Nintendo Life reported that the physical collection is a Game-Key Card edition. That means the card is a physical key, not a cartridge holding the full games.
What is coming to Switch 2?
Square Enix’s official collection page lists KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] for Nintendo Switch 2 in both digital and physical formats. The bundle includes:

Nintendo’s U.S. product listing gives October 8, 2026 as the release date for the separately listed KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC). It lists that product’s download size as 46.4 GB. That is not a confirmed size for the complete collection, and the listing is specific to the U.S. storefront.

Nintendo Life reported on June 23, 2026 that the Switch 2 physical collection would use a Game-Key Card, with an October 8 arrival date. The publisher’s page confirms a physical edition, but does not itself identify its card format; the Game-Key Card detail is therefore based on that report.

- KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] Amazon Exclusive Edition includes a double-sided poster.
- A value packed bundle featuring three collections: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC).
- This product is also included in other bundle sets. Please ensure you do not purchase the same content more than once.
- Platform-exclusive Keyblade "Long Night" included with purchase!
- GAME-KEY CARD. 128 GB – Full game download via internet required.
A Game-Key Card is a physical item, but it does not contain the full game data. Nintendo explains that it holds a key used to download the software to the console’s internal storage or a microSD Express card. An internet connection is required for the download and first launch. Once the game is installed, it can be played offline, but the card must remain inserted.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described the card as a key to activate software, rather than a medium containing the full game data. In Nintendo’s 2025 shareholder Q&A, he said the format was introduced in part to accommodate larger game data sizes on Switch 2. The exchange also records a shareholder describing online criticism of physical releases that do not contain their game data. That is evidence of a concern some people have raised, not proof that all fans share it.

What does the format mean for buyers?
| Consideration | Physical Game-Key Card | Digital edition |
|---|---|---|
| How the game arrives | The reported collection edition requires a download; Nintendo says Game-Key Cards provide a key, not the full game data. | Downloaded directly. Square Enix lists a digital Switch 2 edition. |
| Physical item | A card to keep and insert to play, according to Nintendo’s general Game-Key Card guidance and Nintendo Life’s report about this collection. | No physical card is included. |
| Internet and storage | Internet is needed for the download and first launch; storage is needed on the console or a microSD Express card. Offline play is possible after installation with the card inserted. | The game must be downloaded and stored on the console or compatible storage. The cited Nintendo page lists 46.4 GB for KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) only, not the entire collection. |
| Bundle contents | Both listed formats are for the collection of three releases: HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and III + Re Mind. | |
The practical choice is whether having a physical card matters enough to you when the game data still has to be downloaded. Before buying, also compare the bundle’s three included releases with the Kingdom Hearts games you already own.

What remains unconfirmed?
- The sources cited here do not establish the collection’s total download size, a retail price, or current stock by region.
- The Nintendo U.S. listing’s 46.4 GB figure applies only to KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC), not the bundle.
- The cited sources do not say what would happen to access after any future server shutdown, so the Game-Key Card format alone cannot answer that question.
- The headline’s claim about multiple insiders is not independently confirmed by the sources cited here; the official listings establish the Switch 2 release, while Nintendo Life’s report supports the physical-format detail.
