No—there is no confirmed Russian ban on GTA VI. A January 14, 2026 report by NEWS.ru says Mikhail Ivanov, a Bryansk regional legislator and deputy chair of the World Russian People’s Council, called for strict restrictions or a specially edited Russian version. The report documents his appeal, not a decision by a Russian authority or court.
What did the Russian deputy say about GTA 6?
NEWS.ru reported that Ivanov urged Russia to restrict Grand Theft Auto VI or require a specially edited version. He argued that alleged content was immoral and could negatively influence young people. These are Ivanov’s claims; the report does not establish them as findings by a regulator, court, or independent assessment.

NEWS.ru attributed this statement to Ivanov: “The creators of GTA VI are deliberately including destructive and vulgar content in their product, completely unacceptable to society’s moral health.” It is his characterization, not an official determination about the game.
Why does he want restrictions?
The report attributes Ivanov’s appeal to claims about alleged male-stripper scenes, content he considers immoral, and the game’s potential influence on young people. Rockstar’s own content advisory lists nudity and strong sexual content, among other mature themes, but the materials reviewed do not verify the specific alleged scene cited by Ivanov.

The available evidence supports saying that Ivanov called for restrictions in a January 2026 media report. It does not establish that a federal authority, regulator, or court subsequently banned or restricted the game. A politician’s appeal and an enacted legal restriction are different things; a formal status claim would require a government, regulator, or court record.

There is also no established official Russia-only edition to compare with the announced console versions. Rockstar’s stated release platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; account-region compatibility may matter when ordering.
