Yes—especially at a discount. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is a strong buy if you want an arcade racer built around high-speed police chases, two-sided career progression, asynchronous friend competition and cross-platform multiplayer. Its value comes from the complete package: the original game’s cop and racer careers, Autolog, the main downloadable content and modern crossplay. It is a much less convincing purchase at full price if you expect a remake-level visual overhaul or a fundamentally new game.
The best platform is usually the one where your friends already play and where your regional store has the better offer. PlayStation, Xbox and PC editions differ mainly in storefront, hardware access, performance options and online subscription rules rather than in the core game.

What kind of game is Hot Pursuit Remastered?
This is an arcade chase racer, not a simulation. You can play as a racer trying to finish events while evading the law, or as a police officer attempting to stop racers with roadblocks, electromagnetic disruption and other tactical equipment. The solo campaign is divided between those two sides, so progressing through one role does not replace the other.

The original release arrived on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2020. The remaster is therefore an updated version of a relatively recent arcade racer rather than a return to an especially old game. PlayStation lists the PS4 edition as playable on PS5, and Xbox lists its edition for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Electronic Arts describes the package as delivering “a deep and fully-defined single-player career” alongside a seamlessly linked multiplayer experience across race modes. The practical result is a game that can be enjoyed alone but was designed around comparing results and chasing other players.
What does the remaster add?
The main reason to buy the Remastered edition instead of seeking the original is the amount of content bundled into one release and the addition of crossplay. Electronic Arts and the platform listings say the package includes the main downloadable content, described by the publisher as six additional hours of gameplay and more than 30 challenges. That six-hour figure is Electronic Arts’ product description, not an independently timed completion result.

Two separate career paths
The career is split between racer events and police events. Each side has its own objectives, vehicles and tactical rhythm. Autolog compares your event performances with those of friends asynchronously. Live online multiplayer
Online multiplayer supports crossplay across the game’s available platforms. Crossplay is separate from simply seeing a friend’s Autolog result: it lets players on different hardware join the same online races and pursuits. The EA PC manual says crossplay can be enabled at first launch or later through privacy settings. Cross-platform friends are managed through EA Friends, using EA IDs rather than only the platform’s local friend list.

Do not treat the existence of crossplay as a guarantee of a busy lobby at every hour. No verified current concurrent-player figure is established, and population varies by region, platform and time of day. Crossplay broadens the potential matchmaking pool, but it cannot guarantee immediate matches.

The frame-rate and resolution figures in the table come from MeriStation’s November 4, 2020 review. They describe the review-era console modes, not a complete current comparison of PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Do not use them as a promise that every modern display, console setting or PC configuration will behave identically.
Is it worth buying on PC?
The PC version is the most flexible choice if you already use Steam and want to play with console friends through crossplay. It avoids a console-specific online subscription requirement and lets you choose the hardware and display setup that suits your system. The trade-off is that the available evidence does not provide a tested PC resolution, frame-rate table or recommended hardware specification, so you should check the current Steam listing and your system requirements before purchasing.

Steam showed a localized price of €29.99 on October 13, 2026. That was a storefront snapshot, not a permanent price or a worldwide recommendation. Your regional currency, taxes and future sales may produce a different total. Treat the Steam listing as the authoritative source for your location and edition.
PC is a good fit when you value:
- Playing with friends who use PlayStation or Xbox through crossplay.
- Steam ownership and the ability to use your own display and input setup.
- Access to the full remastered content without buying separate add-ons.
- Autolog competition without needing to be online at the same time as every friend.
It is a weaker value if you are buying solely for cutting-edge graphics. The remaster’s visual update is modest, and the available console review does not support a claim that the PC edition delivers a major generational leap.
Is it worth buying on PlayStation?
PS4
PS4 is the original console generation for this edition. MeriStation reported a 1080p/30 presentation on base PS4 in its 2020 review, while the PS4 Pro report offered a choice between 1080p/60 and 4K/30. Those are review-era observations and should be read as historical guidance rather than a current system-wide performance certification.
PS5
PS5 players access the PS4 release through backward compatibility. PlayStation’s listing says the game is playable on PS5 but warns that some PS4 features may be absent. PlayStation is the sensible purchase when your friends, trophies and existing library are centered there. Buy it at a discount if you already know you enjoy arcade chase racing; the PS5-compatible access does not turn the remaster into a new-generation remake.

Xbox lists the edition for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox US store displayed a temporary price of $7.99, reduced from $39.99, when checked on October 13, 2026; that snapshot said the sale ended three days later. The same store listing states that console online multiplayer requires an eligible Game Pass subscription. That requirement applies to playing online on Xbox; it does not describe the single-player career.
