The Lion’s Crest is a bonus quest DLC treasure hunt in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. After reaching open-world access, speak with Scribe Gaibl in Troskowitz, bring a shovel, and follow five caches through Trosky to earn Brunswick’s armor, weapons, and horse caparison. The base game is required, and the add-on must be installed.
What you need to start The Lion’s Crest
The Lion’s Crest is separate bonus-quest DLC, not the main quest “The Lion’s Den.” You need Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and the installed add-on. PLAION’s official support instructions say the quest becomes available after the introductory quests, once you have open-world access. They identify “Laboratores” as the last introductory quest; walkthroughs describe the timing around “Wedding Crashers.” Use open-world access as the practical checkpoint, then check Gaibl.

The Expansion Pass does not include The Lion’s Crest, according to KCD2.org’s guide. Coordinates alone will not make the quest gear appear if the DLC is not installed.
Where does the quest start?
Find Scribe Gaibl in Troskowitz, near Trosky Castle, and speak with him. The quest is also known as the Brunswick quest. If he has no relevant dialogue, verify that the DLC is downloaded and enabled for the account playing the base game.

Bring a shovel
Carry a shovel or spade before heading out. You can buy one from a trader or take one from the cemetery, according to PowerPyx’s walkthrough. The opening cache requires digging; simply finding the shrine is not enough.
Where is the first treasure? Solve the riddle
The opening riddle leads to Chapel in the Rocks, in the forest north of Trosky Castle. The riddle’s “crone and maiden” refer to the castle’s two towers, “true midnight” indicates north, and the “two guards of stone” point to the gap in the rocks, as interpreted in the updated KCD2.org route guide.
- Travel north of Trosky Castle into the forest and locate Chapel in the Rocks.
- At the shrine, move the cross aside.
- Use the shovel to dig, then loot the chest fully. Take Maps I and II.
Praying at the shrine alone does not open the cache.
The Lion’s Crest five-cache route
Follow the caches in sequence. Each location has a specific container to loot; reaching a landmark is not enough. Collect the maps as you go, since a missing map from a previous cache can make the next step confusing.

- Game Title: Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection for PS2
- Age Classification: ESRB E
- Content Description: Mild Suggestive Themes
- Chapel in the Rocks, north of Trosky Castle: Move the cross and dig at the shrine. Loot the chest and take Maps I and II.
- Wolf hunting spot, north of Tachov: Reach the spot and deal with or evade the wolves. Loot the sack between two straight trees to obtain Map III. The route and container are described by PowerPyx and KCD2.org.
- Crosses in the rocks, west of Vidlak Pond: Follow the fallen trunk route and open the chest below the cross. Take Map IV.
- North of Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn: Loot the shrine, then turn around and search the nearby bag by the skeleton hanging from a tree.
- Treasure Hunters’ Camp, between Bozhena’s hut and Nomads’ Camp: Clear the camp or move through stealthily, then dig at the cairn marked with a wooden cross.
The latter three locations and the cache sequence are detailed in the KCD2.org guide. At each stop, interact with the actual chest, sack, or bag and confirm you have taken its contents.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can a weak Henry finish the route?
You can start the treasure hunt once it is available, but the route includes wolves and a camp of hostile treasure hunters. If Henry is under-equipped, do the Chapel in the Rocks cache first and return to the more dangerous locations later. That is a pacing choice, not a quest lock or expiration rule.
- Go early: You can pursue the armor rewards sooner, but may face tougher fights with an underdeveloped character.
- Return later: Better preparation can make the wolf encounter and camp easier, at the cost of delaying the remaining caches.
- Use stealth at the camp: It can avoid a direct fight, but carries greater crime risk than clearing the camp openly.
What The Lion’s Crest rewards
PLAION’s official reward list includes Brunswick’s plate sleeves, bascinet, chainmail coif, brigandine, plate leg armor, gauntlets, horse caparison, poleaxe, and dagger. PowerPyx also reports 11 Groschen, Cheap Wine, and a Weak Marigold decoction as additional loot; those smaller items are listed by that walkthrough, not by PLAION’s support page.
Quick Recap
Why Gaibl, a cache, or a quest marker may be missing
- Gaibl has no quest dialogue or marker: Confirm that The Lion’s Crest is owned and installed on the account that has the base game. Restart after enabling it, reach open-world access, and speak to Gaibl again.
- The first shrine seems inactive: Move the cross and dig with a shovel. Visiting or praying at the shrine will not complete the interaction.
- A cache appears empty: Check the exact container for an interaction prompt, and confirm you looted the previous cache and took its map. KCD2.org notes that players have reported an interaction-prompt workaround; it is a community-reported fix, not an official patch guarantee.
- The next location does not make sense: Revisit the prior cache and inspect its chest, sack, or bag for the map. The hunt depends on collecting Maps I–IV along the route.
