After the council, optional objectives can reduce the guards Henry faces later; during the assault, a polearm is useful for knocking down ladders.

Quest facts and level requirement
The Italian Job is a main story quest set in Kuttenberg. It opens with Godwin impersonating a cardinal, then switches back to Henry for the heist and the defense of the Italian Court. A third-party quest database, GameMaps, lists level 24 and 25 objectives, but no official source here confirms level 24 as a hard progression gate. Treat it as database guidance, not a guaranteed requirement: GameMaps’ quest listing.

How to protect the True Cardinal achievement opportunity
Walkthroughs describe True Cardinal as missable and recommend a focused council sequence. These are third-party guide instructions, not official achievement documentation. For the safer attempt, avoid experimenting with optional dialogue during this section.
- At the opening scene: choose “Continue formally,” then “The Pope has not reached a decision.”
- Before the council: drink from the wine keg on the left so Godwin remains drunk.
- Hear the parties: speak to the council members using the focused responses below. Avoid disclosing anything you bought from street vendors, avoid unnecessary questions, and do not lose reputation.
- Close promptly: give the closing speech when prompted and do not prolong the discussion with extra replies.
Suggested council responses
- Father Anthony: ask about the Brotherhood’s demands, acknowledge that you understand, then leave.
- Albich of Uniczow: choose “Remind me,” keep quiet, ask what he thinks about the dispute, then leave.
- Abbot Jan III: ask about the monastery’s demands, acknowledge that you understand, then leave.
- Janosh Usher: begin the closing speech, say Albich is right or support Sedletz, then calm the parties.
For the approach to the council, Gamer Guides recommends walking through the courtyard, skipping casual quick replies, and speaking carefully to guard commander Giuseppe Cabrini. Use this sequence: “Cordial greeting in Italian,” “Why did you stay here?”, “How many guards are under your command?”, and “How is life here?” Then leave and enter the council. PowerPyx gives the same topics but reverses the order of the questions about life and staying. If you are prioritizing the achievement, follow one guide’s sequence consistently rather than adding improvised replies. Optional purchase and council objectives
Street vendors offer goods before the council. The St. Barbara figurine is optional: guides say it may help with the church dispute, but it is not required for the achievement route described above. Do not mention a street purchase during the council on a True Cardinal attempt.
Optional council actions are also worth considering if you want an easier later encounter. Gamer Guides says completing the available side objectives reduces the number of guards Henry must face. That benefit is separate from keeping Godwin’s council conversation focused; prioritize the achievement-safe responses if the two goals conflict.
Return to Henry and secure the West Gate
After the council, the quest returns to Henry. Review the available tasks, then go to the West Gate. The guides describe both stealth and combat as viable approaches. Gamer Guides recommends using the elevated route and dealing with guards as they separate. Choose the method that suits your character and equipment; the walkthrough evidence does not establish one as mandatory.
Find Adder and open the cellar-to-crypt route
- Once the gate is secured, speak with Hans by the well.
- Go to the kitchen and find Adder.
- Gamer Guides describes a nonviolent dialogue resolution with Giuseppe using calming responses and Brabant’s phrases.
- Follow the party into the cellar and inspect the northwestern wall near Hans to reveal the connection between the cellar and crypt.
Free the lords and prepare the defense
Continue to the guarded room and free the lords. Gamer Guides describes a dialogue route with Csaba as an alternative to fighting. Once the Italian Court is under your control, loot before speaking with Zizka on the walls; the guide specifically points to books and armory equipment, including a polearm.

Defend the Italian Court and reach Ruthard Palace
During the assault, use a polearm to push down ladders. Gamer Guides recommends letting allies engage attackers and supporting them, then defending the outer bailey before following the escape route through the tunnel. Speaking with Hans in the side passage is optional.
At Ruthard Palace, Brabant’s men attack. Let allies engage first and support them, including against the final attackers on the stairs. When the fight ends, the quest concludes and the next main quest begins.
