James Bond: First Light is a single-player, third-person action-adventure. IO Interactive says the planned experience does not include multiplayer, so there is no announced co-op or competitive mode. The main campaign can be played offline after one internet connection downloads the Day 1 patch.
The game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 27, 2026. IO Interactive’s newer support information lists Nintendo Switch 2 for March 2027. This FAQ explains the connection requirement, accessibility features, PC hardware, editions and the practical differences between buying and playing on each platform.

Is 007 First Light single-player or multiplayer?
First Light is designed as a solo game. IO Interactive describes it as a story-driven action-adventure with a standalone, re-imagined origin story for a young James Bond. The game uses a third-person perspective and is built around a directed campaign rather than a shared-world or team-based format.

No multiplayer experience has been announced. IO Interactive’s FAQ states that the studio is fully committed to the best possible First Light experience and that this does not include multiplayer.

Does First Light have co-op?
There is no announced co-op campaign, split-screen mode or online cooperative mission structure. You should buy First Light expecting a solo Bond story, not a game in which another player joins your missions.
Online features do not change that basic format. A connection can add leaderboards, challenges and other connected functions, but those are supplementary systems around a single-player campaign rather than multiplayer play.
Do you need internet to play First Light?
You need internet once, during installation, to download the Day 1 patch. IO Interactive says that after the patch is installed, the full main campaign is playable offline. This is different from an always-online requirement: you can disconnect after setup and continue the story without a network connection.

- Install the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC.
- Connect the console or computer to the internet before starting the game for the first time.
- Allow the Day 1 patch to download and finish installing. Do not suspend the update midway if you intend to leave your connection afterward.
- Start the game once, then test the opening section before taking the system offline. This confirms that the patch and game installation completed correctly.
- Disconnect only after the update has finished. The main campaign should remain available for offline play.
What still needs a connection?
Leaderboards, challenges and similar connected features require internet access. IO Interactive recommends playing online when possible to experience the game’s full range of features. If you launch offline, those online-dependent systems may be unavailable even though the core story remains playable.

Can you pause while offline?
Yes. The accessibility information says that First Light can be paused at any time during offline play. That is useful on a handheld or shared television, and it means the offline campaign is not forced to run continuously while you step away.
Is an IOI Account mandatory?
No. IO Interactive Player Support explicitly says an IOI Account is not required to play First Light. You therefore do not need to create a separate publisher account simply to start the campaign. Platform accounts remain governed by the normal requirements of your console storefront or PC launcher, but an additional IOI account is not a condition of playing the game.

The Switch 2 timing supersedes the earlier summer-2026 estimate that appeared in the developer FAQ. Treat March 2027 as the current support-listed window, not as a guaranteed day and month. Store listings can show a different calendar date because of regional time zones; the developer FAQ and support article use May 27, 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC launch.

PC requirements and storage
The PC version requires a 64-bit installation of Windows 10 or Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD with at least 80 GB of available space. The graphics cards below are the published baseline and recommended classes; they are not a promise of a particular frame rate or resolution.

Plan for more free space than the stated 80 GB if your launcher needs room to unpack an update or retain temporary files. The 80 GB figure is the support-listed requirement, not a guarantee that an almost-full drive will update successfully.

IO Interactive lists the following launch-day file sizes, including the Day 1 patch:

These platform-specific figures explain why the required storage number is higher than the initial download on some systems. Updates, saved data and launcher overhead can increase the space you need later.
Accessibility options
First Light includes settings for audio, subtitles, controls, motion effects, difficulty and quick-time events. The exact menu labels can vary by platform, and some control features are described as available where supported by the hardware.

Controls and sensitivity
- Preset control layouts are available.
- Remapping is supported, with PlayStation describing the controls as fully customizable.
- Stick sensitivity can be adjusted, and inversion options are available where the platform supports them.
Motion, touch and vibration
The game can be played without motion, touch, vibration or adaptive-trigger effects. Those options are important for players who cannot use motion-based inputs, who find haptic feedback uncomfortable, or who prefer conventional controls.
Difficulty and quick-time events
- Basic difficulty presets let you choose a less demanding or more demanding experience.
- Simplified quick-time events reduce the timing burden during prompted actions.
- Control and tutorial reminders can be enabled to make infrequently used actions easier to recall.
These are adjustments to the way the game is played, not separate multiplayer or assist modes. If you want the story without demanding reaction windows, the simplified QTE and lower difficulty settings are the most directly relevant choices.

The phrase “free Deluxe Upgrade pre-order offer” is tied to the support listing, so check the retailer’s current terms before assuming it applies to a late purchase. The base game is the same story experience across editions; the higher tiers primarily add cosmetics and physical collectibles.

Specialist Edition and the Tuxedo pre-order reward
The developer FAQ names Amazon.com as the retailer for the Specialist Edition. It also says the Tuxedo Suit can be obtained by pre-ordering any edition exclusively through Amazon.com. Verify the listing in your region, the stated delivery or redemption terms and whether the pre-order window is still open before paying; availability and eligibility are volatile.
Limited-edition controller
PlayStation has documented a limited-edition 007 First Light DualSense wireless controller. Its cited purchase route is PlayStation Direct, so do not assume that a retailer carrying the Specialist Edition also carries the controller.
Choosing the right platform

Accessibility should also influence the decision. Review the platform-specific controller options, mono-audio support and subtitle presentation before purchase if you rely on a particular input or audio arrangement. The core accessibility features are documented across the official support and PlayStation information, but hardware capabilities differ between systems.
Offline-play checklist and common problems
The campaign will not start offline
- Reconnect to the internet and confirm that the Day 1 patch completed rather than remaining queued or paused.
- Launch the game online once after updating, then close it normally before disconnecting.
- Check that the game is installed on the account and platform that downloaded it; offline licenses are controlled by the console or PC storefront.
Leaderboards or challenges are missing
That behavior is expected without a connection. Those systems are online-dependent and do not determine whether the main story is playable.
The PC installer reports insufficient space
Keep at least 80 GB free on an SSD, plus additional working room for downloads and temporary files. If the drive is close to full, remove or move other data before starting the patch rather than relying on the exact minimum.
You want to avoid an IOI Account prompt
An IOI Account is not required for First Light. If a launcher displays an optional registration prompt, look for the skip or continue-with-platform-account route instead of creating an account solely to access the campaign.
