Resident Evil Requiem is earning strong user ratings on both Metacritic and Steam, but the available figures do not prove it is currently the best-reviewed game by users across the whole series. The numbers come from different platforms and scoring systems, and neither source provides a complete, comparable ranking of every Resident Evil game.
What the current user scores say
On Metacritic, Resident Evil Requiem has a 9.3 user score from 15,419 ratings in the snapshot accessed October 8, 2026. Metacritic classifies those ratings as 93% positive, 3% mixed and 4% negative. Its separate critic Metascore is 89, based on 133 critic reviews; that is a critic score, not a user rating. Metacritic’s Requiem page also displays related Resident Evil games’ critic scores, not a complete user-score ranking of the series.

Steam reports 96% positive from 53,741 English-language reviews, and 94% positive from 1,750 recent reviews, in its October 8, 2026 snapshot. These are Steam positive-review shares, not scores on Metacritic’s 0–10 scale. The two platforms draw on different users and use different measures, so their figures should be reported separately rather than combined or treated as directly comparable. Steam’s Requiem page shows its platform-specific review figures.
Does Requiem rank first among Resident Evil games?
Not on the evidence available here. A current “best user-reviewed” claim needs a same-platform comparison using the same rating measure for every series entry, with rating counts and a dated snapshot. The available Metacritic page does not supply that full comparison, and Steam’s Requiem review share alone cannot establish its place against every other game in the franchise.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
There was a launch-period high point: Video Games Chronicle reported in March 2026 that Requiem briefly reached a 9.5 Metacritic user score, tying on the site’s displayed rounded score with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at the top of its all-time user-score chart. That was a dated report of a brief peak, not proof of a current or all-time lead over other Resident Evil games. Video Games Chronicle’s March 2026 report provides that launch-period context.
What kind of Resident Evil game is Requiem?
Capcom identifies Resident Evil Requiem as the ninth main installment in the survival-horror series. It released on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Capcom’s official Requiem site lists the game and its platforms.

The story follows two protagonists whose contrasting play styles shape the experience. Metacritic describes FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft’s sections as survival horror and those of agent Leon S. Kennedy as action, with their gameplay styles intertwining. This mix is also reflected in Capcom’s description of the game as combining intense fear with exhilarating action; that is the publisher’s framing, not an independent review.
What sales and future content has Capcom announced?
On March 16, 2026, Capcom announced that Requiem had sold more than six million units and said it was the fastest game in the series to reach that milestone. The company also said it planned ongoing support and additional game content, but did not specify what that content would be in the announcement. Capcom’s March 16 announcement contains those statements.

Capcom separately reported more than 183 million cumulative sales for the Resident Evil series as of December 31, 2025. That franchise-wide sales figure gives scale to the series, but it does not indicate how Requiem ranks by user rating. Capcom’s series-sales announcement gives the dated total.

A rating headline is only meaningful when it identifies the platform, the kind of score, the number of ratings or reviews, and when the figures were recorded. User ratings can change as more people submit them. In particular, a critic Metascore, a Metacritic user score and Steam’s positive-review percentage answer different questions and should not be substituted for one another.
Quick Recap
- For a series ranking, use one platform and the same user-rating measure for every game.
- Show each game’s rating or review count and capture the figures on the same stated date.
- If comparing platforms, keep their results separate and explain the difference in scoring systems.
