Why Switch 2 specifications do not confirm a port
Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 launch announcement describes Switch 2 as having improved CPU and GPU performance over the original Switch, a 7.9-inch built-in 1080p LCD, and 256 GB of internal storage. Those are hardware specifications, not evidence that Rockstar has adapted GTA VI for the system. Without a publisher announcement, claims about whether the game could run, or what resolution, frame rate, or visual compromises a port might involve, would be speculation.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa described Switch 2 as “the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch.” His statement was about the console, not GTA VI.

What a former Rockstar developer said—and what it means
GamesRadar+ reported on September 25, 2026, that former Rockstar open-world designer Jérémy Hartvick, who it said worked on GTA VI from 2017 to 2020, did not think a Switch 2 port made sense for the game’s audience. The report quotes him saying, “I don’t believe it even makes sense, because I’m not sure the audience for GTA 6 is so much the audience for the Switch,” and, “If you’re a GTA fan, you would probably buy a console on which GTA will come out.”
GamesRadar described the interview as private. Hartvick’s comments are his opinion as a former developer; they are not a current announcement or policy from Nintendo, Rockstar, or Take-Two. They do not establish whether a port is planned.

A reliable confirmation would come from an attributable Nintendo or Rockstar announcement, or an official platform listing that explicitly names Switch 2. Until then, treat headlines or social posts claiming Nintendo has confirmed GTA VI for the console as unverified unless they point to the original statement and identify who made it.
Nintendo announced that Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025. That launch date and the console’s general support for compatible Switch games do not change the status of GTA VI: no Switch 2 version is confirmed by the official Rockstar material reviewed here.
