“katzecheats.dll was not found” and “The code execution cannot proceed because katzecheats.dll was not found” usually mean an old third-party module was deleted, quarantined, or only partly extracted. katzecheats.dll is associated with KatzeCheats, an unofficial Counter-Strike: Global Offensive cheat, not with Windows or Microsoft.
The 60-second answer
Do not download katzecheats.dll, copy it into System32, or run regsvr32.

Public records identify KatzeCheats as a 2020 CS:GO cheat distributed with a separate injector. The package was later reported as outdated, and users reported crashes and possible detection. There is no verified current publisher, official download, public hash, architecture, or maintained release for this filename.

katzecheats.dll is a third-party game-cheat module. Reports describe starting CS:GO and injecting the DLL into the running game. That explains why the file may appear in a CS:GO folder, Downloads, an extracted ZIP directory, or a temporary injector folder.

It is not:
- a Windows component;
- a Microsoft DLL;
- part of Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET;
- normally installed in
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64; - a file that should be repaired by registering it.
The filename alone does not prove that every copy is the same binary. If you never installed a cheat, treat the file and its surrounding package as suspicious.
Why the error appears
Defender or another antivirus removed the DLL
This is the most likely explanation. Injected cheat modules are commonly treated as potentially unwanted or malicious software. When the DLL is removed but an injector, shortcut, scheduled task, or startup entry remains, Windows or the injector can continue trying to load it.
To inspect the event:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Open the detection involving
katzecheats.dll. - Record the detection name and file path.
- Do not choose Allow on device or create an exclusion just to make the injector work.
Microsoft explains that restoring a quarantined file can expose the device when the detection is valid. Leave the item quarantined while you clean up the related files.

The cheat archive or injector is incomplete
The DLL may have been manually deleted, extracted to the wrong location, or separated from other files the injector expected. Older cheat packages can also stop working after game or platform changes.
Replacing only the missing DLL does not restore a trustworthy installation. Remove the package instead.
The old build is incompatible
The public 2020 records describe the build as becoming outdated and include reports of CS:GO crashes. A message such as “The specified module could not be found” may therefore indicate a failed injection attempt rather than a damaged Windows installation.
A different application has a real runtime problem
Installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is not a fix for katzecheats.dll itself. Consider a Microsoft runtime only when a separate, legitimate application names a Microsoft runtime DLL or reports a runtime installation problem.
Fix 1: Remove the cheat package safely
Start with cleanup before repairing the game.
- Close CS:GO, Steam, and any injector window.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- On Processes, end any process clearly associated with the injector or cheat.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Review unfamiliar programs installed around the time the problem began.
- Uninstall a related injector or cheat program if Windows identifies one.
- Open File Explorer and check:
- Downloads
- the folder where
KatzeCheats.zipwas extracted - the CS:GO installation directory
- temporary folders used by the injector
- Delete the cheat archive, extracted folder, injector, and shortcuts that belong to it.
- Empty the Recycle Bin.
Do not delete random files from Windows folders just because their names end in .dll. If the file is in a system directory and you did not install the cheat, preserve its path and detection details for the security scan instead.
After cleanup, restart Windows. If the missing-file message disappears and the legitimate game starts after file verification, the cleanup worked.

Fix 2: Run Microsoft Defender scans
Run a full scan after removing the package.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options.
- Select Full scan.
- Click Scan now.
- Allow Windows to quarantine or remove detected files.
- Restart if Windows requests it.
If the alert returns, run an offline scan:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options.
- Select Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan).
- Click Scan now.
- Save your work first because Windows will restart.
A continuing alert after katzecheats.dll is deleted can mean the archive, injector, startup entry, scheduled task, or another dropped payload remains. Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps and Task Manager → Startup apps for items you do not recognize. Do not disable a legitimate Windows security component merely to suppress the warning.
If you never knowingly installed a cheat, change important passwords from a clean device if you find other signs of compromise.

Fix 3: Verify or reinstall the legitimate CS:GO files
Once the cheat and injector are gone, repair the game through Steam.
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the legitimate CS:GO installation.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish.
- Start the game normally without an injector.
The exact game entry or menu wording can vary if the installation has moved or the title has been replaced in your library. Use the installed game’s own Properties page.
If verification reports persistent problems:
- Close Steam.
- Restart Windows.
- Repeat the verification.
- If the game still fails, uninstall it from Steam.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it through the official Steam client.
Do not restore katzecheats.dll to the game directory. The legitimate game should not require this third-party cheat module.
Fix 4: Check a separate Microsoft runtime error
Do not assume that a message mentioning Visual C++ means katzecheats.dll belongs to Visual C++. A third-party program could have been compiled with Microsoft tools without being part of Microsoft’s runtime.

Use Microsoft’s current Visual C++ Redistributable packages and match the application architecture:
- 32-bit applications generally need the x86 package.
- 64-bit applications generally need the x64 package.
- On 64-bit Windows, installing only x64 does not repair every 32-bit application.
Install from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable page, then restart Windows and test the legitimate application again.

Do not download an individual DLL from a random repository. Such files can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, come from the wrong version, or leave the real installation problem untouched.
The same rule applies to DirectX and .NET. Use Windows Update or the affected application’s official installer when a legitimate program specifically requests one of those components. Installing them will not recreate a missing cheat DLL.
Fix 5: Repair broader Windows corruption
Use system repair commands only when other Windows applications also fail, system files are damaged, or the problem extends beyond the cheat and game.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and the legitimate game again. If both commands complete without finding a problem, they will not restore katzecheats.dll; continue with cheat removal and game verification instead.

Drivers and Device Manager
katzecheats.dll is not established as a device driver, so updating drivers is not a normal fix for this error.
Check drivers only if the game has separate graphics, audio, or device problems:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and relevant device categories.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not replace a working driver merely because katzecheats.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can identify stale drivers automatically, but its full-version installation is optional and does not replace removing the cheat or repairing the game.
What not to do
Do not run regsvr32
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general missing-DLL repair command, and katzecheats.dll is not established to be a COM or ActiveX component.
Running a command such as this is not an appropriate fix:
regsvr32 katzecheats.dll
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Copying a file into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or the game directory can introduce malware, create a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch, and hide the real problem. It also does not recreate the injector’s original environment.

Do not restore quarantine just to launch the cheat
If Defender quarantined the file, restoring it can expose the computer. Keep it quarantined unless you have independently verified the file and understand the detection. For this filename, there is no verified public publisher or current official release to establish that trust.
Do not use System Restore to obtain the DLL
System Restore can reverse broader application or configuration changes, but it is not a source for this file. Use it only as a last resort for a wider Windows change after scanning and removing suspicious software.

Is katzecheats.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with an unofficial CS:GO cheat and is not a Microsoft Windows component.
Is the file safe?
The filename is associated with a cheat module that has no verifiable trusted publisher, current official release, public hash, or confirmed architecture. The public evidence does not establish that every binary with this name is malware, but you should not restore or run it merely to remove an error.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
