Krafton announced on August 12, 2024, that it would acquire Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property. The announcement named Hi-Fi Rush as the IP included; contemporary reporting said Tango’s other major franchises, The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, remained with Microsoft. Krafton described continued development and future projects as intentions, not confirmed releases. The deal price was not disclosed.
What Krafton announced
Krafton’s August 12, 2024 announcement said the company would acquire Tango Gameworks and the rights to Hi-Fi Rush, with Xbox and ZeniMax cooperating on the transition. Famitsu’s reproduction of the announcement said Krafton would proceed with the studio’s incorporation and staff transition. The announcement date should not be mistaken for a separately established closing or effective date. Famitsu’s account of Krafton’s announcement gives the stated scope.
Krafton characterized the move as an investment in Japan and part of its global expansion. Its September 2024 investor presentation called Tango its “First Game Studio Investment in Japan.” That is Krafton’s own description, not an independent market statistic. Krafton’s 2Q24 investor presentation provides that framing.
Which games and rights were included?
Hi-Fi Rush
The announcement explicitly included the Hi-Fi Rush IP. Krafton said it intended to support continued development of the IP and explore future projects. That statement records the company’s plan at the time; it does not confirm a sequel, a release schedule, or that every former Tango employee would continue working on the series. PC Gamer’s report reproduced Krafton’s stated intention to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax on transition and continuity.

The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo
Krafton’s announcement named The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, and Ghostwire: Tokyo as existing catalog titles whose availability would not be affected. That is a statement about availability, not a complete explanation of legal ownership or contractual rights. Game World Observer reported that these franchises remained with Microsoft; the announcement does not spell out every underlying right. Game World Observer’s contemporaneous report distinguishes the franchises from the acquired Hi-Fi Rush IP.
