They are not the JSAUX PC0108 front shell for Steam Deck, and Steam Deck disassembly instructions do not apply. JSAUX describes the faceplates as an accessory replacement that sits on the front of the Steam Machine. Does it work with Steam Deck?
There is no documented Steam Deck compatibility in the supplied JSAUX specifications. The E-Ink battery figure is not a universal runtime promise. More frequent refreshes, wireless conditions, image changes, and charging habits can alter endurance. Pixel Matrix’s 3.5 W figure is a manufacturer specification, not a measured result from this site.
What are the practical trade-offs?
- E-Ink: lower visual complexity, monochrome presentation, Bluetooth operation, and no need for a permanently connected data cable once charged. JSAUX says custom uploads are static and refresh in roughly 500–800 ms.
- Pixel Matrix: color and GIF support, but the panel needs USB-C for both power and data. JSAUX says software version 1.2 limits brightness and frame rates for power-heavy content to reduce USB power overload, flickering, and disconnections. Software versions can change, so check the current release before installing.
Do I need to take the Steam Machine apart?
JSAUX lists magnetic attachment for both models, so the physical mounting is presented as an external placement rather than an internal shell replacement. Its published guide does not tell you to remove screws, disconnect a battery, or open the Steam Machine. Do not invent those steps or substitute a Steam Deck teardown.
Physical attachment and software setup are separate tasks. Even when the panel is seated magnetically, the display application and Decky Loader still have to be installed through SteamOS Desktop Mode according to JSAUX’s guide.
How do I install the JSAUX software?
Before starting, have the correct faceplate, an internet-connected Steam Machine, access to SteamOS Desktop Mode, and the matching JSAUX installer files. JSAUX says both applications require Decky Loader. The following is the sequence published by JSAUX, not a hands-on test by this site.

- Download and extract the correct files. For E-Ink, use the files associated with JSAUX MonoInk. For Pixel Matrix, use JSAUX MatrixLink. JSAUX’s guide says to extract and copy the corresponding folder to
/home/deck/. - Run the matching desktop installer. Launch

Which app and cable does each panel need?
E-Ink uses MonoInk and Bluetooth 5.0, with USB-C used to recharge its 500 mAh battery. Pixel Matrix uses MatrixLink and a wired USB-C connection for ongoing power and data. A suitable USB-C data/power cable may be necessary for Pixel Matrix, but JSAUX’s captured product information does not confirm package contents or whether a separate cable is included.

Do not enable optional features merely because they appear in an installer. JSAUX describes an optional AI Agent plugin that can read local Codex login credentials when enabled. It is not required for normal faceplate installation; review the official installer and privacy implications before allowing it.
What should I check if the display does not work?
Start with the simplest mismatch: confirm that the application matches the physical panel. Then check the connection path appropriate to that model. These are reasoned checks from JSAUX’s stated setup, not diagnostic results from independent testing.
- Wrong app: remove confusion between JSAUX E-INK/MonoInk and JSAUX PIXEL/MatrixLink. The packages cannot be swapped.
- Pixel Matrix connection: verify a USB-C connection capable of carrying data and power, and check for a secure connection at both ends.
- E-Ink connection: confirm the panel is charged and that Bluetooth pairing is being attempted through the intended software.
- Power-heavy Pixel content: use the current JSAUX software guidance if brightness, frame rate, flicker, or disconnections occur. JSAUX says version 1.2 applies limits to reduce USB power overload.

JSAUX says source code is planned after a Steam release while device firmware remains closed. That does not mean the source code is already available, and it does not make third-party firmware safe to install.
How long is the JSAUX Steam Machine faceplate warranty?
JSAUX’s faceplate-specific term is 24 months, including its stated six-month extension. The warranty page says: “The Steam Machine Faceplates comes with a 24-month warranty, including the 6-month extended warranty.” This specific term should not be replaced by the generic 12-month sentence elsewhere in JSAUX’s warranty and returns materials.
The terms apply to specified purchases in the UK, United States, Canada, and the European Union. Keep your proof of purchase and contact JSAUX support before sending anything back. JSAUX may request a description of the defect, photographs, and return of the unit for inspection.
JSAUX describes repair or replacement remedies and excludes problems such as damage caused by improper power or unapproved accessories. Can changing the faceplate void the Steam Machine warranty?
There is no basis here for saying that a magnetic faceplate automatically voids, preserves, or changes Valve’s hardware warranty.
