, and connection details
Keen’s network troubleshooting guide lists 15637 as the default query port. Enshrouded multiplayer currently uses IPv4. The number is a default, not a permanent requirement: an administrator may change it in enshrouded_server.json, but every network setting must then be updated to match.
| Setting | Official value or rule | Where to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Default query port | 15637 |
Server configuration, Windows Firewall, router forwarding, and manual connection details. |
| Network addressing | IPv4 | Use an IPv4 address when adding a server manually or checking the router rule. |
| Changed port | Any value selected in the JSON configuration | Repeat the identical value in every firewall, router, and client entry. |
Router and firewall sequence
- Confirm the port value in
enshrouded_server.json. Start with15637if you have not changed it. - Create a Windows Firewall allowance for that configured port.
- Forward the same port on the router to the Windows computer running the dedicated-server process.
- Keep the server computer powered on and connected while others are playing.
- Have a player search through Join with dedicated servers enabled. If the listing is missing, use the manual Steam Game Servers method described below.
Router interfaces differ, so the labels for forwarding and firewall rules vary by equipment. The non-negotiable part is the matching IPv4 destination and port. Do not troubleshoot the browser first if the process is bound to one port while the router forwards another.
How players join a dedicated server
Normal in-game discovery
- Start Enshrouded.
- Select Join.
- Enable the dedicated-server filter.
- Find the server in the list and connect.
- Favorite the server in-game once it appears, so future sessions do not depend on a fresh search.
Keen’s dedicated-server FAQ identifies this Join-menu method as the default connection path. Favorites are useful for a private group that returns to the same world regularly.
When the server does not appear
The server browser is not the only option. Open Steam’s View > Game Servers screen and add the server’s IPv4 address manually. Use the configured query port, which is 15637 unless you changed it. This fallback separates a discovery problem from a server or network problem: if a manual entry works, the process and forwarding are likely functioning even though the in-game listing was delayed or incomplete.
Capacity, memory, and save ownership
Keen’s official server FAQ reports approximately 4.4 GB of physical RAM for the server process while idle. It allows for up to 100 MB of additional RAM per player and states that the server should not exceed 6 GB of RAM. These are the published figures for the server process, not a promise that every Windows installation will have identical total system usage.
| Resource fact | Published figure | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| Idle server-process memory | Approximately 4.4 GB physical RAM | Leave headroom for Windows and other services on a self-hosted machine. |
| Per-player increase | Up to 100 MB per player | Larger groups add memory demand on top of the idle footprint. |
| FAQ server-memory recommendation | Do not exceed 6 GB RAM for the server | Watch usage as the group grows rather than assuming the idle number is the total requirement. |
| Group size | Up to 16 players | The player cap and memory figures should be considered together when choosing hardware. |
Character progression is stored on clients, while each game world has its own server save, according to Keen’s FAQ. This division matters when you change hosts or machines: a character’s progress and a world’s state are different kinds of data. Preserve the relevant server-world save when moving a world, and do not assume that having a character file alone recreates the shared map.

Both approaches can provide a persistent world, but they place responsibility in different hands. Self-hosting is suitable when someone in the group controls a Windows machine, router, firewall, and reliable uptime. Managed hosting is easier when the group wants the world available without leaving a personal computer and home connection running.
| Decision area | Self-hosted Windows server | Managed rental |
|---|---|---|
| Cross-platform compatibility | No cross-platform play at the 1.0 launch; the server does not remove that limit. | No cross-platform play at the 1.0 launch; verify the provider’s supported client platforms. |
| Platform documented by Keen | Windows is the platform covered by Keen’s dedicated-server installation guide. | Confirm the provider’s operating environment and game-version support before renting. |
| Persistence | World can remain online while the original host is away if the machine and connection stay up. | Provider operates the machine, so the group does not need a home PC running continuously. |
| Operational work | Install the executable, edit JSON, manage firewall and router rules, apply updates, and maintain uptime. | Provider handles most machine and network maintenance; you still manage access and game settings. |
| Discovery | Use the in-game dedicated-server browser, favorites, or Steam’s Game Servers IP entry. | Use the provider’s supplied connection information through the same in-game joining tools. |
| Memory planning | Plan around approximately 4.4 GB idle plus up to 100 MB per player, with Keen’s 6 GB server-memory guidance. | Check the host’s assigned resources and limits against the same published requirements. |
When self-hosting is the better fit
- You already have a Windows machine that can stay online.
