Those updates do not establish a release date or confirm that the game has entered full production.
What BioWare has confirmed about the next Mass Effect
In a November 7, 2025 update, executive producer Mike Gamble said that “the next Mass Effect game is in development” and that EA and BioWare remained committed to telling more stories in the universe. He added that the team was “heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect.” BioWare’s statement confirmed ongoing development, not a specific production milestone.

What the layoffs mean for development
January 2025: a core team remained on the game
On January 29, 2025, BioWare general manager Gary McKay said a core team led by veterans of the original trilogy was developing the next game. He wrote, “Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio.” BioWare also said it had matched many colleagues with open roles on other EA teams. The January update did not give a count of layoffs or provide a full accounting of transfers and departures.
#1 Best Overall
- One person is all that stands between humanity and the greatest threat it’s ever faced.
- Relive the legend of Commander Shepard in the highly acclaimed Mass Effect trilogy with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
- Includes single-player base content and over 40 DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, including promo weapons, armors, and packs - remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD.
August 2023: a separate restructuring
BioWare’s August 23, 2023 statement said it was “eliminating approximately 50 roles at BioWare” and separately noted that a core veteran team led by Mike Gamble continued pre-production on the next Mass Effect. That figure applies to the 2023 restructuring; it is not a count of the staffing changes described in January 2025. BioWare’s 2023 statement

GamesRadar reported that on April 22, 2026, Gamble replied “Just busy workin’” and “Not a lot of time for tease” in a social-media exchange with a fan asking about the lack of news since November. This is a reported comment, not a new formal studio announcement, but it points to the team continuing its work. GamesRadar’s report
