Why do players connect Otis with Hildibrand?
Community discussions use “reflection” and “shard” language when asking whether Otis might be connected to a familiar character. Those terms describe a fan theory; they are not official terminology confirming Otis’s identity. What does Patch 7.2 actually say about Hildibrand?
Square Enix’s official Patch 7.2 page says, “Nashu Mhakaracca has followed the trail of the missing Inspector Hildibrand to the neon-lit metropolis of Solution Nine.” It then describes Detective Hardiboiled as “a man of eerily familiar appearance and resilience.”

That is an explicit resemblance hook in the Hildibrand side story, but it refers to Detective Hardiboiled. The wording does not identify Otis as Hildibrand’s shard, and the two characters should not be conflated on that basis.
