Yes—Resident Evil Requiem includes scenes about Leon Kennedy’s infection. Director Koshi Nakanishi referred to them in a May 2026 interview. That confirms infection is part of the story, but the available sources do not identify the pathogen, explain how Leon became infected, or say what happens to him.
What is confirmed about Leon’s infection?
In a May 5, 2026 report, PC Gamer quoted Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi describing “the scenes about his infection.” He discussed those scenes alongside Leon reflecting on his first day at the Raccoon City Police Department. The remark establishes that infection is a story thread in the game—not just a fan interpretation of a trailer image.

It does not establish whether this is a new infection or a lingering one, which pathogen is involved, or how the plot resolves it. The official PlayStation game page identifies Leon as a returning DSO agent but does not explain his infection.
What remains theory, not confirmed story?
A Reddit discussion speculates about Leon appearing infected and possibly deteriorating, but it is one fan discussion, not evidence of canon or a measure of what fans generally believe. Neither that discussion nor the reported director quote supplies a confirmed transmission route, symptoms, progression, or cure.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
- Confirmed: Nakanishi referred to scenes about Leon’s infection.
- Unconfirmed in the sources cited here: the infection’s identity and origin, whether it is new or recurring, its effects, and its outcome.
So “infected again” is a reasonable question, but “again” should not be taken as confirmation of a specific previous infection returning. The available statements confirm the subject, not its medical or plot details.
How Leon fits into Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem pairs Leon with Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst. PlayStation describes them as the two protagonists whose journeys and gameplay styles intertwine. Leon is a seasoned DSO agent investigating a series of deaths in the Midwest, and his gameplay is more action-oriented than Grace’s. Both characters can be played from first- or third-person perspectives, according to the PlayStation page.
