Yes—but the connection was specific to Flappy Bird’s 2024 Telegram revival, which was promoted around Web3 and integrated with the TON blockchain. It should not be treated as a feature of every Flappy Bird release: the April 2025 Android relaunch was reported as having no crypto connection. The original game’s creator, Dong Nguyen, said he was not involved and did not support crypto.
Where the crypto connection came from
In September 2024, the Flappy Bird Foundation announced the game’s return, including a Telegram mini app. Le Monde reported that the Telegram project, called Flap-a-TON, was integrated with TON and tied to Web3 messaging. The Foundation’s terms for that service also discuss blockchain assets and potential governance contracts. Those details establish a crypto connection for that campaign—not for every game using the Flappy Bird name.
Nguyen, who created the original game, publicly distanced himself from the revival. In a September 15, 2024 X post quoted by Decrypt, he wrote: “No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything. I also don’t support crypto.” The Foundation said it acquired rights through Gametech Holdings. Game File reported that the trademark had been abandoned and acquired by another party, rather than sold by Nguyen; that account does not establish a more detailed legal history.
How the Telegram campaign differed from later releases
| Phase or service | Platform and timing | Crypto status established by reporting | Token or airdrop status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flap-a-TON revival | Telegram mini app; announced in September 2024 | Reported as integrated with TON and promoted with Web3 messaging | Decrypt reported that the Telegram mining campaign ended in spring 2025 without a token airdrop |
| Android relaunch | Android; April 2025 | Decrypt described it as having no crypto connection | No token or airdrop was confirmed for this release in the cited reporting |
| Later Web3 plans | Foundation announcement; June 4, 2025 | The Foundation said it would continue exploring Web3 intellectual property and gaming | No token details, blockchain specifics, or launch timeline were announced |
| Flappybird.io browser game | Browser service; terms dated August 17, 2026 | Its terms identify Flappy Bird LLC, describe the game as free, and say no account is required; they do not establish that it is the Foundation’s Telegram service | Not stated in those terms |
The table is not a complete feature comparison: the cited material does not establish the current features of every version or service. Shared branding alone is not enough to treat Flappybird.io, the Foundation, and the Telegram campaign as one operator or product.

What happened to the FLAP token?
Decrypt reported that the Telegram mining phase ended in spring 2025 without a token airdrop. The Foundation’s June 4, 2025 statement described future Web3 ambitions and competitive play and rewards, but did not specify a token, blockchain, or launch date. The available sources therefore do not establish a current token, its value, or a later launch. They also do not provide a comparable return-era player total.
That is different from the original game’s popularity. Le Monde reported nearly three million daily downloads in 2014, around the time Nguyen removed the original game in February. That historical figure is not a measure of the revival’s audience.
