• A Windows XP system inventory identifies a 32-bit English word breaker in C:WindowsSystem32.
• SharePoint Portal Server 2003 used LangWrbk.dll in its Bin directory.

First, identify the owner

Before repairing anything, find out which program is requesting the file.

Check the full path in the error

Look for a path containing terms such as:

Microsoft states that SQL Server repair can replace missing or corrupt files, registry keys, and invalid configuration values. The documented command-line form is:

setup.exe /q /ACTION=Repair /INSTANCENAME=<instancename>

Replace <instancename> with the actual SQL Server instance name. Do not use a random installer from a different SQL Server generation.

After repair, install the matching service pack or update that belongs to the same product generation. SQL Server 2005 and SharePoint Portal Server 2003 are legacy, unsupported products, so use their existing licensed media only in a controlled environment rather than treating them as current downloads.

Repair or reinstall SharePoint

If the path contains SharePoint Portal ServerBin:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Select Programs and Features.
3. Select the matching SharePoint or related Microsoft product.

2. Type rstrui.exe.
3. Press Enter.
4. Select a restore point from before the error began.
5. Confirm the restore.
6. Restart and test the affected program.

Fix 4: Check the file’s architecture and dependencies

A “not designed to run on Windows” message commonly indicates corruption, an incompatible build, or the wrong architecture.

SQL Server 2005, for example, shipped separate x86 and x64 copies of the file, with different versions and sizes. A 32-bit Windows XP copy is not interchangeable with a SQL Server copy, and an x64 product may require a different binary from an x86 product.

If a surviving copy exists, inspect it before replacing anything. In PowerShell, use:

Fix 5: Remove an orphaned startup reference