- You want direct control over
enshrouded_server.json, firewall rules, router forwarding, and restart timing. - You are comfortable diagnosing IPv4 connectivity and maintaining your own backups and updates.
- You want to avoid transferring server administration to a third party.
When managed hosting is the better fit
- The world should be available even when the usual host’s PC is shut down.
- No player wants to configure a router, expose a port, or maintain a Windows process.
- The group prefers a provider dashboard and support process over local troubleshooting.
- You need to confirm region, platform scope, resource allocation, and current terms before purchase.
What Keen says about rentals
Keen’s FAQ names GPORTAL as a partner offering dedicated servers that can be rented directly from within the game. The same statement says servers may also be rented through other preferred providers. It does not establish a universal price, regional availability, or a cross-platform exception. Check the current in-game rental options and the provider’s terms for your region before committing.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The dedicated server process starts, but no configuration file appears
Run Enshrouded Dedicated Server.exe from the installation folder reached through Steam’s Properties > Installed Files > Browse path. The documented first-run behavior is that this direct execution creates enshrouded_server.json. Once it appears, stop the process before making edits.
The server is running but absent from Join
- Confirm that the Join screen’s dedicated-server filter is enabled.
- Check that the server process is still running.
- Verify the configured port. The default is
15637. - Confirm that Windows Firewall allows the same port.
- Confirm that the router forwards that same port to the server computer’s IPv4 address.
- Add the IPv4 address manually in Steam’s View > Game Servers screen if browser discovery still fails.
Players cannot connect after changing the port
Compare the JSON value with the firewall rule, router forwarding rule, and the port entered for manual connection. A changed value is valid only when every location uses it. Also remember that Keen’s current multiplayer networking is IPv4; an IPv6-only address will not satisfy that documented setup.
The machine becomes unstable as the group grows
Use Keen’s published memory figures as a check: approximately 4.4 GB at idle, up to 100 MB more per player, and a stated 6 GB server-memory ceiling. If the host is close to that ceiling, reduce other workloads on the machine or move the world to a host with resources that match the expected group size.
A rented server is visible but the group still cannot mix platforms
Rental changes who operates the server; it does not add crossplay. At the 1.0 launch, PC and console players remain separated because cross-platform play is not supported. Confirm that every participant is using a supported client platform for that server.
Planning a group before launch
- List every player’s platform and separate PC-only or console-only groups until Keen announces crossplay.
- Choose a normal session for occasional play or a dedicated server when the world must persist without one player hosting.
- For self-hosting, check that a Windows machine can remain online and has sufficient memory for the expected group.
- Install the dedicated-server tool from Steam’s Tools section and complete the first-run JSON generation.
- Set the port, firewall, and router consistently; use IPv4.
- Test discovery with Join and the dedicated-server filter before inviting the full group.
- Favorite the working server, and record the IPv4 address and port for the Steam Game Servers fallback.
- Keep the server-world save distinct from client character progression when planning migrations or backups.
What could change after launch
Keen has committed only to working on cross-platform play, without an ETA. A future patch could change platform compatibility, server behavior, or the supported installation process. Recheck Keen’s current launch and server announcements when the group is ready to play, especially if a console player is waiting to join a PC world. Until an official update changes the status, the reliable assumption is same-platform multiplayer, with dedicated servers available for PC administration through the documented Windows tool.
