Siliconera reported the announcement on September 21, 2010. The game paired optional stereoscopic 3D with online multiplayer and a challenge mode that let players earn parts for tuning their cars.
What Konami announced
Siliconera’s September 21, 2010 report described Road Fighters as an arcade racing game with stereoscopic 3D. The report says players could switch between 3D and regular 2D play using a button on the machine. It also mentions a second 3D lens for spectators.
The same report says the game supported online multiplayer, allowing players to compete with people at other arcades, and included Road Fighter Challenge, where players could earn car parts. It also reports compatibility with Konami’s Paseli payment service. These features are reported details, not results from an independent test.
How challenge mode and car tuning worked
A Highway Games gameplay description, added August 15, 2013, provides more detail on the challenge mode: winning races awarded tune-up points that players could spend to improve car performance. The description also says the footage shows 2D play with an in-game switch to 3D.

Road Fighters is not the 1984 Road Fighter
The name matters: Siliconera distinguishes Road Fighters (with an “s”) from Konami’s 1984 arcade game Road Fighter. Its report says the 2010 title “appears to be unrelated” to the older game’s later lineage. That is the report’s characterization; the available evidence does not establish a broader franchise connection.
Can you play Road Fighters 3D now?
The sources describe an arcade machine, but do not establish that cabinets are operating today, or verify a home release for console or PC. Starrcade’s arcade listing is one possible lead for finding the title, not confirmation that its machine is currently working. Contact a venue to check availability and condition before making a trip.

The available reports also do not establish compatible retail glasses or parts, so they are not enough to recommend accessories for playing the game at home.

A TechBloat page published in May 2026 uses a headline presenting Road Fighters as a fresh reveal. That framing conflicts with the contemporaneous 2010 announcement reported by Siliconera; the available evidence does not support a new Konami announcement in 2026.
