In TechRax’s June 5, 2025 torture test, one Nintendo Switch 2 survived multiple five-foot drops, according to GameSpot’s account of the video. That is an impressive result for that console in that setup—not proof that every Switch 2 can take the same fall. The video also subjected the device to scratching, bending and hammer abuse, while a separate teardown offers a more useful look at what its construction may mean for everyday durability and repair.
What happened in TechRax’s Switch 2 test?
TechRax’s video description says the creator tested a new Switch 2 with drops, scratches, bending and hammer strikes. GameSpot reports that the sequence began with a tabletop drop and included multiple drops from five feet, which the console appeared to survive in that test environment. The video also showed attempts to cut the screen, force the Joy-Cons off improperly, stress the kickstand and, finally, hit the screen with a hammer.
The useful, narrow conclusion is that the particular console shown held up through those specific drops. Neither the video nor GameSpot’s report establishes a standardized protocol, a repeated sample set, a control device or an official Nintendo durability rating. The test is a dramatic demonstration, not a prediction of how a different console will fare after an accidental fall.
Does this mean the Switch 2 is durable in everyday use?
It is evidence that one unit withstood unusual abuse, but it cannot establish a normal-use failure rate or make the console immune to damage. Drop outcomes can depend on the surface, impact angle, whether the console is docked or handheld, and whether it strikes an exposed edge or screen. The test does not provide controlled comparisons across those conditions.

It is also important not to combine TechRax’s video with JerryRigEverything’s separate Switch 2 screen testing and teardown. Tom’s Hardware reported on that other creator’s destructive screen test; its methods and results are not part of TechRax’s five-foot-drop sequence. A reported strike count from a creator video is not a formal durability statistic.
What the teardown says about the hardware
iFixit’s teardown identifies several metal construction details: a larger metal kickstand, metal mesh speaker grilles and a metal-reinforced card-reader cap. These observations help describe how parts of the Switch 2 are built, but a teardown does not show how the whole console performs in a controlled durability test.

The same teardown points to practical repair obstacles. Screws are concealed beneath long stickers that can be difficult to remove cleanly. Tom’s Hardware notes that the teardown involved both Phillips and special tri-point screwdrivers, and that the batteries are glued down. Some components may be reachable with electronics tools, but hidden fasteners and adhesive complicate service; this evidence does not establish that repairs are easy, inexpensive or safe for an untrained owner.
Should you use a case or screen protector?
A carrying case can reduce the chance of knocks and scratches while the console is being transported, while a screen protector is intended to shield the display surface from scratches. They address different exposures, and neither guarantees that the console will survive a drop. TechRadar discusses an official Nintendo all-in-one case and a case-and-screen-protector option, but the available coverage does not establish a best product or a measured protection advantage for either.

Before buying an accessory, check whether it covers only the screen or the whole console, whether it fits your travel needs without excessive bulk, whether the console can dock with it installed, and whether a protector is included. These accessories were not part of TechRax’s test.

The phrase captures the entertainment value of watching a Switch 2 withstand punishment, but it overstates what one video can prove. A more defensible takeaway is that TechRax’s sample survived multiple five-foot drops in that particular test, while the broader question of product-wide durability remains unanswered by that demonstration. The teardown reveals some reinforced metal parts alongside features that make opening and servicing the console more difficult.
