Yes. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is available through the GameCube – Nintendo Classics catalog on Nintendo Switch 2. You need both a Switch 2 and a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership to play it.
What you need to play The Wind Waker
- Hardware: Nintendo Switch 2. The GameCube Classics app is exclusive to that system; an original Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite alone is not enough.
- Membership: A paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. A standard Nintendo Switch Online membership does not provide access to this GameCube catalog.
Nintendo’s catalog lists The Wind Waker among the GameCube games available on Switch 2. The collection became available on June 6, 2025, according to Nintendo’s announcement. Nintendo’s GameCube – Nintendo Classics catalog and April 2025 announcement describe the game and membership requirements; Nintendo’s June 6, 2025 announcement marks the collection available.
Is it on the original Nintendo Switch?
No—not through the GameCube Classics app. Nintendo identifies that app as a Switch 2 feature, so owning the original Switch or Switch Lite, even with Expansion Pack, does not meet the hardware requirement.
Which version of The Wind Waker is included?
The catalog offers a reproduction of the original GameCube game, not the Wii U HD remake. Nintendo notes that presentation and performance can differ from the original release. Its June 2025 announcement gives 2003 as the North American GameCube release year.

Do you need a special controller?
No. Nintendo announced an optional GameCube-style wireless controller, but it is not an access requirement. You can play with the Switch 2 system’s supported controls; the controller is a separate choice, not a substitute for the console or membership.
