The most useful potions in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II solve different problems: Cockerel restores energy, Quickfinger helps with theft and crafting checks, and Saviour Schnapps lets you save. This editorial ranking weighs their practical uses, not an official developer order; a stealth, combat, or exploration build may rank them differently.
How to read this ranking
Potion effects can vary by quality: weak, regular (also called normal), strong, and Henry’s quality. The descriptions below avoid treating a quality-dependent bonus as universal. Henry’s quality requires the Alchemy level 16 skill Secret of Secrets, according to PowerPyx’s alchemy guide. You can brew a potion before learning its recipe; the recipe is learned the first time you brew it, the same guide notes.

The ordering follows the editorial ranking in MySpaceGuide’s February 10, 2025 video; it is not an official ranking. The available references do not establish whether later game updates changed potion effects, so treat these as guide-listed uses rather than a claim about the latest patch.
The 10 best potions, ranked
1. Cockerel
Best for: keeping Henry going when sleep is unavailable or inconvenient. Cockerel restores energy, making it useful when you need to continue travelling or handling tasks instead of stopping to rest. Its value is practical rather than combat-specific: it addresses energy, not health or stamina.
#1 Best Overall
2. Quickfinger
Best for: theft and crafting-related checks. Quickfinger raises Craftsmanship and Thievery, so it is a focused choice when an upcoming task depends on either skill. It is less broadly useful when you do not expect those checks.
3. Embrocation
Best for: movement. Embrocation raises Agility; stronger versions also reduce the stamina spent sprinting. That added benefit makes quality especially relevant if you want to cover ground while spending less stamina on a sprint.
4. Buck’s Blood
Best for: increasing stamina. It complements Embrocation, but the two solve different problems: Buck’s Blood raises stamina, while Embrocation’s stronger-quality benefit reduces the stamina cost of sprinting. Choose based on whether you need more stamina or want sprinting to consume less.
Rank #2
- Live life through the eyes and actions of Henry, a young man on a quest to avenge his murdered parents. His story – illustrated with over five hours of stunning cinematics – takes him from aspiring warrior to rebel, crossing paths with a charismatic cast of characters and an unforgettable set of adventures, as he goes up against the King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox and his fearsome allies.
- Your actions shape Henry’s destiny and how the world will react to him. Customize freely his appearance, skills and equipment while taking a moral stance on the events around you. Travel round the land engaging in unique activities, such as blacksmithing and archery, to truly immerse yourself in this vibrant region of Europe that will remember your actions, forever.
- This stunningly authentic rendition of 15th Century Bohemia allows you to experience this fascinating setting like never before. Get lost in a sprawling city, engage with peasants and talk with nobles while exploring a vast and rich countryside with taverns, bath houses, castles and more.
- Feel the clash of steel and visceral combat as you engage in thrilling real-time battles. There’s a range of authentic weapons and combat styles to suit every player. On foot, horse or by stealth, you can specialise in elegant sword mastery, brutal blunt weapons or deadly ranged attacks.
5. Artemisia
Best for: situations where a Strength boost matters. Artemisia raises Strength, making it a situational option for tasks or encounters where that attribute is useful. Its appeal depends on what you are about to do, rather than providing the general recovery of an energy or health potion.
6. Nighthawk
Best for: travelling and exploring in darkness. Nighthawk improves vision at night; stronger qualities also slow energy loss. The added energy benefit is quality-dependent, but the vision improvement is the core reason to carry it for nighttime activity.
7. Aqua Vitalis
Best for: surviving danger. Aqua Vitalis reduces health loss and slows bleeding, offering protection rather than restoring health after damage. It is most relevant when you expect a dangerous encounter and want to reduce the consequences of getting hurt.
Rank #3
- Experience the events with the eyes of Heinrich, a young man who moves to avenge the murder of his parents
- The authentic rendition of the 15th-century bohemiah gives you the opportunity to experience this fascinating environment like never before
- Customize Heinrich's appearance, skills and equipment to your liking
- The Gold Edition includes the game, the "Expansion Pass" DLC, bonus quest "Lion Crests" DLC and the DLC "Equipment of the Brave Hunter"
8. Painkiller Brew
Best for: managing injuries and low-health stamina penalties. Painkiller Brew suppresses injury effects and reduces how much low health lowers maximum stamina. It does not serve the same role as a potion that restores health, but can help when injuries or reduced stamina are limiting you.

9. Marigold Decoction
Best for: gradual health recovery. Marigold Decoction restores health over time, so it is not an instant full heal. Plan around the gradual effect rather than relying on it to immediately undo damage during a crisis.
10. Saviour Schnapps
Best for: saving your game. Its defining strategic use is the save function. Stronger quality also restores health and temporarily raises Strength, Vitality, and Agility, but those benefits are quality-dependent; the save remains the reason this potion stands apart from the rest.

The references establish these effects, but do not provide a consistent comparison of brew effort, ingredient scarcity, or carrying tradeoffs across all ten. Choose based on the next challenge and the effect you need rather than assuming one potion is always the most efficient to prepare or carry.
What quality and brewing change
The four listed quality tiers—weak, regular, strong, and Henry’s quality—mean an effect can become more valuable at a higher tier. The especially clear additional benefits in this list are reduced sprint stamina cost for stronger Embrocation, slower energy loss for stronger Nighthawk, and the extra recovery and attribute boosts on strong Saviour Schnapps. Do not assume those bonuses apply to every quality.
PowerPyx’s guide, published February 6, 2025, says you can brew potions without first learning their recipes and learn each recipe after the first brew. It also identifies Alchemy level 16 skill Secret of Secrets as the requirement for Henry’s quality: PowerPyx: all alchemy recipes. Ingredient and effect references are also available in the community-maintained potion wiki and PCGamesN’s potion guide.
