Gaming Factory has announced a Windows PC release through Steam, but has not set a launch date. The game combines arcade driving, vehicle-based brawling and Japanese folklore in a corrupted version of the Guntama open world.
What is JDM: Ph4ntom Driver?
Gaming Factory describes the project as “a standalone action-oriented, arcade racing game with a brawling gameplay focus, inspired by the JDM street culture and Japanese folklore.” That wording signals a different design emphasis from a conventional street-racing sequel: driving is still the core activity, but the car is also a weapon used against supernatural enemies.

The story begins after the player accidentally starts a demonic invasion. A once-green land has become a dark, oppressive Spirit World, and the player must survive, find allies and keep moving while working toward a confrontation with the demon king Shouten Douji.

Setting: a corrupted Guntama and the Spirit World
The game revisits the fictional open world of Guntama, but in a redesigned and stylised form suited to its supernatural premise. Instead of presenting the region only as a backdrop for road races, the new version is occupied by hostile folklore creatures and shaped by the consequences of the invasion.

Enemies from Japanese folklore
The announced Youkai roster includes Kodama, Oni and Omukade. These creatures are part of the world’s central conflict rather than a cosmetic theme: encounters are intended to be fought with the player’s JDM car as a lethal tool.
How the gameplay differs from a conventional racing game
Ph4ntom Driver remains an arcade racing game, but its moment-to-moment loop adds action combat and story progression. The available description supports these confirmed elements:

The announcement does not provide a full list of missions, car models, upgrade systems, race types or combat controls. Those details should not be assumed from the earlier game or from the folklore setting.

Single-player campaign
The announced campaign is designed as a substantial solo journey. Hand-drawn manga presentation and dialogue are planned to carry the narrative between the driving and combat sections, giving the spin-off a more explicit story structure than a series of disconnected races.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is planned, but Gaming Factory has not announced when it will arrive or which modes it will include. There is currently no confirmed split between cooperative and competitive play, no player-count specification and no promise that multiplayer will be available at launch.
PC release status and expected storefront
The confirmed platform is Windows PC via Steam. SteamDB currently lists the title as a prerelease project with its release date marked To be announced. That means there is no reliable launch window, preorder date or minimum system-requirements list to use yet.

Current Steam metadata lists full controller support, along with DualShock and DualSense support, Steam Input compatibility and a gamepad-preferred control profile. These entries indicate that standard gamepads are an intended way to play.

No specific racing-wheel model has been confirmed. Players who want a wheel setup should wait for an official compatibility list or post-launch testing before buying hardware specifically for this title. The available metadata does not establish support for any particular wheel, pedal set or shifter.
How it compares with JDM: Japanese Drift Master
The two games share the JDM setting and Guntama foundation, but the announced design goals point in different directions.

This makes Ph4ntom Driver a standalone spin-off rather than a simple content update. Familiar cars and geography connect it to the franchise, while the Spirit World, Youkai enemies and brawling system define its separate identity.
