Individual outlets illustrate the range of enthusiasm: PC Gamer scored it 90/100, while IGN, GameSpot and Shacknews each gave it 9/10 in PC Gamer’s launch roundup. GamesRadar+ scored it 4/5. At the less enthusiastic end, VideoGamer gave it 7/10 and Eurogamer 3/5. These scores point to a real difference in how critics weigh its depth and immersion against its pace and demands, not a split over whether it is competently made.
What do critics praise most?
A distinctive historical world
Set in Bohemia in 1403 amid the conflict between Wenceslas of Bohemia and his brother Sigismund, the game continues the story of Henry and his companion Hans Capon. PC Gamer reviewer Joshua Wolens highlights the unusual historical setting, intricate simulated world and political plot. The setting is specific rather than a generic fantasy medieval backdrop, and that specificity helps give the quests and world their character.

- Live life through the eyes and actions of Henry, a young man on a quest to avenge his murdered parents. His story – illustrated with over five hours of stunning cinematics – takes him from aspiring warrior to rebel, crossing paths with a charismatic cast of characters and an unforgettable set of adventures, as he goes up against the King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox and his fearsome allies.
- Your actions shape Henry’s destiny and how the world will react to him. Customize freely his appearance, skills and equipment while taking a moral stance on the events around you. Travel round the land engaging in unique activities, such as blacksmithing and archery, to truly immerse yourself in this vibrant region of Europe that will remember your actions, forever.
- This stunningly authentic rendition of 15th Century Bohemia allows you to experience this fascinating setting like never before. Get lost in a sprawling city, engage with peasants and talk with nobles while exploring a vast and rich countryside with taverns, bath houses, castles and more.
- Feel the clash of steel and visceral combat as you engage in thrilling real-time battles. There’s a range of authentic weapons and combat styles to suit every player. On foot, horse or by stealth, you can specialise in elegant sword mastery, brutal blunt weapons or deadly ranged attacks.
Systems, quests and characters that reinforce one another
The strongest praise centers on the way the world’s systems and role-playing, quests and character relationships work together to make the setting feel convincing. Wolens singled out Henry and Capon’s relationship and called the game “a big, bold, unutterably weird thing, and it’s a new RPG classic.” His review also acknowledges rough edges. This is not praise for a frictionless adventure; for fans, learning how its interlocking systems work is part of the pleasure.
Why are some reviews more reserved?
The same deliberate design that draws some players in can make progress feel slow or unnecessarily demanding to others. Wolens notes that choices that seem consequential may not always lead to the lasting character consequences players expect. GamesHub’s 50/100 review describes the experience as a slog and argues that the sandbox is difficult to reach through the game’s demands.
That disagreement matters more to a buying decision than the high aggregate alone. A player who wants immediate action, quick progression or a low-friction introduction may find the opening and dense systems frustrating. Someone who enjoys taking time to explore a historical setting, role-play and learn complicated mechanics is more likely to appreciate what the game asks of them. Critics differ in how much friction they consider worthwhile.
Is Kingdom Come: Deliverance II too slow or difficult?
There is no single answer for every player: the reviews suggest that pace and system complexity are central to the experience, not incidental hurdles. The favorable reviews treat depth and immersion as strengths; less enthusiastic reviews emphasize how those demands can obstruct access to the world and its sandbox. If you prefer games that explain themselves quickly and keep the action moving, the critical reservations are especially relevant. If you enjoy a deliberate role-playing game that expects patience, the same qualities may be a draw.

Platforms, release date and performance context
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was released on February 4, 2025, and is listed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. PC Gamer marked the game “Playable” on Steam Deck in its review, but that is reviewer-specific context rather than a guarantee of current compatibility across updates or configurations.
PC Gamer’s hardware team reported that the CryEngine game could strain GPUs at maximum settings and high resolutions, while scaling well and remaining stable in its launch testing; the writer reported no crashes during that test. That is dated testing, not a performance promise for every PC. Results vary by hardware, platform, settings and patches. Anyone choosing a platform based on performance should consult current, platform-specific testing rather than assume the launch report applies to their setup.
