Warhorse Studios, the Czech developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, said on October 27, 2026, that hackers gained access to its company systems and corporate data. The studio described the event as serious, but has not said how the attackers got in, whether ransomware or extortion was involved, what files were accessed, whether personal information was exposed, or whether game development was disrupted.

That means the confirmed story is an unauthorized-access incident—not yet a verified data leak, ransom attack, cancellation or delay. Warhorse is developing both an open-world Middle-earth role-playing game and a new Kingdom Come adventure, so questions about those projects are likely to continue until the studio publishes a clearer impact assessment.

What exactly did Warhorse confirm?

Warhorse reported unauthorized access to company systems and corporate data on October 27, 2026. CEO Martin Frývaldský called it “a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and for everyone affected.” The public confirmation does not quantify the incident or identify the affected systems.

In practical terms, “hackers gained access” establishes that an unauthorized party entered parts of Warhorse’s corporate environment. It does not establish that game builds, source code, employee records, customer information or financial systems were stolen. Those details remain unconfirmed.

What is still unknown about the attack?

As of the studio’s October 27 update, Warhorse has not publicly disclosed:

  • the initial attack vector, such as phishing, stolen credentials or an exploited vulnerability;
  • whether files were copied, encrypted, deleted or merely viewed;
  • whether the incident involved ransomware, an extortion demand or a data-leak threat;
  • which systems, projects or corporate records were accessed;
  • whether personal information belonging to employees, contractors or other individuals was exposed;
  • who was responsible;
  • how long access lasted, whether systems went offline, or whether production was interrupted; or
  • any ransom amount, recovery cost, affected-record count or financial loss.

Those omissions matter. A confirmed intrusion can eventually prove to be limited, or it can lead to a broader disclosure after forensic work. Until Warhorse provides technical or regulatory details, it is not accurate to describe the event as a ransomware attack or a confirmed leak.

Will the cyberattack delay the Lord of the Rings game?

There is no verified public evidence that the Middle-earth RPG has been delayed. Warhorse has not announced a release date for that project, and its incident update did not state that development stopped or that schedules changed.

Warhorse publicly announced an “open world Middle-earth RPG” on May 20, 2026. The same announcement also confirmed a new Kingdom Come adventure. Reuters reported that both projects were being developed by Embracer-owned Warhorse. Because neither game had a published launch timetable in the available statements, a delay cannot be measured or inferred from the cyberattack confirmation alone.

Is the new Kingdom Come game cancelled?

No. Nothing in Warhorse’s public incident statement says that the new Kingdom Come adventure has been cancelled. The project was announced in May and remains the latest publicly confirmed status.

The incident also should not be confused with the performance of the released sequel. Reuters, citing Embracer Group’s third-quarter report, said Kingdom Come: Deliverance II sold more than 5 million copies in its first year. That sales figure describes the game’s commercial performance; it does not reveal whether its development or player data was involved in the intrusion.

How does the timeline fit together?

Date Publicly reported development
March 31, 2026 Insider Gaming described Warhorse’s connection to a new Lord of the Rings game as an industry claim and explicitly treated it as speculation.
May 20, 2026 Warhorse announced an open-world Middle-earth RPG and a new Kingdom Come adventure.
May 20, 2026 Reuters reported that Embracer-owned Warhorse was developing both projects.
October 27, 2026 Warhorse confirmed unauthorized access to company systems and corporate data. No production-impact update was included.

What should players and fans assume right now?

Players should treat the incident as a corporate-security matter with an unresolved scope. The public statement does not say that game installations, console accounts, storefront accounts or player saves were compromised. It also does not say that either announced project was cancelled.

Fans should rely on future statements from Warhorse or its parent company rather than social-media claims about leaked builds, attackers or ransom demands. A screenshot, alleged file listing or anonymous attribution would not by itself establish that the material came from Warhorse or that it was obtained in this incident.

What information would clarify the situation?

A meaningful follow-up would identify the affected environment, the approximate discovery date, whether data was exfiltrated, and whether any personal information requires notification. Warhorse could also state whether production systems were isolated, whether outside incident-response specialists were engaged, and whether release plans changed. None of those details has been published in the confirmation currently available.

Until such information appears, the defensible conclusion is narrow: Warhorse says an unauthorized party accessed company systems and corporate data, and the studio considers the matter serious. The attack method, scope, attribution and effect on its games remain open questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Could this affect players’ Steam, PlayStation or Xbox accounts?

Warhorse’s statement refers to company systems and corporate data, not platform accounts. There is no public indication that Steam, PlayStation Network or Xbox accounts were involved, but the studio has not published a full systems inventory.

Has Warhorse said when the intrusion began or ended?

No start date, end date or dwell time has been disclosed. Without that chronology, outsiders cannot reliably determine which backups, builds or records might fall within the incident.

Why are claims about a ransom or leaked files premature?

The confirmation does not mention encryption, extortion, a ransom demand or published files. Those claims would require a direct Warhorse statement or independently verified evidence tying specific material to the intrusion.

Where can fans check for a schedule change?

The safest source is Warhorse’s own announcements and later statements from Embracer. The May announcements did not include launch dates, so there is no published deadline against which fans can measure a delay.
