Sora is the central hero of Kingdom Hearts: a young boy chosen by the mysterious Keyblade who sets out to find his friends and return home. His cheerful, justice-minded personality and loyalty to Riku and Kairi drive his early adventure; later, he travels with Donald Duck and Goofy to protect friends and worlds.
Who is Sora in Kingdom Hearts?
Sora is the protagonist described in the official Kingdom Hearts manuals. He begins as a boy from Destiny Islands whose life changes when he is separated from his friends. The Keyblade chooses him, and his journey becomes a search for Riku and Kairi as well as a way back home.

Why does Sora have a Keyblade?
The official manuals describe the Keyblade as a mysterious weapon and say Sora is chosen by it. The earlier story description in the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 manual calls him the Keyblade master, after he saved the world at the cost of being separated from his closest friends. Those descriptions establish his connection to the weapon, but they do not explain every rule of Keyblade lore across the series.

The Kingdom Hearts 2.5 manual describes Sora as cheerful and “a little naive,” with an extraordinary sense of justice. Its character entry says his best friend Riku has disappeared into darkness, while Kairi remains in their homeland, Destiny Islands. The Kingdom Hearts 1.5 manual similarly describes his sense of justice as uncanny and emphasizes that he is trying to find his friends and return home with them. These are official manual descriptions, not quotations attributed to a named character or creator.

How old is Sora?
The age depends on the installment and story point described by the manual. The Kingdom Hearts 1.5 manual identifies Sora as 14 in its earlier story context; the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 manual identifies him as 15. These ages refer to their respective descriptions, rather than contradicting each other.
What role does Sora play in the wider series?
Sora’s personal search grows into adventures alongside Donald Duck and Goofy. Square Enix describes its “Dark Seeker Saga” as following Sora, Donald, Goofy, and other Disney and Pixar characters through events from the original game to Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. In Square Enix’s 2013 announcement for Kingdom Hearts III, Sora, Donald, and Goofy visit Disney worlds in search of the “Key to Return Hearts,” while Sora and his friends seek seven guardians of light against darkness. Those details describe that game’s setup, not every installment’s plot.
