Bethesda Support also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 release for 2026, but gives no specific date. The platform timeline is clear; the public sources cited here do not explain Microsoft’s business rationale for bringing this game to PlayStation.

What changed about the Xbox exclusivity plan?
The game was first announced for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Xbox Wire specifying Steam and day-one Game Pass access. Bethesda’s August 20, 2024 announcement also said a PS5 version would come in spring 2025. Sony subsequently confirmed April 17, 2025 as the PS5 launch date. That sequence makes Xbox the earlier console release, but it does not establish a defined exclusivity term or a contractual promise to keep the game off PlayStation.

There was earlier public context behind questions about a PlayStation version. In February 2024, when Xbox announced four games for rival consoles, Phil Spencer said Indiana Jones and Starfield were not among those four, according to the Associated Press. That was a statement about the four-game announcement at the time—not a guarantee that Indiana Jones would never come to PS5. Associated Press

Why did Microsoft bring this game to PS5?
The official announcements establish the platform sequence, not the company’s internal reasoning. The sources cited here do not identify a financial, contractual or audience-growth rationale for this specific PS5 version, nor do they quantify the port’s commercial effect. Treat claims about Microsoft’s motive or the port’s sales impact as speculation unless they are supported by separate, attributable evidence.
What is different about the PS5 version?
Sony’s April 11, 2025 announcement described PS5 features including DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, stable 60 FPS and ray tracing. Those are platform-holder descriptions, not independent performance tests. Sony also quoted Production Director John Jennings: “Each platform introduces something unique to the experience, and we’ve worked hard to ensure our use of the PlayStation 5’s suite of features directly benefits you and the game.” PlayStation Blog
